Not bad sound is okay but u need to work on those lip muscles and figurings it's the biggest mistakes here. Im in eighth grade n I don't take private lessons but I'm guessing u do because everything else is good
hey u shud try and fix the way you hold the horn a bit. it helps if u actually hold it at 45 degrees so u can play the higher notes easier. trust me, i always have a hard time playing high notes if i have bad pisition
Cheap horn from ebay ($100) and I posted it here so grandma could see what I did with my xmas money. I'm amused that so many strangers watch the thing and give advice.
I also started playing with transposing the Trumpet (Bb) and F-Horn (F) music (otherwise I have to buy too much stuff). Not as hard as I'd expected.
Re: 1 month, I played trumpet (not great) in the school band, so I have played other brass instruments. I was kind of surprised how much harder a French horn is though, a trumpet doesn't want to wander so much. It was also very annoying because I didn't really know if it was an F horn or Bb. (It's Bb with an A stop), so I didn't know what fingering charts to use. (I suppose I could've asked an instructor, but one wasn't convenient).
amazing for a month. XD what I can suggest is to correct your hand position, and possibly hold it differently. It's common to want to change the hand position when you start, but you do get used to it. Trust me. All except the sweatiness under stage lights, that's just ew.
Hey I also play the French horn for three years and I made All-State and All-Distirict which is a HIGH honor....I would suggest to keep your hand a little out of the bell and again like others have said keep a nataual tone...your doing GREAT!!!!!! ps could I have the notes for that? I would love that!
I play the french horn also and when you slurred a bit on your notes it was a really common mistake you just have to keep your omacher firmly in the place you wnt it to be sorry this is such a long comment I love to give comments by talking and that in writing is very long!
What logloopy means is your are muffling your sound. I suggest supporting the horn in the right hand with your knuckles at a 2 o clock angle. Also, go for a more natural breath. From the looks of it you aren't breathing at all. Take in some air. And when I say natural breath I mean breath down to your gut like a new born does. This opens up the wind pipe allowing more air flow. This will give you a better tone and help endurance after a while.
In regards to the hand position, I say do a 2 o clock angle because you are playing off the knee. And the reason to play with your knuckles against the bell is so your hand doesn't close off the bell making the pitch too flat and the sound muffled. You have to consider horns are generally made 25 cents sharp to accommodate the hand (which allows a better more mellow sound). The hand will nullify that 25 cent sharpness however you do not want to completely close the bell to a half stop.
this is your first month. if you love it you will get better and better as time goes by. i know it. it happened to me. i play too and i think you are amazing for a 1 monther. good job getting those high f's and low notes. keep practicing, we need more f horn players in this world. trust me.
One thing though. I know it's really hard (I do it too and I'm going on my fourth year playing) but try not to crack the notes so much. Totally expected of a beginner, but just work on that.
Horns are the best. Well, horns and percussion obviously. What led you to playing the horn?
People are saying things like "must be easier for grown ups" etc.
I'm not a grown up, but this is clearly a big lie. Apparently it's harder to learn things as you get older. It's just that older people work harder because they want to do it blah blah.
Shut the fuck up, all of you saying "Okay, for a first month."
This is excellent. Jesus Christ. What do you expect? The man probably works and has a family. He doesn't have much time at all to practice the horn. I sounded horrible at a month.
I applaud you for your progress. You will be very great if you continue practicing as you have.
wow you are pretty good for playing for just one month!! do you play any other instruments? this is a great song, i remember i played this back in middle school when i was a beginner but i dont think i sounded this good

if there is one comment about hand position i doubt he need 20 others. and i doubt he actually reads his comments anyway
lolafary 2 years ago
I read them sometimes 'cause they amuse me ;) And the playing position wasn't ideal (bench and piano to hold music).
