  • perfection!!

  • The 2 people who disliked this video............

a)have a bad sense of humor

    b)are jealous

    c)psyco

    d)all of the above

  • Great performance! Lively and much expressive.

  • How can anyone dislike this?

  • I have my own way to believe in things and I certainly don't agree with the church or the bible.

I'm not against God, I mean, what is there left for us in this world if it's not belief??

I just think that people should try to figure things out for themselves instead of going along with this major organizations, who use peoples beliefs to control them, besides, I do agree that what made him good as a violinist was his hard work and natural sense of music.

I'm pro culture and good music

    Nice Post

  • f*cking beautiful x)

  • Such technique. I don't think I've seen any other performers with such efficiency of motion. I was looking at Vanessa-Mae's recording and her arm easily moves double the amount that Perlman's does. So man people fail to notice the subtle differences in technique. She's at the middle of the bow and he's at the tip. So much control.

  • It has not so much reproductions, thats a shame, the world prefers to watch garbage on internet rather than art, beauty, geniuses and culture.

  • Thanks for uploading this. Perlman's my favourite.

  • Why is the second-highest-rated comment a hateful diatribe against the bible? Honestly, go fuck yourself, buddy.

It's hard to tell 100% because of the video quality, but my guess is that this would have been a wonderful performance to have heard live! Perlman was awesome back in the day...I've heard he's really rested on his laurels lately.

  • for anyone who says the intonation isnt the hard part is probaly because they pay little attention to it. playing through this partita might not be that difficult, but making music out of it is very hard.

  • only thing is that he souled his soul to the devil. fag

  • VHS!!! what a memories! :-)anyway;thanks for posting this is great!

  • without question THE BEST

  • when other people play on YouTube people think "what a great player." When Perlman plays, people think, "what a great composer."

  • Perlmans the only guy/girl I've heard play this without going disgustingly out of tune at the passage at about 32-38 seconds. I don't play violin so i don't know but I'm guessing that that bit is quite hard???

  • @johnyprestige I'm a beginner at violin and personally I don't think that part is very difficult to play (no I can't play it perfectly) compared to the rest of the piece. I think the most difficult aspect of this piece is the fact that it's in E major (4 sharps), and all of the changes in position. one can truly get lost on the fingerboard.

Milstein's version is pretty extraordinary too. the video quality is far better too despite it being older. He's a very clean player.

  • @simp1ejack a 'beginning' violionst would not be learning this piece? How can E-Major be hard for a violin?" The viola gets to play it in A major and there is nothing hard about A-major. I'd be more concerned about Don Juan by Strauss.

Getting lost on the fingerboard? Do you not practice scales? I can understand getting lost on the fingerboard, but seriously, you should be able to fly through 1-st through 7th position with absolutely no position and do 1-finger shifting scales.

  • @BoeingB17FF I've been playing 2 years. I'm not learning this piece at all. I just thought it would be fun to give it a run through. For some reason the "string crossing" parts seemed to come naturally... for my bow hand anyway.

  • @BoeingB17FF Well aren't you the genius when it comes to violin playing! We are all dying to hear you in concert since you must be so wonderful! And we look forward to hearing you play this piece!

  • @simp1ejack The hard part about that section isn't the fingerings at all. It's all in the bow hand. There is nothing hard on this piece for the left hand. It's all in the string crossings.

  • @johnyprestige its fucking hard, for me at least

  • As an adult beginner of the violin I find these Bach Partita's of Perlman's very inspiring. In spite of all the learned opinion on youtube about who plays which pieces best and on and on, the man is clearly a master. It would be a little less intimidating if he would at least glance at the damn fiddle at some point.

  • thanks for converting this from vhs & uploading. what a joy it is to see/hear him play this masterpiece!

do you know where and when it was filmed?

  • best rendition I have heard, fantastic as always!

  • Perlman of course better than Mae and better than H.Hahn, but too "small" in comparision with Nathan Milstein, - who is the best interpretor of Bach's sonatas and partitas for all time, espesially in this one, or chaconne ... watch Milstein play and if u have muscal education u will see the BIG difference

  • @my666vs777 Personally, I hear the inner voices much better in Perlman's performance - which, with Bach, is really the point, from my perspective as a performer. In Milstein's playing I heard the notes. In Perlman's, I hear the conversation.

