This is actually a very solid game. Great detail in play, graphics, even sound effects. A bit more of a classic mech game than the fast flying armored core series. Kind of reminds me of the old Gundam games.

I love Front Mission. I have played Armored Core a little bit. It's a little fast, lots of flying, LOTS of missiles and such. But, Front Mission is more simple. And I like the sound of bullets into steel.

I personally think that its a shame square has pulled away from the turn based strategy style of gameplay. I loved FM3 and still play it today and I think that it is one of the best games on the PS1 and I think there should be a lot more games like it.
I think they've gone very armored core with this and I was looking forward to a new FM game coming out in the UK but I'm now very dissapointed after watching this :(

Since this isn't called Front Mission 6, Evolved is probably just to appease everyone who wanted to control their wanzer like they always wanted. The FM series continued up to 5 because there is a demographic of gamers that enjoy commanding combat robots more than being in one, like a general. Maybe they'll use this as a springboard for new FM that will be both a TPS and a turn based strategy. As for the comparison being made to this game, they are pointless like Gozilla vs Cloverfield debates.
i really loved fm 1 2 and 3, never got the chance to play 4 and 5 (can't find it), played the new Armored Core but didn't really enjoyed it, i was really hoping for more tactics for the 360 (since f13 failed horribly)

I want this, I've been wanting to have control over my own wanzer. This is not the first time Square strayed from the typical turn based strategy of the series, anyone recall Front Mission: Gun Hazard? It was a 2D platformer, was pretty decent. If I recall Front Mission also had a MMO, (Front Mission Online) that had you in control of your own wanzer, Japan only though.

Well, the drastic change to the gameplay is because they wanted an action pased game to increase the sales of the game, not very succesful outside Japan (that's why Front Mission 5 is japan only), and Square Enix it's the publisher, the game developer it's Double Helix,(the guys that did Silent Hill Homecoming)
I hope it has the customization like front mission 4 and has a cool story line from front mission 4.......I really really hope this game is at least good......I REALLY REALLY HOPE SO.....
I loved all the FM games, and this new one doesn't look too bad. I will give this some credit going up against armored core. I would have actually perferred if they kept it with it's original Tactics format, but this is a nice change of pace.
I will say that I like the storyline over all the other armoed core games. I'll be looking forward to it ^_^.

I'm really not feeling very confident about this game. All other FMs were tactical RPGs, and now they want to turn it into a shooter? I can understand wanting to appeal to a larger audience, but this... It's hard for me not to feel like they're getting in over their head and moving away form everything FM is. Or was... =(

Compared to armored core!? thats implying ArmedCore is fun... every mission in AC you pretty much run out of ammo, just to fight some lame jumping AC with infinite boost who doesnt have to kneel down to shoot his shoulder bazooka.
I was waiting for this to happen. That is to see the day when this series finally transitioned from it's tired turn-based system to fully-realized 3D combat mechanics in real time. This studio has shown they're competency in making mech titles in the past - so hopefully this time they won't disappoint. Looking forward to a potentially awesome game.
I was so happy to hear that Front Mission was coming to PS3. However, Front Mission Evolved is nothing like I expected. My hope was for another turn-based strategy RPG played more like a chess match - like Front Mission 4 (Final Fantasy Tactics, etc.). Instead, they have appeared to design an inferior version of the computer based game Mech Warrior. This is such a disappointment. Needless to say I won't be buying it until it hits the $10 shelf. I predict this game to be a dud.

