  • Paul Morphy's sacrifice of the queen for gaining the mate was astonishing. I don't even thinked on such a brilliant solution there. That move completely kicks out the black queen's power. In fact he paralizes his opponent with this unexpected mate. Thanks for sharing it.

  • Thank u so much fot this I can understand this very amazing diffcault game

  • This commentary is aimed at a general audience. Those of you who claim it

too simple - what are you doing here in the first place?

  • Thanks for the video+beginner's commentary. Very clear, and a beautiful game.

  • he didn't put any notation in...

  • Nice voice, please continue commenting games. Comment modern games, that would be interesting

  • dude give up explaining games, that sucked.

  • Morphy's opponent seems to have been a complete rookie, as does the commentator of this video

  • lolz i see it comin

  • Great vid. Wish I were beginner enough to learn from it. I think you handled the switch from opening principles to master play analysis very well. One for the Godaughter to watch I think.

  • Great game, bad narration...

  • You know what, just fucking show the game as it was played...I cant stand all this, Well you could play this, or you could play that.. Just show the game as it was played!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • Anand, Kasparov, and Morphy play three way chess, who wins?

  • the ending is good. i do not suspect the average player to think of that. they would maintain the pin more than likely.

  • nice video man.

  • Very nice Commentary

  • Right at 0:42 is a bad move.

  • You made a 5 minute video into a 9 minute video.

  • amazing....

  • What a genius!

  • @xJMAN07x If he is such a genius, why is he dead?

  • @ThrasybulusBrig Everyone dies...

  • Thanks you for the understandable explanations! really easy to follow and very helpful for beginners!

  • Amazing game. Thanks!

  • dont comment on simple moves....so disgusting...

  • Wowwwww, I did not see that one coming

  • At 6:32 then Ba6+, Kc7 (only move) and Qb7# right?

  • Comment removed

  • at 2:27, not only can the knight win a pawn. The black king loses it's ability to castle and the only valid move black can play next is Nh6. And a knight on the edge of the board is rarely any good

  • People who are whining about "how the comments are too simplistic" don't know a thing about Morphy, or chess for that matter.

Black makes pretty basic mistakes, what sort of analysis do you expect then? Posers.

  • personally I didnt like it because the comments eventually became annoying and distracting. I understand it was for beginners, but truly this does show some pretty deep thinking and at a beginners level this might not be appropriate. I'm not very strong player, but I would have preferred this without commentary but with pauses between the moves to decide on the causes myself.

  • Oh my god your so annoying you comment on every single thing, if you just comment on the not so obvious moves maybe youll get more viewers

  • the commentary iss so primitive that it could only really benefit a player never played chess

  • You are stating a bit too much of the obvious... but still pretty good explanations...

  • so is this game like checkers? the commentary is so sharp that i cant follow the brilliant complexity of this game

  • I'm a beginner, thanks for the video!

  • Absolutely brilliant...

  • This is a very interesting game along with good narration. Thank you for sharing and taking the time and effort!

  • Excellent game and commenting.

  • My favorite way of winning a game, Tactics

  • Really enjoyed this video. I love your pace and saying B7 and G6 really helps a beginner like me who is still trying to get the board down in my head.

  • yeah it happend coz you are the WORLD

  • well this was a good game, but to give it the most famous game ever title was a little much. No disrespect but Byrne vs Fischer had alot more on the line and the fact that Fischer was like 13 and won by far out ranks this match, yes this game was over in a few amount of moves but black played like a dumb ass, in fact it look like Morphy was playing me in terms of skill. not sure who he was playing or how good they really were but this game didnt show it

  • Well done!

  • nice vid... tho for utter beginners which is not my case... u sounded a bit stressed out with ur voice or maybe it was just my impression... but still, very interesting way of commentary, I agree... gl with other chess stuff on youtube... M

  • very good - plz make some more chess vids

  • JOHN D CRONIN WHERE ARE YOU?

  • did you run 10 miles before recording your audio?

  • 0ne of the best moves i have ever see... Tnx for the video, greating's from Serbia

  • I clapped at the end, but almost fell asleep during.

  • Notwithstanding the instructional value of this game for amateurs, it should be noted that a good player will occasionally have short, one-sided, tactical games like this one against inferior opponents (I certainly have). Of the many games he must have played in his life, I'll bet Morphy would not have regarded this game as highly as many amateurs do today.

  • Everyone has lost a game

  • its an alright video but he states the obvious way too many times

  • did paul morphy ever lose a game?

