  • The Music makes it Hell a lot better

  • Pretty cool (though it sounds more like a Master System game than a NES game to my old ears).

  • I loved Pro Wrestling on the NES as a kid. Of course the fake "Wrestle Jam" game in the Wrestler was a neat idea. Great idea making a real game instead of just having them mime it with stock footage. Still, it would be really cool if they released the ROM of this game to the public! There is a sizable homebrew scene for classic systems, retro gaming and "new games" on old hardware

  • @XSC3 fuck that, finish the game, add more chars and give us a $4.00 Wiiware,PSN, and live arcade release and I'd be happier than having a rom with two playable chars.

  • @BillyCauseyjr double eff that and make it an editable game on the pc... infinite characters instead of a forgettable console download

  • RELEASE THE ROM

  • Star Man rocks. No way the Piranha beats him.

  • nice song.

  • well done, very convincing. You wouldnt happen to know if there is a rom dump of the game they developed...?

  • This song rocks, I'd love to play Wrestle Jam

  • Holy shit, did he just fucking bite the guy's head? 1:00 that's so badass.

  • That's true lilrick98... I just used the nintendo video because that's all I had at the time ... The music is what's in the film. Actually a slower version of this tune.

  • this is pro wrestling from Nintendo. it was not used in the wrestler. the game from the movie i believe was made by data east.

  • Nah the game in the movie was made just for the movie. And it was a real game. Aronofsky said he was tired of seeing fake games in movies, so he had some people whip up a real two player game. Rourke and the kid were really playing as they filmed.

  • One of the best video games ever.....star man was a beast

  • Excellent. Any chance you could post a link to a chiptune / midi?

  • Hell yeah!

Finally saw the movie last night, and I have to say Wrestle Jam 88 is probably the best fake-video game I've seen in a movie. I'm kind of tired of seeing people play Tekken 2 with a Super Nintendo controller while the soundtrack of Pac-Man plays, and then they put their controller down and their guy keeps fighting somehow.

  • @GilbertSmith Ahhhh hahaha I couldn't agree more, and you summed it up so perfectly, cause that's exactly what happens.

  • Yeah, if it weren't already one of the best movies of the decade, I'd give it five stars just for Wrestle Jam 88.

  • This is great! I love classic video game music, and it's so awesome to see that this music created so recently stays faithful to the songs in the games we played 20 years ago.

  • 8 bit music!! Yeeeaaaah!!

  • Awesome! And the demo game maked specical for film..."Wrestle Jam" where can i download ?? )

    Respect from Russia)

  • I wish Randy the Ram could eat his opponet's heads. Then he would be safe from the staples... and the glass.

  • haha amazing work, i love the drama section that starts at 26 secs.. hilarious! If you've uploaded this somewhere can you pm me the link? Thank you and amazing job!!!

  • nice work. congrats on the project. you helped make that film awesome!

  • B-BIT FOR LIFE!

  • Awesome track, true 8-bit quality. What did you use to compose it? Also, are you familiar with the 8-bit music communities online, such as 8bitpeoples?

  • Will you make this theme available as a download?

  • No problem SashaNein ... I'll try to remember to upload it somewhere tonight ...

    J

  • could you make this available as a ringtone?

  • Hi Cheezmuffin, I don't think I can covert it to a true ringtone (requires specifc software I believe), but I can possible upload the mp3 if you want and you can use it however you like. (easy to make a ringtone if you have an iphone) Thanks for stopping by.

    - J

  • awesome. just send me the link whenever you put it up. thanks :)

  • The Amazon vs. Starman from Pro Wrestling on NES! This game is still fun.

    A WINNER IS YOU!

  • This is an awesome track and the scene in the movie featuring the game is so poignant. Great, great job!

  • Many Thanks strweed ...

  • great track... and i had alot of great memories of pro wrestling

  • Thanks neoxbomb ... defintely brought back some memories making this one (mostly of fighting with my brother for the controller ;)

  • Nice work, especially the A section is memorable. If anything I think the drums are really what gives it away as "not really nintendo". If you listen to a lot of nintendo drums they are much more sparse than this. Overall nice job! Glad Aronofsky's career survived his last film "The Fountain".

  • Thanks keithburgun ... yeah I probably got a little too fancy with the drums... I couldn't help myself.

  • This is rad.

  • Thanks VeryTasteful ...

  • Dang Double Knee Drop from the top? Ongbok!

  • Very cool, well done!

  • Randy: You ate a bit of wrestler?

  • That's pretty good. It doesn't really have the classic NES sound to it though, but it works well enough.

  • It's true... I didn't make this tune the traditional NES way so it's not really authentic. Not enough time for all of that programming so I used my traditional set up to emulate as best i could. Thanks for stopping by.

  • Amazon>Starman

  • I love it.

It "feels" like a classic. And I can trick myself into thinking...Yeah I remember this. ha ha!

    Kudos.

  • Thanks Azorino ... you guys have inspired me to make a few more and synch it to picture.

  • What program did you use to make the music?

    I love the track. :)

  • Thanks EmilioDigsIt. Mostly done in Logic Studio, some nifty 3rd party "8-bit" plug ins, and Reason 4

  • Like the video says, a Winner is YOU.

Thanks for writing this. I haven't seen the movie yet - but I will.

  • Wow! I love the theme, definitely perfect.

  • Great song! Definately has the appropriate old-school feel. Reminds me of running home from the bus stop in the lates 80's just to play NES. Your hard work is is greatly appreciated.

  • Thanks wickersham123 .

  • I like the little camera man outside the ring. I've never seen that in a wrestling game since.

Looking forward to this movie. Who knows when I'll get to see it. Screw limited availability.

  • If this song would have been featured in a game back then it would have definately been one of the best. It does everything a song for this type of game needs so well. I'm not talking about the technical stuff (because i know squat about that) but emotionally.

It makes "wrestle jam" come to life and feel genuine. A lot of filmmakers don't care about that.

    Great Job.

  • Many thanks marvelmania. I never thought anyone would actually find this youtube page.

  • I found this video a few days ago and recognized the tune. But I wasn't 100% sure (because of the picture). Today a link was posted on a newsite, so I had to comment.

But since it is on this newsite, the clicks will come ^^

By the way,I just subscribed ^^

  • this is not the fictional game. it is "pro wrestling" for nes. i have it. i played it last week with my son. the characters in battle are "the amazon" and "starman". i'm sorry you don't remember it. it is pretty fun.

  • Correct. I basically needed a visual for the music ... I used to live for this game when I was younger.

  • haha this theme song is pretty awesome actually.

  • Thanks chibixleon. I has a blast making it...even with a tight deadline I was kind of laughing to myself when the track started taking shape.

  • is there a downloadable 'the wrestler' movie nintendo game?

  • Not that i know of. I believe they only created a few animations for the scene.

  • ah okay... that's a trivia... but I know i've heard some interview of darren aronofsky abou this and he never said that it was animation... anyway, i hope they come up with a downloadable version of the game somewhere...

  • You are right benj008 I made a mistake in saying that they used an animation. At the time that was my impression, but they did in fact find a programmer to help out. Thanks for clearing that up.

  • No prob! : )

  • Did they actually program it in NES or was it a PC thing with low resolution?

  • PC with NES controller input I believe.

  • i remember this game

  • you are wrong. the music is from the fictional game. the footage is not.

  • Scrub DiabloD3.

    hahaha
