  • love this song!

  • trumpets go hard!

  • One of my favourite alto saxophone pieces I've ever played. =)

  • b flat clarineetttsss<3

  • Last year the advanced band got to play this at my high school (I wasn't in it) and I fell in love with it immediately. Our band director gave us CDs with all our songs on it and I put this one and One With the Wind (another song for advanced band) on my mp3 player. I still have it there.

  • played this in middle school. then got to close out my senior year of high school with it. HANDS DOWN my favorite piece we did. TRUMPETS FOREVER

  • French Horn Part="Bells Up" Mr. Reineke you make me smile!

  • 7 people joined choir over band

  • My middle school band will play this soon and I get the alto solo at the beginning. awesome

  • Songs like this make me wish I did brass over the bassoon :P

  • Good luck to my Band who will be playing this tomorrow night. And also, for those who are in Marching Band, wouldn't this be AWESOME as a performance?!?!?!?!?

  • Love this song!!! (and yes i got it in band) I play alto sax, but since they didn't have enough percussion i'm stuck playing suspended cymball (which isn't bad it's just not my instrument).

  • It'd be nothing without all off the instruments:P But trumpets are the best:D

  • Ahhh, good memories. My high school band only had about 45 people in it when we played this. We scored "superior" in the music festival we played it at!.

  • @fireli5 which music festival?

  • @Irburgat Montana State

  • i absolutely with all my heart could die listening to this and be reincarnated by it all at the same time.... this is the kind of music that speaks without words... this is GOOD music. <3

  • Bass Clarinet ftw<3

  • were playing this piece for our second semester concert band class, does anyone have any helpful tips?

  • @GothicGirl967 Don't have crappy French Horn players like me :p

  • @snipe123snipe lol alright ill tell my instructor that first thing tomorrow XD

  • The saxo and flaute solo is the best.

  • I like the sax and flute solos :D I play the oboe solos this year.. Well, probably because I'm the only one!

  • 6:48 is my favorite part

  • The oboe´s solo is great!

  • that's why i love being in an orchestra. Every musician has to be part of everything... nobody is less important than the other one and everybody wants the same.... to do music, that makes the others breathless :)

  • lol we got this last week for symphonic winds... hectic piece. \it kinda tells the story eh?

  • this is an amazing song. so beautiful <3 go alto sax btw (:

  • anyone notice the background moving extremely slow?

  • THIS WULD BE NOTHING W/O FRENCH HORN <33

  • @annabel2400 the music would be nothing without every instrument combined together!!!! <3 <3 <3

  • @annabel2400 we don't have a french horn :( so we have the trombones play the part instead.

  • @musicalman1995 thats a shame i play the french horn and the sound in this piece is just amazing

  • @annabel2400 If by french horn you mean trumpet and clarinet. . . lol

  • @annabel2400 this would be nothing without the epic flutes at 151 :D

  • @StephieGucci ummm at 1:51 try oboe on melody and french horn playing the underscore long tones to it lol if a flute sounds like that you might want to get it checked

  • @DrDrekkar SORRY!! I meant measure 151 :P I played this song in band (lol I play flute of course) and it was always our favourite part to play, especially for my self and my friend who also played flute. (this measure begins at 6:10 )

  • @annabel2400 Hate it when ppl say stuff like this. Usually those who do have no idea about the musical structure of a band or too much enthusiasm for what they play.

  • @annabel2400 this piece was awsome for the french horn, i try and get my band director to play it every year

  • @annabel2400 The composition would be nothing without any of its parts. What makes it so great is the mix off all the various instruments complimenting each other. And yes, Reineke does write some great french horn parts. It certainly is one of the defining features of his music. Also, please try not to shout on the internet. It's rather rude.

  • @DarkHate556 U MAD BRO?

  • Why did we have to play this in 7th grade? Pretty easy though. But really cool.

  • 1st alto saxophone since a week.

Now I can finally play this solo!

One of the best sax-solos ever

  • sounds a bit like witch and the saint at the beginning

  • Who isn't just searching up this video 'cause they got this in band?

