  • Eric, I would truly be lying if I said that was an awful performance. You have the talent of an Oscar winning actor and singer sir. My heartiest congratulations.

  • Delightful and very silly, music should be fun, thanks for the chords I'm going to check out your other videos for more chords

  • fincaman2, hi Kevin, lol, cheers mate. I changed the lyrics a bit in places. I don't post chords to most of the songs in my vids as a rule, simply because they can so easily be found on the net. Wow, can you play guitar or what? Never mastered the instrument that well. I play the same as I did when I was 16. Take care, Eric.

  • Thanks for the song - I wish the lyrics had been there...

(You said in the clip that the lyrics would be in the info along with the chords)

  • Hello Judith, thanks for posting. Sorry, didn't realise I'd said that, but have remedied now somewhat. All the best, Eric.

  • Thanks! A few variations in the words, but a lot of fun both ways.

I forget how I first found your stuff (may have been via a friend), but I keep coming back to listen to another one.

  • Hi Judith, cheers, all the best, Eric.

  • We're working in Cairo and are currently putting together a ukulele band made up of fellow ex-pats. I think we'll need to add this to our list!

  • Hi scottyandalice, oh wow, I've always dreamed of singing this in a bazaar in Cairo, really. Good luck with your uke band, let me know how you get on. Best, Eric.

  • Eric, ScottyandAlice here. Our uke band is ticking along really well - we did our first performance on Thursday for Christmas Carols on a felucca on the Nile!

Today we had a very fun day around the Khan El Khalili bazaar recording a version of this song we discovered thanks to you. We're planning to enter it into a competition - we'll send you a link as soon as it's ready!

    All the best,

    The Felukuleles

  • thefelukuleles, hi Scotty and Alice. Great to hear about your uke band, I would love to be there. In case you don't know, I changed some of the lyrics. The original can be found at the link I give in the info section. Look forward to receiving the link to your entry in the competion. Would love to know more about yourselves, what you are doing in Cairo etc. Perhaps you could send me a message. All the best, Eric.

  • Hi Eric... thanks plenty for this!!

My father-in-law is putting on a sand dance as part of a Christmas Cabaret with our local Musical and Dramatic Society and was desperate to get his hands on a decent instrumental recording of this. Now he has your version with the chords, so he can just teach the band to play it instead! You're a life saver!

  • Hi IRMoon, my pleasure mate. However there are loads of song tabs/lyrics/chords on the net, that's where I got it from. All the best, Eric.

  • This is one of my favorite songs performed on YouTube! I am not kidding. I even have downloaded to my new Zune. A lot of great words to remember, great uke playing, and full of facial expression. Thank you.

  • Hi KlausDieSchrecken, well thank you, but of course your very nice little comment should go to the writers, but I will accept it on their behalf. Cheers, Eric.

  • Well that was a very nice little ditty.

  • You can buy most anything,

Sheep's eyes, sand pies, a watch without a spring,

You can buy a pomegranate too,

An ounce of hash, a little bit of ficky ficky,

Yashmaks, packamacs, what a strange affair,

Dark girls, fair girls, some with ginger hair,

I could tell you how I know but I'll stop it there,

In the old bazaar in Cairo.

  • Rice pud, very good, what's it all about,

Made it in a kettle and they couldn't get it out,

Everybody took a turn to suck it through the spout,

In the old bazaar in Cairo.

Come and buy, you can try, everything in style,

Genuine, bedouin carpet with a pile,

Funny little odds and ends floating down the Nile,

In the old bazaar in Cairo.

  • You can buy most any anything,

Fat cows, thin bulls, a little bit of string,

You can purchase anything you wish,

A clock, a dish and something for your Auntie Nellie,

Harem, scarem, what d'ya think of that,

Bare knees, striptease, dancing on the mat,

Umpa! Umpa! That's enough of that,

In the old bazaar in Cairo.

  • Lyrics for: The Old Bazaar in Cairo (Chester, Morris, Ford) Sand bags, wind bags, camels with a hump, Fat girls, thin girls, some a little plump, Slave girls sold here, fifty p a lump, In the old bazaar in Cairo. Brandy, shandy, beer without a froth, Braces, laces, a candle for the moth. Bet you'd look a smasher in an old loin cloth, In the old bazaar in Cairo.