  • not one wrong note.

  • I love the little disputes on the Youtube forum. Especially when educated non-swearing poeple engage in them! See below. i am trying to see if Perlamn's performance is better than Vanessa Mae Nicholson's. That is also on Youtube.

  • just watch the video and enjoy it. take your arguments somewhere else.

  • I know all of the talk about God and everything was months possible years ago, but I have to make a point.

This is a video about Perlman playing Bach Partita No. 3 in E.

This is not a video about religion.

So please, let us comment on the video.

Like benpant said, yet another fantastic, wonderful Perlman rendition.

  • Okay, Bach Partita No. "whatever it is" in E.

    : )

  • u notice how all ur comments are spammed? that's cause ur a christian....and god doesn't exist....so neither should you!

  • I am done talking to one that is of lesser importance and acumen than myself. Good day, sir. I will now delete my comments as to not disturb the other viewers by letting them see how one must deal with an ignorant person such as yourself.

  • why don't you correct your obvious grammar and spelling mistakes before telling me to go back to school, i already graduated from high school, the place out of which you dropped buddy. and for the record I don't run out of arguing points, boorish and prejudiced individuals like you have no arguing points because you are not respected by anybody in the community. Just because you are a loser doesn't mean God isn't there. the Bible is full of stories, not just the "word of God" that we must follow

  • I gets in.....ur mom :D

  • It is an insult to Perlman TheViolinProphet spreading his propaganda amidst the comments on yet another fantastic Perlman rendition.

  • ........ Perlman Flat lol yeah right its just the quality this man is a perfectionist when it comes to his craft! everyone plays differently but this is a hell of alot better than Vanessa Mae's now that i think of it

  • I don't think it sounds flat. I think it sounds great and is one of my favorites on youtube.

  • I think it sounds sharp. Don't kow why you rated it poorly, I think it's fantastic.

  • it's not flat

  • All the poor saps watching Vanessa Mae play this need to get over here!

  • i like milstein's rendition as well as perlman's, both the same. both are better than that of Heifetz in my opinion though

  • I think we have all missed the point, It's not whether Perlman is or is not blessed (plus he's Jewish), It is ALL about the song, the interpretation is wonderful and melodious, I could not hope to play as well as him, the rest is irrelevant.

  • @cybertek1 "song" -- sorry, i didn't hear a vocalist in this

  • @capnpayne Not this shit again...

  • Looks like Jesus is pretty serious about not working on the Sabbath. Better head to your local Walmart this Sunday and kill everybody there if you'd like to bask in the glory of this benevolent god for eternity.

    Oh here's another cute one.

    John 15:6

"If a man does not abide in me, he is cast forth as a branch and withers; and the branches are gathered, thrown into the fire, and burned.

Wow, Jesus sounds like a nice guy! No. What a fucking lunatic. Who could say something like that? Wow.

  • Matthew 5:18-20

"For truly, I say to you, till heaven and earth pass away, not an iota, not a dot, will pass from the law until all is accomplished. Whoever then relaxes one of the least of these commandments and teaches men so, shall be called least in the kingdom of heaven; but he who does them and teaches them shall be called great in the kingdom of heaven. For I tell you, unless your righteousness exceeds that of the scribes and Pharisees, you will never enter the kingdom of heaven."

  • Oh and while we're on the subject of the New Testament(you Christians always try to pull this shit), allow me to point out as bluntly as possible that Jesus supports and and expects us to adhere to every single law set forth in the Old Testament. My next comment will be one such example. I suggest you read it, as apparently this atheist knows scripture better than your pious ass.

  • Really? He healed the blind? When? Oh that's right, only in that dusty old excuse for a collection of teaching on morality.

Yes, Exodus is in the Old Testament. So are the Ten Commandments. What's with picking and choosing? Accept all of it or none of it. If god is omniscient and timeless, how could you possibly justify any sort of revision of his ultimate word? You can't. Either start stoning to death people you catch working on the Sabbath, or discard your obsolete faith.

  • On top of that, I'd love to know how you justify scripture passages like Exodus 21:7, which clearly states that god not only condones but encourages fathers to sell their daughters into slavery if they see fit.

How about Exodus 35:2, where god commands you to stone to death anyone you catch working on the sabbath? What about the ridiculous dietary limitations proposed all throughout Leviticus.

