i don't know why so much emphasisis put on the world cup for IRB player of the year, it's like they are forgetting there was a whole super15/henieken cup season and the six nations/tri-nations. Thierry dusatoir was good in the world cup but other than that he didn't do much. Players like Genia, Pocock and Nonu had far better overall seasons. But i guess the IRB make up their own mind regardless, making shocking decisions, such as McCaw winning the trophy in 2009 over O'driscoll.

this year's world cup was wonderful, it was full of excitement and life even here in the pubs where I watched the games 18000km away. Although there were many brilliant games and teams that I did not expect in the quarter and semi-finals I must say some of the kicking was quite mediocre, perhaps it was the pressure, but that really made it disappointing especially with Jonny Wilkinson, Weepu and the injury of Dan Carter. All in all I will look forward to the next one in 4 years.
