Christel, you are amazing. I have to say my first instinct was to say I preferred the 1st version. It's been on my personal playlist for a long time and I listen to it constantly. I love the way it sounds and I can hear it in my head when I'm not listening to the video. It is, by far, one of my all-time favorite videos. However, I do like the second version, as well. I think I will listen to both videos, but I will listen to the version that fits my mood at the time of listening.

I very much prefer the second version (May 28, 2008). After spending hours transcribing it and hours upon hours practicing it note per note, I performed it in church and got a standing ovation. I gave you full credit for the arrangement. I don't know how much time you put into working out your arrangements, but they're all top-notch.

The mic gets in the way of the 2nd version, and in the first to a lesser extent. The feeling is more developed and nuanced in the second version, very deep, but it's easier to immediately access in the first because it's more spare. The mic adds a fuzzyness overlay.

Can you do it without the mic and without the soundtrack? Or with live (minimalist) accompaniment? That way it's just you and the harp and your soul and the souls of all time.

Version 1 is, for my tastes, just a bit to "clean & simple". This is one of those songs that I just love when it's done so that is hurts. Like pouring hydrogen peroxide on an open wound, it should just hurt like hell yet at the same time purify. Version 2 comes closer to doing this for me. For me, the perfect version of this song should leave me sobbing in a heap on the floor and feeling somehow cleansed...if that makes any sense. Anyway, #2 has my vote. ☺

Sur l'interprétation, la dernière version s'écarte à mon sens plus de la ligne originale, c'est autre chose et très bien aussi.

Musicalement, je trouve le Manji plus "rond", plus "enrobé" mais je sais pas si on est sur des choses qu'on peut trop comparer (Seydel Silver en C versus Manji en B)

Verdict pour moi : la 1 de justesse mais bravo pour les 2.

I play the harmonica for a few years now, and sometimes I am just more into a song than other times. I have the idea that you were just more into the song at the 2scnd version. My girlfriend an me were almost crying halfway the song.., than in my opinion, you hit the right "buttons". Keep on posting your beautiful songs cause it makes the world a bit more beautiful for me.. Bonjour , j ' aime les 2 versions ,elles se conpletent trés bien ,et c'est une bonne idée de les avoir mises bout à bout .La sensibilité avec laquelle vous interprété la 1ere version fait bien resortir la tristesse de cette chansson ,mais dans la 2 eme version le son est plus proche de l'originale, la tristesse et plus franche, c'est plus direct . Le montage montre bien la différence entre les 2 tonalités, merci à bientôt

Hey Hun I loved them both but ya the first time round for me as it seamed slower, Hallelujah I believe should be played slow. also loved the lick at about 6m30s. But it's the same with me on my videos Mess Of Blues And Mess Of Blues Live I enjoy listing to my live version and not my other one but the other has had over 1000 views comped to my fav that's had less then 300 views. So my point is if you liked version 2 better then good for you girlfriend :) us fans loved them both the same. xx

It's a close call but I think I like this 2nd version a little better. I think there's a little more use of arpeggios and vibratos, which are definitely a strength of yours.

C'est un appel à proximité, mais je pense que j'aime cette 2ème version un peu mieux. Je pense qu'il ya un usage un peu plus d'arpèges et de vibratos, qui sont certainement une force de la vôtre.

Thanks for watching and giving your point of view...Personally I prefer the second version because yes my sound is better, it's a personal vision of this song, and the mood of the harmonica is exactly what the lyrics are saying....This is a very sad song

@Bluesharp72 Her skill is better on the second one, but i llike the first one too. The band I'm in is learning this song, I think I will try it on a C harp (6th position, I think) instead of the E harp, 2nd pos.
