Technically this is not a raw food. Maple syrup is heated up to a very high point in the processing in big vats. Also, coco powder, at least Hershey's, which is what it looked like you used, is definately not a raw product. Agave nectar is not a low glycemic food. They use to say it was, but it definately is not. Look up what Kevin Gianni and Paul Nison says about agave. But the recipe looks tasty!
@julietesterman She always uses raw cocoa. I have seen a lot of her videos and she usually talks about it but she's pretty straight up on using good foods. Yep, I am on the fence with agave too :-) Used to say it was better but I have heard otherwise like you.
... I would only suggest one change: soak the raw almonds for 24 hours; it removes the tannic acid and the enzyme inhibitors, turning it into a living food!! :-)
@sensibilita88 How do you do almonds? I am learning. Do you soak them 24 hrs in water and then throw out the water and then blend with fresh water if you are making milk? Thanks!
Hey, Smoothie girl, just one comment: I really found the idea of putting some greens even in your dessert but tell you the truth, I was a little disappointed to see you promote cocoa powder in your pudding despite being health conscious in almost everything. Have you ever tried it with carob powder? You may very well have the same taste but no caffeine nor theobromine.
I remember carob - no fun in my experience. Have you tried raw chocolate yet? I live in a city with a..well..let's just say intense & very enthusiastic vegan raw food community [I'm high raw but not vegan at all] . They introduced me to organic raw chocolate. Much of the already prepared choc. treats are sweetened with agave, some with raw goji berries. A neophtye may take time to get used to the subtlety of it. I was not huge on sweets b4 but liked them - so it's a wonderful addition.
Very good idea to throw in some kale where the other flavors cover it and people can't even tell it's in there. Smart way to maximize your greens intake.
Right? That's pretty brilliant. Might even use that trick on myself, it's so brilliant, lol! I'm amazed at how into the raw foods I've gotten in only a month's time or so. My friends will not believe it! It's great how today, with tech. & a lot of creativity, the raw recipes that can be rendered....Ceruleana, cool user name...is blue your fav. color?
Yay! I just bought a young coconut not knowing what I was going to do with it. Now I will have to try this recipe. Except what was the "frozen stuff" you put in it?
I am going to look real crazy throwing cocnuts down in the parking lot of my aprtment complex. Someone in my old aprtmaent building used th throw the full grown coconuts down the steps and leave the shells in the stair well
And you can make jewelry with the coconut shells. Gallon quantities of agave must be pricey. It's a bit (20% or 30%) more expensive than maple syrup at the grocery stores, and maple syrup is a local product here in Eastern Canada.
Agave is a LOT less expensive than maple syrup here in the U.S., especially if you buy it like I do in a gallon (through a co-op or online). And it has about 1/3 the impact on your blood sugar that maple syrup has, just something to consider.
Not sure--I think I just put it on "smoothie." I'm not too sophisticated about using the different levels--I just either do it on high, or on the "smoothie" setting, or I pulse it, depending on the texture I want.
That looks so good. :-) Thank you for this recipe! That said, I have two questions: What is the frozen/defrosted "Squid-like" stuff you use at the beginning, and where do you get your Agave nectar? That jug is huge!
So sorry--that's just more frozen coconut meat. Somebody else asked me that, so obviously I wasn't clear. I buy agave in gallons through GloryBee online (I sign up as a wholesaler and do local group buys sometimes), but you can buy it by the gallon at health food stores too, usually.
Thank you very much for your reply. Whenever I see Agave nectar online, the price is no better than what I pay for a 12oz bottle at one of the local supermarkets, and bulk amounts look quite pricey (plus shipping, woo-hoo). Perhaps, since i am trying to improve my health, I should actually step foot into a health food store. I never have before, seriously. :-)