If you'd like to debate scripture with me, feel free. You'll lose. Badly. Very badly.

  • I know exactly what I'm talking about. Tell me then, if this god of yours has saved so many people, why then in the history of the entire world has not a single amputated limb spontaneously regenerated in response to prayer?

Furthermore, if god exists, how do you know it's your god and not Shiva, Brahman, Vishnu, Wotan, Thor, or Allah(although this is the same Abrahamic god, it's clear Muslims see things differently than you do)?

  • he was so flat at around 21-25

it when from sounding really really perfect

to amateur trying to play fast for a few seconds

mistakes are okay - but one must make mistakes correctly (think about it)

which mr. perlman teachers actually at his masterclasses (i had one with him)

  • and also

it is true that on his CD with all the bach sonatas and partitas it was ALL engineered because of the mistakes and blemishes

it is quite well known among the musical community that perlman's forte is NOT bach

  • he wasnt flat he was sharp and all professional violinist do that all the time for some particular reason.

  • as far as I remember, different music instruments have a slightly different tune

for example, the "A" you hear from piano is slightly different from violin's "A"

    and so do other instruments

(perhaps it is due to the string's material and the thickness of the string)

for violin, the "A" has to be a slightly sharp to make the sound perfect

  • God didn't do a damn thing. Give the credit to this extraordinary man and not some invisible sky daddy you've never seen and only "felt" in delusion.

Comments like that are essentially taking away from the all the hard work Perlman had to put in to reach the level he attained. Yes, he was obviously born with a natural proficiency, but to suggest that this "loving" god crippled him while making him an incredible violinist is asinine.

Perlman is a badass due to talent and loads of hard work.

  • @Trumpetz81 Finally, a sane person among us.

  • @bachthoven1685 Finally, some one who appreciates sanity and reason. :D

  • the best i've ever heard

  • hes a legend

  • grabando para la bbc

  • No your ears arent deceiving you. Yes he was flat at 22 sec. Still a very good performance. Perlmans one of the best.

  • he is not one of the best. he is the best!!!! He os legendary!!!!!!!!!!

  • He also sounds a little bit sharp throughout the whole piece.. I guess violinists can't do anything about the sharpness..

  • Could also be the recording. Looks to be an old VHS and that can alter the pitch. Or he could just be sharp. :P Stuff happens though and hearing it next to your ear is a different sound then when it projects.

  • Also, I have had the pleasure of seeing him play live. No out of tune notes.

  • This is a low quality tape copy of the original recording, as described by the uploader. A VHS is a poor gauge of pitch due to playback rate issues, especially with an older copy. Judging Perlman's intonation based upon this tape (without having listened to other recordings or having heard him live) demonstrates one's ignorance of VHS technology.

A wonderful recording, and a fantastic find and upload. Bravo to the uploader.

  • Someone, PLEASE tell me im wrong! are my ears decieving me at 20secs or is Perlman flat!

  • Sounds a little out of tune to me! I suck at telling whether or not it's flat or sharp at fast tempos but it wasn't right, that's for sure!

  • I heard that when Perlman recorded this piece the engineer made lots of adjustments to the recording because there were so many blemishes and intonation issues.

  • i think it's because he was readjusting the violin under his chin...

  • he plays it with so much emotion, i don't care if its flat. :)

  • BACH`s music is the conexion between man and the universe

  • Absolutely.

  • I can't get over it...he just plays so nicely!! And I'm learning how to play this, I have some issues with the sharps and flats on the G and E strings, so this video is very helpful to me. It helps me see how the fingerings are done correctly.

  • This video does help out a lot, I've already learned this piece but have decided to go back and work on perfecting it.

If you want another good video check out Nathan Milstein's version. The tiny amount of bow he uses in insane.

  • He makes that Partita, especially the 3 string crossing, look so easy. Too bad it's not.

  • they're not that difficult at all

  • I luv this prelude so much!

    Fantastically played by Perlman!

  • Perlman is the MAN! I liked his technique--it's so crisp, clear, and his phrasing is awesome. 5 STARS ALL THE WAY.

  • Wow!!!! no tengo palabras para este video. Precioso!!! wow!!

  • bach and perlman...no words

  • the best!

  • Love his playing

  • thanks for posting!!!

  • awesome

  • Its fantastic!!

  • I love it. Thank you!
