I dont think so. I think they are live much better than in the albums. I mean listen to the "live in New York" album or the august deluxe edition where they play live in paris in 1994. These versions are very different to the studio versions but i think they are very very good. And i ve also been to this rockhal concert in luxembourg and it was just great.
i agree with you totally. I am a huge counting crows fan, but when i saw them live i was disappointed. He spoke it more than sang it, and totally threw it off rhythm and off beat. Now not to say that i don't enjoy a great acoustic or live version to songs, but the stuff on their cd's is just sooo much better. and not that this really matters, but when u actually SEE Duritz, you see that he's sometimes a tad too flamboyant ahahah
Let me first say I like the Counting Crows. I find Duritz to be highly talented. In fact, August and Everything is one of the few albums I'd say is perfect from first to last song. BUT -- this is what I can't stand about their live shows ... Duritz always wants to speak-sing the lyrics -- like he's giving a lesson or tutorial to the audience. And all the awkward hand gestures and such. He should just belt his stuff out with feeling an power like you know he can.
I didn't realize the userID was you, how funny! Glad to have met you. And a big thanks for pointing out the setlist to me. I hope you get the same great view at Mraz's concert! And some videos to share? :)

the genius lyrics are better served on the albums, not in concert

couldn't disagree more. he's acting out the lyrics....that's how he feels emotion with them, and I would do the exact same thing.