  • @thejazzpolice21

right here i just love Reineke

  • @thejazzpolice21 I didn't. Well, I did play another Steven Reineke piece (Heaven's Light), I was looking at some of his other one's.

  • @thejazzpolice21 who cares?

  • @thejazzpolice21 i haven't played it in band, but steve reineke is just an amazing composer(:

  • @thejazzpolice21 I know i am! They are so much better than us!!! Love the trumpet part at the beginning with the wind

  • @thejazzpolice21 I'm actually on this looking for songs to show to my band director to see if we can play them at concerts :D

  • @thejazzpolice21 this has nothing to do with your comment but 3 things: 1: great song name (the jazz police) 2: amazing composer (gordon goodwin) 3: we are playing jazz police for my Jazz Band A group. and...oh yeah we are playing this song for concert band lol i know that's 4 :p

  • @thejazzpolice21 i'm the person that suggested the song to my band director, that's why we're playing it...already knew the song

  • ok je..

  • And I am playing TUBA..

  • My band is working hard about this song

  • My band got this yesterday! I love it already!!!

I Find it funny that I'm the youngest one, and I have

    both French Horn solo's.

Don't get fooled, I'm not the only French Horn :)

  • Great performance!

  • I played this a week ago at junior orchestra and this is the gratest song i've ever played.

  • i can hear this is made by professionals. its the sound that tells it

  • Bass Clarinet. Christmas Concert. Freshman Year. 2010 <3

  • The Pilatus standing in teh swiss is e beadyfull mounten!!!

  • 7:15 - 10:04 Best part in my opinion. It's beautiful, majestic, and regal.... I love it! :)

  • love this song and Steven Reineke!! i belive i knew where it is but just to make sure is there a bass clarinet solo and where? thanks if can help

  • deze speelde ik in een orkest!

  • Epic song, my high school band is playing it at our band camp.

I didn't realise it was 10 minutes long though!

  • Enfin on entend la présence des bassons, enfin :)

  • My HS band took this piece to the national Music Festival Disney World hosts this past year...and we won best overall band..and I got the best overall soloist award for the alto solo at the beginning. I truly love Reineke's work.

  • @MysticUnicycleBrah good job

  • I enjoyed playing this piece. It's so fun. The bass clarinet part on this was very well written.

  • mhhhmm, many scenes from this piece are a little bit to garish (?) sry, i don't speak well english..;) but it's okay..

  • Play electric bass in school concert band on this.... feels so amazing playing it

  • I will never feel as cool as when I was playing Bass Clarinet in band for this song.

  • I love this song!!!!!!

  • Alto Sax Solo FTW ;) Going to convince our band director to let us play this song since I am Alto 1 :D

  • mmm....nothing like sitting back smoking a tobbacco pipe with this song playing in the backround....fantastic....you probably wouldn't expect that im a 14 yo. stoner lol but i have a secret respect for this kind of music i'm in band and play the alto saxophone and i hate everything about band but i absolutely love playing and we play witch and the saint in concert in a few weeks and i love that piece thumbs up for Reineke his music is something else-at 8:45 i melt :)

  • @fullofmilldo

    >14 year old stoner

    >tobacco pipe

    I don't seem to follow.

    >hate everything about band

    >love playing in band.

sir I have no idea what you are saying.

  • @fullofmilldo This is the most amazing run-on sentence I have ever read. My old English teacher would kick your ass.

  • Huh i life there it's a very beautiful and special Mountain.

Every day there's something new Special about it : )

  • i had to play this in my concert for band at my highschool tonight and was incredible!! cymbals FTW!! :D

  • I would say this is an awesome piece but for one small fact.

I play trumpet... this piece is about 1% brass, 99% woodwind.

  • the best of the best...

  • this is possibly the most hardcore song one could play in a concert band

  • this is possibly the most hardcore song that one could play in a concert band

  • i have the sax solo in our band for this. It's very fun to play! I'm also the only 1st saxophone, so I have to master all of the runs!

  • Went to Carnegie Hall to perform there and played two of Reineke's pieces with him there. I got to shake his hand and meet him, and now I'm happy to be playing two more of his pieces next concert; this being one of them. XD GO REINEKE!

