what on EARTH are you people talking about?! he sang this song beautifully and he sang the correct words. perhaps you misunderstood what he was singing, but i listened to the video closely twice and he had the words right. also, this guy moved TO America FROM Britian...yeah, he has a British background, but he is in America now...there's nothing wrong with him taking up an amazing opportunity to sing the American National Anthem.

I hate the fact that people mention use "An A! contestant" as his claim to fame. The guy was MARIUS on the West End at the age of 21 and was INCREDIBLE at it. You can youtube him in that role under Tom Lucas.

If I wasn't SURE I could sing the correct lyrics, I wouldn't sing "God Save THE Queen" at Wembley; nor "O, Canada" at the Bell Centre; nor, for that matter, "Himno Nacional Mexicano" at the Azteca Stadium!

Don't get me wrong: I LOVE Tom (was honored to perform with him in L.A.; he IS a heck of a nice, funny and talented guy). I just thought it funny that almost everyone listening to the "Star Spangled Banner" (always at American sports events) knows the words to it.

I agree with everyone that it is a bit ironic that a Brit would be singing the National Anthem, but the fact that it was beautifully sung cancels all of that. He was wonderful and I think he should win American Idol!!! HANDS DOWN!!!

I'm not at all offended by this, but I do find it highly amusing... a Brit singing our national anthem... those "bombs bursting in air" and the "rockets red glare" were courtesy of the British military as they attempted to take control of Baltimore in the War of 1812. Having said that, I do like this fellow and think he sang it respectfully and beautifully. In fact, I'll take a Brit singing our national anthem this way over Roseanne Barr singing it the way she did! Well done...

This country is made up of immigrants, many who sing our anthem with pride to be a part of this country..a bit ironic to be sung by a brit? In some ways, yes..but when put into context of current US make-up, why not?
