How to Tie a Bow Tie

I was struggling to learn how to tie a bow tie, was looking at several different instructional diagrams and videos, but this one really got me to my first bow tie !! The part it explains roughly from 0:48 is where most other videos fail to be clear.

My iPad app compared it to tying shoelaces which now makes total sense in fact if you take a ribbon and tie it the same you can master this with the real thing.

Practice though does make perfect.

It was, of course, your original statement (now removed) that Lucky's video was the very best that could be found on the web, which prompted me to say, 'I don't think so.' It IS good, being short and clear and obviously many people have find it beneficial (which is great.) However, my own offering (How to tie a bow tie - fully explained) goes into much more detail, which many prefer. Whichever you choose, being able to tie the tie is the important thing!

That is where it gets tricky, but after you bring the long side over the middle and you have a cross/T, bring the two ends of the cross/T together and pull out. You will find the hole, which every video tells you to bring it through. Sorry if that made it more confusing, but keep trying! It took me a few hours to get it to remotely resemble a bowtie, and now I can tie them at a decent speed.
