That might be my favourite 'train set' ever! I have never seen a locomotive like that before. I wish I could stop watching these marvellous little videos because you are reviving a dormant interest in trains and a wood lathe is already sucking my wallet dry with great efficiency.
Thanks Brendan. These are all metal, intricately manufactured, locomotives. In my opinion, they are an exceptional value. They can sometimes be purchased new, on ebay, for under $100.
@Fireheart528 LOL, there's lots of things I 'need' but this is actually quite close to the top of the list. I never had an electric train set as a child and this is the first that has really caught my attention so it could lead to something. If I do decide to go for this type of train I would build a permanent layout with scenery etc because that would be a very attractive project to me. Watch this space...as they say.
@baconsoda I'm in the same spot you're in except that i don't have the money to do it right now. I'd rather build an outdoor G scale railway--mainly the big steam engines like the Mallets, 2-10-2s, the occasional 2-8-0 and 4-6-0, the 3900 class 4-6-6-4s, the Pennsy J1 2-10-4, long-barreled USRA 'Heavy' 2-10-2s on a mining run, etc. etc.
@Fireheart528 That sounds like a very ambitious project and one that would be something to stand back and admire. I had never considered an outdoor layout but I have the space for it and it certainly would be an exciting project but, alas, that old money business spoils things and I couldn't take on that sort of investment while I am still buying woodturning related machines. I think I'll keep my plans more modest in the hope of actually achieving them. Mining run sounds good. Brendan.
@baconsoda Believe me, there isn't anything like wacthing one of those big engines slogging up the grades with a heavy train in tow. i'll send you the video in a message in a few minutes to show you exactly what i mean. Sometimes people don't even have scenery bc they focus more on the engines than anything else or bc they want something that is semi-permanent but could still be moved, so they build a deck platform for the track on top of posts driven into the ground.
@coldandscared Nope it's 2-rail On30. Also it has no smoke unit.

@baconsoda Then maybe a logging railroad is what you need.