  • When I went to the Honour Band in my school district, we played Pilatus Mountain of Dragons, The Witch and the Saint, Into the Raging River, and Towards a New Horizon. It was awesome. Oh, and Steven Reineke was conducting us. Best. Experience. Ever.

  • @saylor91 So ridiculously jealous...

  • for or last concert of the year the senors get to pick music and for a least the past six years they have always picked this one. it holds great memories that will never be forgotten

  • Cascade Concert Band....Spring Concert 2011!!! haha I absolutely loved watching them play this...the spring concert was actually today

  • hands down my all time favorite piece to play in band!

  • @dat913 We're playing it and it's so much fun! I love the first Clarinet part (: <3

  • I had the chance to play this song with my high school band in 2004, in Luzern Switzerland - at the base of Mt. Pilatus. Was so cool =D

  • Beautiful music!

    Greetings from Belgium, Flanders

  • love this. gunna go dream about it now. night youtube =,)

  • Our high school band is playing this song for our spring concert and it's probably my favorite concert band piece I've ever played!

  • 3:35 blöde Stelle für Saxophone, kann ich aus eigener Erfahrung sagen! Trotzdem super Aufnahme!!! Verbinde das Stück immer mit dem Dragon- Age Origins Trailer.... :)

  • The oboe solo at 1:47 to 2:13 (includes timpani roll) is actually suitable for some movie end scene whereby the hero(es) met their demise and the remaining ones are honouring them.

  • omg i love this piece!!!!! we played it my freshman year for MPA!!!!!! Love the flute and oboe solos!!!!!

  • omg i love this piece!!!!! we played it my freshman year for MPA!!!!!!

  • I LOVE it...but Im a percussionist....and can hardly hear any of the percussion! ;(

  • I'm in a wind orchester on the feet of mount Pilatus and we will play this piece soon as highlight of our concert...

I live since I was a child in Kriens(the nearest city of Pilatus) and I love this mountain...

The Mountain is as nice as this piece of music is...

But here in Kriens and Lucerne nobody know¨this piece and I found it we hope that the people will enjoy this ;-)

    I LOVE THIS

    Greets from Kriens, Switzerland

  • @raijah6 @embarandshadowlegend future oboist right here! :D

  • @bluetide14 YEAH OBOES! We should totally start a club and meet together. What instrument did you play before? I played flute(still do) but oboes totally pwn flutes! Sorry flute players!

  • @embarandshadowlegend we seem to be really rare, don´t we?

  • So basically, this man is awesome. My college choir is singing with him as he conducts the Jacksonville Symphony Orchestra Friday and Saturday. I'm so fucking lucky.

  • Oh, and by the way...the french horn part is so EPIC!!!!

  • This song is the most epic thing that entered high school band class. I love it so much!!! Third time I watched this video. I love this song. We're playing it right now.

  • that was my first oboe solo in my new orchestra and i loved it

    really a great sheet

  • @raijah6 Finally! Another oboe player!

  • I'll be needing six (6) Euphoniums to shove up some asses.

  • I miss this song, i know i have the sheet music for trumpet somewhere. best song i've played in highschool. ever too. good times.

  • this is totaly pumps our band when playing it!

  • favorite piece i played in high school!

  • 6:10 to the end is the best

  • I Played this in all county last night, alto sax solo had me from the first time he payed at the clinic...

  • I just played tenor sax to this piece in all county, i had chill bumps, the whole time, thumbs up if you did

  • I'm a percussionist, and our little concert band loves this piece.

    We did it for states.

  • coming soon to theaters :P that be a good trailer commercial i think

  • If disney ever makes another fantasia they should use this song.....just say :D

  • Jerrypinkus206 I play trombone in my school and it's very much alike to the baritones so I think u need to listen to some instruments and see how they sound before you say anything about them. And tubas have some good moments to.

  • @12457810able Well, obviously you don't play your trombone well, or can't hear well. I (also) play trombone, and the trombone, though similar, sounds much brighter and cheerier than a baritone, which sounds rounded. Record a baritone playing a part, and then a trombone playing the same part. You'll most likely hear the difference.

  • Tamra if you read this then i lve you snark muffin..