i dont know why but every time i se this trailer and game plot, i feel its so very more close to Gun Hazard, and not FM5, if im true, it would be a sequel of FM:GH. the certain proof its that gun hazard ends exactly on the year 2070, with the very finishing of the Atlas ( the first eveleator that reach a height to obtain direct energysource from the sun)
and matches with this plot cause this games describes on the year 2071 their start to contructs massive elvators of the same type.
Actually, Gun Hazard isn't canon in the FM series (the other spin-offs like Alternative are, though). You might be right in that Evolved could be a canon version of GH, but set way past the other canon FMs (it's in 2171, not 2071).
Well, not quite. The tech is certainly inspired by GH, but I think the comparisons will end there. For a canon entry, I imagine the plot will be far closer to the gritty political/military realism the older FMs had than GH's sci-fi. Evolved might change this because FM was never supposed to go beyond FM5 (which ends the series).
Yeah thats true FM5 closes the all ties with the series. I'm glad there kinda making GH story somewhat canon because it was a pretty decent game. Yet im pissed off that FM5 still hasnt been translated and released overseas because from what I read and saw its the most epic FM to date.
i rather the old RPG versions, this looks great, i gat to admit, but still... the have to make it up to us... Square enix didnt make a american version of the series # 5 (scars of war)... and many people say that it is the best one yet.
People should stop panicking this isn't the first time Square Enix used a title for a different style of gameplay and it doesn't mean that they are not going to make anymore tactics style Front Mission games.
They aren't calling it Front Mission 6 or anything.(Front Mission 5 having been released exclusively in Japan).
simply put, if this game were still a tactics based game than that would answer your question but seeing how they changed the whole thing to a third person shooter like the online version, I can't back anything up for this.
FM Online was a completely different beast from this. It was a perfect recreation of FM strategy in real-time. No one can play Rambo, teamwork is absolutely crucial to surviving, and the general feel of large-scale war (50+ wanzer/tank/heli/mobile weapon wars). The level of detail in the design is on-par with any Armored Core, from weapon reload/recoil to momentum/inertia movement physics. FM Evolved, on the other hand, clearly lacks the polish and effort of FM Online.
they don't need to conform to a shitty shooter to get more fans, they need to make the same game they've been making but fill in where they had flaws. It would be perfect if it was like FM4, with the same game mechanics and everything, but better smoother graphics, powerful sounds that suit the massive wanzers, and longer more frequent and more satisfying action shots instead of 2 guys just taking turns shooting at each other for 5 seconds.
being a huge fan of armored core (and mech games in general) i can honestly say this isn't a copy of armored core. maybe the earlier ones but it's not even close to ac4 and acFA. when they make them go an 1000mph then you can call it an armored core clone

I think they made it like this to kinda emulate their Front mission online game they recently closed. Which was kinda like this, but he Wanzers were WAY slower than this

I really enjoyed the Front Mission on SNES. It's the only one i've ever played and seeing this one I think it may be good too. I own a ps3 so I'll definitely check into this game when it's released :).

I think everyone seems to miss the fact that there was a Front Mission game in the 90's that was not a turn-based strategy game. It was called Front Mission Gun Hazard. This game seems to be a 3D version of that kind of game. I liked the turn based Front Mission games but I am also looking forward to this one.

Front mission had gunhazard and online, and I'm not complaining one bit. even though many are considered copies of other games, they are still fun as hell to play and have a great and compelling story.
besides, it's about time square stopped making excessive amounts of final fantasy games and took a look at it's other franchises, like this one especially.

Compared to armored core!? thats implying ArmedCore is fun... every mission in AC you pretty much run out of ammo, just to fight some lame jumping AC with infinite boost who doesnt have to kneel down to shoot his shoulder bazooka.

I'd probably lend it to see how it works out, but I dont get my hope up that it will be better than AC1 or 2

I was waiting for this to happen. That is to see the day when this series finally transitioned from it's tired turn-based system to fully-realized 3D combat mechanics in real time. This studio has shown they're competency in making mech titles in the past - so hopefully this time they won't disappoint. Looking forward to a potentially awesome game.

I was so happy to hear that Front Mission was coming to PS3. However, Front Mission Evolved is nothing like I expected. My hope was for another turn-based strategy RPG played more like a chess match - like Front Mission 4 (Final Fantasy Tactics, etc.). Instead, they have appeared to design an inferior version of the computer based game Mech Warrior. This is such a disappointment. Needless to say I won't be buying it until it hits the $10 shelf. I predict this game to be a dud.

i dont know why but every time i se this trailer and game plot, i feel its so very more close to Gun Hazard, and not FM5, if im true, it would be a sequel of FM:GH. the certain proof its that gun hazard ends exactly on the year 2070, with the very finishing of the Atlas ( the first eveleator that reach a height to obtain direct energysource from the sun)
and matches with this plot cause this games describes on the year 2071 their start to contructs massive elvators of the same type.

