This guy fails, if his name is truly "Leeroy Jenkins" he dosent deserve that title, also, i also thought it was going to be sick with the actual leeroy jumping out or something :(.. fail
@Uber1337n00bz first off his name is Leroy Jenkins who had been performing since the 1970s. This is the actual Leroy Jenkins seeing as the one you are talking about came around in 2006. So, who deserves the title? This Leroy Jenkins does because he was one of the most important figures in jazz. You honestly think that some World of Warcraft video is better than this jazz genius? You have no clue what you are talking about.
@Uber1337n00bz no, just saying, don't say stuff like that about the real Leroy Jenkins, he contributed far more to this world than a WoW character will ever contribute to society. Did you even listen to the music? or did you see the name and just had to say something? No i am not mad, just have a little respect for Leroy Jenkins and his work.
@Uber1337n00bz if you didn't even listen to the music don't bother commenting because you obviously do not know what you are talking about, just stop man.
leroy jenkins was a beautiful soul. i was lucky enough to see him live in Chicago with the Revolutionary Ensemble back in the '70s. their intensity was breathtaking. spirits in the room...
this is kinda scary to listen to. ok just becus i said this plz dont throw rocks @ me. im trying to get into jazz and i found Leroy Jenkins by a random search. But I gotta admit this is not something i was expecting lol it sounds SUPER moden 20th century VERY eccentric and out of place. it feels like im listening to a background music to a horror movie LOL well i dont want to leave this video w/ this ignorant (but honest) comment. So plz enlighten me w/ ur knowledge about his style!!
I knew Leroy for 18 years of my life. As a close personal friend and an inspiration. He was one of the most beautiful people I ever had the pleasure of knowing.
Dissonant avant garde can be artistic, textural and engaging. I'm not taking issue with the absence of conventional melody and harmony.
But this man's violin playing simply never added up to very much. Jenkins was dedicated to sloppily scratching out musical gibberish...he received NEA grants and various forms of facilitation and attention IN SPITE of a self-evident lack of genuine musical ability. Exactly why? The truth is too awkward and discomfiting to bother to explicitly state.
Amazing, "miss basic," you've revealed your ignorance while admitting that you probably play violin. For your information, Leroy Jenkins was one of the more recent innovators in jazz, and he was one of the few to make a case for jazz violin. You are among the many to make a case for violinists staying out of jazz. If you cannot appreciate ingenious music, I invite you to stick to your mundane exercises.
mr jenkins was not capable of (or at least, he never tried) creating anything remotely related to a jazz phrase, nor had he worked out any classic harmonic or motivic jazz language. those things are really hard to do. leroy didn't really play the fiddle too well in general. i kind of like his playing, but i think it's time to raise the bar on what we call a good jazz violinist.
Some lovely playing here by the late Mr. Jenkins. I look forward to seeing some more of his work, especially if you can post some of the Revolutionary Ensemble. There is some good stuff in George Lewis' new book that you should see (Power stronger than itself) ...best wishes and thanks for posting.
what do you know about improvisation? you have a lot of opinions. why don't you care for this music? If you don't like it, and think that this man can't play , why do you bother to comment at all? Oh, i think i understand.
Jenkins' violin playing "simply never added up to very much". Says who ? What instrument do you play ? How many records have YOU made? Get real. So you don't like the music.
Answers: Much. Violin, cello. 7 "records"/CDs of my own...400,000+ units sold in 5 years. Many appearances. Jazz mainly...progressive, abstract, fusion, plus blues, rock, classical...I'm versatile. And I don't admire con-artists. Jenkins = con-artist
I "bother" to make critical comments because of the sad degree to which dummied-down people appear to outnumber those who haven't been dummied-down ;-)
How about not liking it because it's banal aggressively sloppy pseudo-intellectual gibberish?
That is Leroy Jenkins from the AACM. So sorry to hear that he has passed away, a real influence on many creative musicians. I played with him in 1978, in Ann Arbor, Mi. He made a full big band sound like toys, compared to him soaring over us.
This IS the REAL Leroy Jenkins you imbiciles! God bless the REAL Leroy Jenkins, a Jazz Legend who contributed way beyond anything you lames are trying to google.
