Thanks. regarding the meat though, cutting the jugular will render the subject unconscious very quickly, due to lack of oxygen to the brain. Also, in the EU and the US they are stunned first. So while I have no love for Islam or it's traditions, I'm not convinced it's particularly more painful than other methods.

Kosher meat has basically the same rules. I've never been aware of people taking offense to that before, beyond people against the meat industry in general

It is not the pain, but the conditions i witnessed.

Animals with slit throats are thrown on the floor, where they urinate and defecate while dying.

Afterwards they are just sprinkled with a bit of water and processed.

It is just gross.

In Germany (where i live) slaughterhouses are almost sterile

and i am sure that any german would be as horrified as me after seeing such a messy facility.

That being said, i want "halal" and "kosher" meat to be clearly labeled, so i could avoid it.

Hmm...they are supposed to be hung off the ground so that the blood drains out properly. sounds like a poorly run facility, halal or no.

In the US, kosher meat is marked thusly, if people prefer to get it or avoid it.