  • The saxophone part in the beggining is super pretty i love it and the flute solo gives me chills..:'D Steven Reinike is the best composer ever!!! Besides Brian Balmages:)

  • This song shows just how intense classical music can be.

Plus it has a solo for almost every instrument, so everyone's happy!

Speaking of which, were they using a different instrument for the euphonium solos? cause it sure didn't sound like a euphonium to me.

  • @HellzLilSoldier First of all, this is not classical music, in any way. I don't think this was written during the Classical Period, 200 years ago. Second, I believe there was only one bari/euph solo in there, and it was short. Sure you know your instruments? If you're thinking of the really beautiful mid-brass solos, that would be a French horn. Huge difference, and French horn sounds much warmer and beautiful. Baritone is crap, euph is a little better, and French horn is amazing. So yeah.

  • @jerrypinkus206 Fine it's Instrumental music, happy?

And yes I do know my instruments, I was asking this question because I played one of the TWO Baritone solos in this song last year at my band concert, I wasn't asking for you to knock my instrument and give your biased opinion as if it was fact.

  • @jerrypinkus206 wow, hater, much?

  • @jerrypinkus206 Wow, really? People can't compose classical music anymore? Well I guess according to your logic, there are no more composers of jazz music, or marches. Stunning. Acting as though you know about music, you should have clearly realized by now that "classical" refers to the genre, and is thus well alive today. Please learn to appreciate other instruments more, and learn about music before you senselessly try to insult people.

  • Omg, i just love the ending!

  • Omg, i just love the ending!

  • The song has more effect when you here it for real. [the symphonic band at my school did this the other day and I was simply amazed (: ] (I'm in choirr)

  • Perhaps marching band material?

  • This piece sounds really gud n my band has the talent to play it

  • @gamegirl436 well hopefully your playing is better than your grammar....

  • Go oboes :D

  • It's been 1 years and 4 months since I played this song in my band, I still love and aways listening to it..

  • Where'd you get this recording?

  • We played this for our field show this. i play tuba. GO LA MIRADA HIGH SCHOOL MARCHING MATADORS!!! FIRST PLACE THREE A!!

  • Mmm(: I just got this piece two days ago to start sight-reading. Not only does this make me really want to play it, but it reminds me of Samuel R. Hazo's song, Voices of the Sky(: I've got the piccolo part for this song, and even though it's a bit of a challenge, I'm willing to put forth the effort to play my part as well as this recording(: ahhh, the joy of good music(:

  • @ThatGuyWhomWasThere

Not me, one of the clarinet players, lol! Our oboe player just started this year so besides that, my school could play this, (we're a middle school btw)

  • @geowrockk755 actually, the closest to an oboe would be a soprano sax. of course, no instrument can be replaced by another. but if you really need a replacement oboe, soprano sax should be your 1st choice.

  • It's been 3 years since I played this song in band, yet I still get shivers listening to it. Such an elegant and beautiful piece.

  • My favorite part is from 3:11 - 4:19.

The hi-hat thing with the clarinet at 3:33 is sweet.

  • @evanellis I get to play that Hi-hat thing :D.

  • @TheRamenMaster

    It's sweet fosho.

  • A clarinet can easily replace an oboe right?

  • @geowrockk755 Clarinet can NOT replace an oboe easily!!! It's not the same! Blasphemy!!! RAWR!! (Is an Oboe player) If you're good though, I won't complain ;)

  • ..written for the 50th anniversary of my Orchestra <3<3

  • @Aristo1991 --> jbl-luzern.ch :D

  • Played timpani in this.

You're all jelly, I can tell.

  • wonderful :D I want to play this music! Fantastic :) I'm addicted in this song

  • This song is soooooo amazing. played it last year, and i still love listening to it!!!

  • I remember playing this in band :3

  • this is one of my favourite compositions we played in bandd:D

  • this song is amazing!!!!!i played it a few years ago in my middle school band 7th grade year...in our music in the parks competition we scored a 96 and won best overall band

  • We got this piece about a week ago and will probably be playing it at a large group contest in a few months. I already love it, even though I kinda suck at playing it :]