Actually, Gun Hazard isn't canon in the FM series (the other spin-offs like Alternative are, though). You might be right in that Evolved could be a canon version of GH, but set way past the other canon FMs (it's in 2171, not 2071).

Well, not quite. The tech is certainly inspired by GH, but I think the comparisons will end there. For a canon entry, I imagine the plot will be far closer to the gritty political/military realism the older FMs had than GH's sci-fi. Evolved might change this because FM was never supposed to go beyond FM5 (which ends the series).

Yeah thats true FM5 closes the all ties with the series. I'm glad there kinda making GH story somewhat canon because it was a pretty decent game. Yet im pissed off that FM5 still hasnt been translated and released overseas because from what I read and saw its the most epic FM to date.

i rather the old RPG versions, this looks great, i gat to admit, but still... the have to make it up to us... Square enix didnt make a american version of the series # 5 (scars of war)... and many people say that it is the best one yet.

People should stop panicking this isn't the first time Square Enix used a title for a different style of gameplay and it doesn't mean that they are not going to make anymore tactics style Front Mission games.
They aren't calling it Front Mission 6 or anything.(Front Mission 5 having been released exclusively in Japan).

simply put, if this game were still a tactics based game than that would answer your question but seeing how they changed the whole thing to a third person shooter like the online version, I can't back anything up for this.

FM Online was a completely different beast from this. It was a perfect recreation of FM strategy in real-time. No one can play Rambo, teamwork is absolutely crucial to surviving, and the general feel of large-scale war (50+ wanzer/tank/heli/mobile weapon wars). The level of detail in the design is on-par with any Armored Core, from weapon reload/recoil to momentum/inertia movement physics. FM Evolved, on the other hand, clearly lacks the polish and effort of FM Online.

they don't need to conform to a shitty shooter to get more fans, they need to make the same game they've been making but fill in where they had flaws. It would be perfect if it was like FM4, with the same game mechanics and everything, but better smoother graphics, powerful sounds that suit the massive wanzers, and longer more frequent and more satisfying action shots instead of 2 guys just taking turns shooting at each other for 5 seconds.

Japanese game makers are still stuck in the PS2/Dreamcast era. Look at this trailer!
These new games have better graphics of course, but the art direction and sound (oh gosh the SOUND!!) are still very much last gen.
I think they've run out of creative juices.. either that or they simply failed to keep up with the dynamic demands of gamers today.
We don't want to see immature anime style games like this one or Final Fantasy. Jeeze guys don't you get it? Grow up! We have.

being a huge fan of armored core (and mech games in general) i can honestly say this isn't a copy of armored core. maybe the earlier ones but it's not even close to ac4 and acFA. when they make them go an 1000mph then you can call it an armored core clone

I agree with most of you guys though, I am getting sick of the shooters on ps3, there's just too many and I'd like a change of genre once in a while. (COD 4-5 and killzone 2 are pretty awesome though online)

I really enjoyed the Front Mission on SNES. It's the only one i've ever played and seeing this one I think it may be good too. I own a ps3 so I'll definitely check into this game when it's released :).

BTW custom mechs was first done by front mission so ac copied them.
I like front mission designs better then ac, they look cooler.
front mission is more realistic as they are more like humanoid tanks.
and best of all front mission normally has a good story

I think everyone seems to miss the fact that there was a Front Mission game in the 90's that was not a turn-based strategy game. It was called Front Mission Gun Hazard. This game seems to be a 3D version of that kind of game. I liked the turn based Front Mission games but I am also looking forward to this one.

I think this is a nice change. any way don't knock it before you try it and stop comparing to to ac. ac is rather disapointing. this has potential as you play in a army not solo.plus there is strategies in it, like sneaking past a unit then wait for the order to flank from behind etc

Front mission had gunhazard and online, and I'm not complaining one bit. even though many are considered copies of other games, they are still fun as hell to play and have a great and compelling story.
besides, it's about time square stopped making excessive amounts of final fantasy games and took a look at it's other franchises, like this one especially.
