@cheapgeek1 yeah, kinda like a kerosene heater thats not burning properly. i use coleman fuel. i'd like to leave this bad boy @ my remote camp for heating my tarp shelter but the fumes are too much.
I just picked on of these up this weekend from Goodwill for $13. I just fired it up for the first time. It took quite awhile for the flames to die down but now it's just glowing and pumping out the heat. Unfortunately mine is missing the snuffer so I'll have to search around for one. I think I'm going to paint mine chrome for a little "bling" heating. :)
@utooboob - Chrome would be sweet! $13.00 is a good price.. I was surprised at how much the price DOESN'T drop on these things.. Paint that thing! I want to see it..
@cheapgeek1 I'm sad to report the chrome heater is not likely to become a reality. This heater puts off way too much stink to be useful to me. If I can't use it in my house with a window cracked I can't imagine using it in a van. It will either become an art piece or I'll re-sell it.
i just got one for 20$

You can put fuel on the wick from the top to get it lit until you find a gasket.

@utooboob That's too bad.. These things are supposed to use Coleman Campstove fuel, which is white gas. The stink is supposed to be minimal.
Wonder if someone filled yours with something else?

@cheapgeek1 The fuel chamber was dry when I purchased it and I used coleman fuel for my test burn. I'll be curious to see how your first run goes.

I haven't fired it up yet. It leaks around that rubber gasket.. I ordered one.
When it shows up, I'm going to light that thing off!
