can i keep a id shark in a 30-50 litre tank when its a baby like 2 inches long and then move it to a 96 litre tank whit 2 jack dempseys and then if it gets to big maby i could put it to my piranhas in a 250 litre tank couse if its big maby they wont eat hin? plz reply
@chrisDR0 appears to be a male and female. most females have coloring mostly around the gill plate while males have the color over most of their body.
iridesent sharks need at least a 500gallon tank at the minimum if smaller its organs will be squashed growth stunned and you will be stuck with a suffocating to death id shark!
i just inherited a iridescent shark too and i already have a jack dempsey and i was wondering if you ever had trouble with your jack getting too aggressive with your ID shark?
my jack dempsey is on a tank of his own because he was agressive to the other fish so they got moved into a new tank. For some reason mine is really shy and only comes out when the light is off. He spends most of his time in abit of wood hidden away. Wish he would swim around abit more :(
no cichlids range greatly. sheldwellers can stay under a mere two inches while others get giant. the jack dempseys do grow up to ten inches but not every cichlid gets ten inches
I just got a small id shark about 2 inches. I cant wait till it gets bigger. How long do you think it will take to grow to about 6-8 inhes?Whats the growth rate? Any answers will be greatly appreciated!
Sounds like "ich", a water parasite which can affect your fish; better clean up your water conditions and treat it. Use your favourite search engine and look up "aquarium ich". It isn't necessarily fatal to the fish, but they can die if it goes untreated for too long.
Eventually a 120g would probably be too small for two. Try searching online for some fish/aquarium forums, you can find more "professional" advice there!
I imagine opinions differ, but 120 gallons might be OK. Ideally you'd want something probably at least that large, just for a single one given they get to be pretty big.
i hav an outside pond wiht goldfishes but i want to add some id sharks in ther....do i hav to wrry abt the temperature?? i heard tht catfishes can live in almost all conditions
well it might work but how is the temperature we are talking about here in your pond? and is it always cold around your area? if so you may need to heat the pond up to atleast 74-76 degrees... =] so you can have your goldfishes and your ID sharks too =]
I also have an ID shark...well actually 5 of them, but only one is big. He is now about 14 inches...and he is with about 7 other fish in a 90 gall. By the way great tank!
I inherited it from a friend, it was already fairly large. You'll want to have at least a 90-gallon tank when yours grow, they're really not fish I'd recommend for your typical aquarium. Do a search for "iridescent shark", you may find some more info.
The iridescent was around a foot long, give or take. If you have three, make sure you've got a big tank - I had a 90 gallon there and that seemed hardly large enough just for the one!
Oh wow chweck out waht a moron i am keepign such a big creature in a small tank. Do you think it would stay in such a small area if it was in it'as natural habitat JERK OFF
I actually agree, I inherited the fish from a neglected tank with nearly-black water and no pump running and gave him a better home. Consider it the lesser of two evils.

the id shark can eat feeders?//////?????

@scottschiller
Ich does not turn a fish completely white. It looks like white spots(i would know, it destroyed a whole community aquarium I had.)

do you think a single id shark can live in a 120 gallon tank for its whole life or is that a temporary thing
shetbag11 4 years ago
I imagine opinions differ, but 120 gallons might be OK. Ideally you'd want something probably at least that large, just for a single one given they get to be pretty big.
scottschiller 4 years ago
120 can be temporary just for atleast a year or 2 then you need sometihng like a 180 then 240 then a 300 or just make an indoor pond for them beast..