  • @hackman1911 Yes he did. He lost a few games in his matches.

  • @hackman1911 he never lost a match, though

  • 57 seconds in and still no moves (besides the first one).. its a fucking 17-move game that was stretched to 9 and a half minutes of monotone narration. Why is that all the "intellectual" videos on youtube have these boring ass people?

  • Are you a retard?

  • this game is so amazing

  • this is a horrible video

  • I thought we all knew what doubling rooks was at 6:44?

  • Good job.

  • commentary was actually pretty good and indepth but very to the point.

  • How much valium did that guy take before making this video? He sucked, his "insights" sucked, and stretching a 2minute video to 9 minutes also sucked. This was worse than the guy who posts moves with classical music in place of commentary.

  • I like the classical music. I'm not an idiot, I can figure out whats going on.

  • amazing game, well, i like it ., it was beautiful

  • lol what a bad commentary

  • i think nobody who doesnt knows anything about chess are gonna watch this video, so i think all that over explanation is out of place.

    Thanks.

  • this was like watching playschool why did you over explain everything? we arent 5 year olds

  • Terrible commentary... but you have a nice voice :)

  • LOL I agree.

  • As an IM, this is the single worst I analysis I have seen on a game that is in no way a famous game.

The commentary is elementary, and lacks depth and analysis. It is blatantly wrong at several points, and even goes as far as asking the viewer to identify mate in one.

As for the game: both white and black make elementary errors in their play. White's piece placement is weak at best. Black makes obvious blunders, starting with 5. ... Bxf3. If 6. gxf3, white wins a pawn or displaces black's king.

  • As a chess club-level student, I think you are stupid to actually talk of Paul Morphy like that. This was a blitz game..

  • Agreed with Greenmigs31. Btw if you think that gxf3 is really better than Qxf3... you should not wear an IM title.

  • Arent you that imbecil that commented on jrobi's video with a combination which looses your queen?

    An IM? XD XD

  • @XaviarC I'm surprised an IM would go as far as to comment falsely on this game. First of all, this game IS a famous game, MANY of Morphy's games are quite famous, though this is probably not the most famous game ever. Second, your line as 5. ... Bxf3. 6. gxf3 is bogus. Talking about Morphy's play first, Morphy was probably the strongest player to never become World Champion. Also, what you call "displacing" the king after 7. dxe5 Qxd1+ is FINE for black. The black king is alright in the center.

  • This is easily the worst commentary I've ever seen in a chess video. I actually prefer itzospain's videos, even with no commentary at all and all of the explanatory text in Spanish.

  • what a sudden finish!

  • This video is what you get when you combine chess commentary with the story structure of Pulp Fiction and the narration style of Thomas the Train Engine. Five stars.

  • LOL!!!! Thomas the Train Engine!!!!

  • Haha you're right but come on... 'Thomas the TANK Engine'!

  • hilarious comparison but true - 9mins30seconds went by quickly!

  • is this for people who dont know how to play? everything he says i can say captain obvious too and those random pawns and stupid names...if only i cood see a version without an annoying commentator!!

  • @jwychor turn off your speakers please

  • Haha, the author sounds like a narrator from a children's movie. Video starts out quiet, and then... "This was the end of the game. -pause- Checkmate! -pause- How did this... Happen? It only took 17 moves..."

    I LOVE IT!

  • the immortal game is better.and andersen was better than morphy

  • andersen said himself that morphy was better, and i mean its not really up for debate, morphy destroyed him lol

  • ok,morphy was better but this is not the most famous game.the immortal game is the best

  • Morphy and Anderssen played each other. Morphy won.

  • Thanks for posting this!

  • wonderful video - post more plz

  • I'm a chess teaching and I understand that this video is for beginners. However, the comments were still a bit lame and don't hold your interest. On the good side, at least this guy made a chess video...which is more than what most of the people writing comments have done.

  • he comments on stuff that is absurdly simple... It's kind of annoying for anyone who has ever played chess.

  • You must be very young or walk around with your eyes shut - There are chess players of all levels and there are things to read for everyone - If you were a Grandmaster viewing this video you would realise this was not really intended to help you win your national championship. - My tip to you - Try to encourage beginners - I wonder if beginners ever approach you for advice.

