i wanna get this straight, cause when i read that about five sixths of the world can't use the internet my first thought was "gosh! we don't even realise we've got so much more that so many others. i mean we don't think of a person with access to internet as rich, but we are.." is that the thought cause i kinda wonder...
This video was in part a reaction to the idealism and utopic attitudes people were/are having towards YouTube. As much as the internet has become a new international forum for dialogue, community and possibilities, I just thought it was worth remembering that it isn't accessible to all people and is another form of privilege.
Its a very good video but i think you just attached it to the "where do you tube from" video to boost your ratings, it has nothing to do with video your responding to
i don't actually want to "boost my ratings" but i do want people to consider this point, where you YouTube from does actually have alot to do with whether or not you have internet access.
I did my research online... you could look for yourself. (I am not so certain if any statistics are "accrate" but I do think these estimates do reflect a very real situation.
Where did you get that number for the internet users? It may very well be true, but it seems incredibly high. I have trouble believing that nearly 1 in 6 people on the planet have internet access.
how do you want people to get access? when only some keep all the wealth in the world just watch mtv or vh1 and you'll know who is keeping what is ours and what do they do with all that wealth? well some assholes buy 2000 dollar shoes, when some people survive with a dollar everyday, don't you think is a stupid fake world?
think of this; the wild animals, have you ever known of thousand of animals starving worlwide before the humans? No, right obviusly there may be some cases but not as it happens nowodays, so actually there was a real world before.
There is alot of inequality in the world, I believe this has alot to do with the globalist capitalist society that we live in. I do think there are ways we could change this though.
I've seen enough drama facilitated by the internet in just a close group of friends that I don't think I could believe that it could bring about world peace.
That strikes me as the latest variation of the great techno-myth: that technological advances necessarily creates moral advances, and that a sufficiently advanced technology will bring about a utopian society.
no that would cause more racism cuz theres lots of u childish kids who find saftey on the cpu and think its ok to be a racist on the net but in the real world u cant do it because of fear
I think it would, because people would be able to meet up and express themselves, and with in those people an initiative to fight for peace would arise, and people with the ability to annoy the governments of the world through internet would do so.
I think you're right. Some of my greatest friends I'll never see in real life. Thanks to the internet, it's possible to talk to people on the other side of the world instantaneously (not saying you'll necessarily understand what they're saying unless they know you speak the same language as they do).
That's 1,018,057,389 people escaping reality to watch viral videos & check their emails. At one time we all thought that television was going to change the world ... it did ... we now call it the idiot box.

I question whether these people are really racist (homophobic etc) but it isn't as obviously expressed in their day to day lives?

alot more than just 1 billion people man. if 5.7 billion people can't afford access to the internet, then we as a world....are in huge huge trouble!

I think that was my point.

just because 5,700,000,000 don't go on the net, doesn;t mean they can;t. maybe they don;t want to. doesn;t mean they are too poor.

How many people do you think have the option?
