united snakes.. haha, love the title! I love how they are refering to the united states/united kingdom I wish I can see them live again they are fucking awesome!!
@vakama94 There's loads of it about, but most of it is rather underground. In my opinion, a few Radiohead tracks lean this way a little bit, and even some very early Elbow tracks too. Also, try some proper hip hop as well - bot commercial rubbish, but try the likes of MF DOOM or Cannibal Ox.
@vakama94 may i suggest Zero7, Air, Morcheeba, Hooverphonic, Mono, Martina Topley-Bird and UNKLE, for starters. I love Portishead. I have all three studio albums, the live album, the live dvd, two shirts and a mug. hahah
This song seems to indicate, strictly because of its title, that it's only the United States that contains the bad apples. When the truth is, that bad apples, are all over the globe.
Think of Earth, as a big skull with a snake crawling in and our of it. And the remaining pieces of skin, marrow, nerves, and flesh are representative of the only decent humans still left on Earth, who simply try to get ahead, progress, and be happy based on means that don't destroy anyone else's happiness.
@ivokio Totally there with ya dude. They did the same thing when I went to their concert for the first time in my life. Started with this shit, and I'm like. "Oh? Wow!!"
Massive opened with this at the Dallas, TX show, 11-1-10. I agree with the others, when this show is performed live, the shear energy of the crowd and volume of the music is able to beat your heart and mind into a completely submissive and euphoric state.
They played this in Vancouver this past year, dope track. They're even better live than they are recorded. Plus, Del Naja's first comment on-stage at that event: "Sorry we're late, the stuff you've got here is a bit stronger than we're used to" - talking about BC Bud xD
I just got "Heligoland" and this one's not on there. Is it on some special version of the cd that I couldn't find at a local mall in MD? I love this tune! Want more, dammit!
@ce12629 I see, a deluxe edition. I was so anxious to get the new cd before I attempted to go to one of their shows here on the east coast. Is there any other way to get a hold of this if I don't have access to an Ipod (yet) or Itunes?
This was their first song played at the Malkin Bowl at their concert in Vancouver. It was amazing to listen to with the lights, I'll be posting up a video of it shortly when I combine all the short clips together! Great song!
saw them sunday toronto, blew me away, this song and all were over the top. Just amazing, no words to describe how I felt. Like being stoned without being stoned?
I saw them in brisbane, I was right up the front, so your always gunna have an amazing experience, but literally, with or without that, best concert I've seen.
We even had 2 kookaburras sitting atop the light setup the entire show, Naja noted this to everyone how they were a lovely couple then they played Karmacoma because of them. The birds also gave a loud call right before the show started. Was eerie, and amazing.
ahh wish i hadn't spent ages trying to find the recorded version now. heard it for the first time at the sydney show and it was so epic, this is alright...
Yep - the Perth concert in King's Park was the best gig I've been to in a long, long time. The sound was the best quality! Thanks Massive for coming to Western Australia again!
@Disposition446 Exactly. Because HEGLIOLAND sucked. The only CD of theirs I've not bought because I previewed all the songs first and they were a drag.
@Disposition446 It's actually on the 3 vinyl box set special edition of heligoland, along with another rather soothing song and two remixes. So happy to have bought it. This was also the opening song at the heineken jammin festival last year, way cool
New album out february 8th. Ten songs including three from Splitting the atom. The usual collaborators eg. Damon Albarn, Horace andy. And Martina T B and Guy Garvey. The guys from splitting the atom. Should be good.