  • No your right. I totally see your point I guess i was just looking to enjoy watching the game. The very first comment explaining that what they were doing was normal felt unnecessary. But yes i totally understand and your point is valid. As to your last comment, yes beginners have come to me for advice. And my comment was a bit crude i apologize. :)

  • @leonwool

so you're trying to teach beginners not to move a knight where a pawn takes you, yet you title it the most famous game ever... you fuck..

  • @Evilbible What is so unbelievable about it? I started studying chess when I was 5 and this was THE first game my instructor showed me and my classmates; a simple tactical game for beginners. I still remember this game by heart

  • @calebjmurray its a joke video i think

  • "Every player- from beginner to master- should in this praxis return again and again to the games of the American genius." -- Mikhail Botvinnik on Paul Morphy

"Morphy had a well-developed feel for position, and therefore he can be confidently regarded as the first swallow - the prototype of the strong 20th century grandmaster." -- Garry Kasparov

  • ebu4ij komentator, bliat, slov net

  • 3:40 whites queen should ov gone 2 f5 then move bishop 2 b4 then queen take pawn1 to the left

  • that doesn't make any sense.

  • No, Qb3 is more forcing, because it forces a mate.

  • Right. you're a better player than Morphy.

  • Nice ending

  • Morphy took advantage of the unprotected king and lack of piece development by Thomas. At first it looked like black might get smothered mated, but then it becomes apparent fairly quickly that d8 is a winning square for white. All of the subsequent exchanges are not about gaining or losing points, they are about reducing material and exposing a winning square.

  • Oh man I just love that retarted talk :D dude you own =D I'm not being offensive at all I like you :D

  • Nice video, would have been more exciting if the end position wasn't revealed at the beginning.

  • Welcome to Youtube! I'm happy to see that more and more people are doing chess videos here.

  • yeah me too

  • I like the way you narrated it. Very instructive for beginners as me...

Are you going to make more videos like this one?

    Thank you!!

  • one of my favourite games

  • oh.. sorry.. didn't realize that he was not IN check, and that he could just move the bishop on the king's side and then castle, so i guess it could've taken awhile, but that's still what i would have done.

  • lol, you just disregarded one of the main rules to avoid looking stupid: whenever you "notice" something that thousands of other people haven't noticed before, you'd better double check and tripe check before commenting on it!

  • Good video. Sounds like you were making up the narration as you went, which, considering how good it is, is amazing.

  • cant kings not take a unit that is next to them

  • The king can take any piece next to it, but only as long as the piece isn't protected.

  • post more videos this was pretty good

  • nice checkmate =)

  • Thanks, good video. Some of the moves, I may not have fully understood the intent (or double intent) For example, saw Qe7 to block checkmate, but didn't catch the lineup for the possible Queen exchange. Thanks again.

  • not bad ideas i see where ur coming from here

  • nice

  • For beginner, such as me, it is the only one video that I can understand .

  • I am pleased that you found it useful. If you have any othr ideas I may tray to do more of these.

  • excellent queen sac. Not sure why I didn't see it.

  • elegant game

  • lol, this guy talks like hes talking to a bunch of nursery kids lol. Oh noo thats not nice, we dont want that, lol. Dont want to miss the opera lol. But he also missed alot of what black could have should have done, it was a nice game by Morphy but tbh there was many errors from black here and many moves that could have stoppped this mate that I could see and Im only a 1800/1900 player.

  • omg ! ure comment gave me a stomach ache wiht the laughing !!

  • whys that?

  • "lol, this guy talks like hes talking to a bunch of nursery kids lol. Oh noo thats not nice, we dont want that, lol. Dont want to miss the opera lol"

when u mentioned it, sounded REALY funny

  • Oh right i thought u said it gave you a stomach ache without the laughing lol.

  • Comon dude, if Black played good, it would be a draw. That is Chess. Only when mistakes are made by one side, can the other side take advantage and win. So shut your pie hole you stupid fool.

  • Well, he coverage was pretty good. I don't black made many mistakes. Black stragery was poor and some miss opportunities. Early on Black could have accept lost of material for more development. In fact, I see black could have gotten ahead with such a stagery.

  • Brilliant!!!

Morphy was an incredible player and I love his all out attack style.

  • This was a good video, I learned a few things. Thanks

  • nice!

  • Thanks for the video. I'm a beginner and i've learned a lot.

  • Thanks for your comment. If you have Skype you can play a game of chess with me while speaking. You just need to download the extras too.

    Leon

  • That's right. Children and beginners who are learning English.

  • absolutely amazing game...

  • Well done Leon! Nice video!
