  • This song somehow reminds me of old video games, and yet they make this :p

    I love it 8D

  • The best parts are between 0:03 and 0:09, then at 1:56 to 1:59

  • One of the best videos ever made, IMO.

  • so i've listened to every song on their entire discography.

and i have to say that this song, along with "dr. worm," and "ana ng" are by far their best works.

oh, sorry, almost forgot the higglytown heroes theme =D

  • I agree! :)

I also think I'm Impressed is good too.

  • I saw them live in 1996 @ RIT. The National Technical Institute for Deaf is at RIT and so there was a sign language translator on stage. Shenanigans were ensued upon, no doubt. Great show!

  • If I could favorite this a millon times, I totally would!!!

  • got me into tmbg.. 15 years ago.. jesus im old.

  • They were way before their time.

  • lol i just remembered this video

  • I like this song even though I have only heard it once.

  • What...the...hell...do you see that messed up guys face? Look at him sing!

  • DO YOU DARE INSULT JOHN LINNELL?! He is a genuis, his lyrics are some of the most creative I've ever heard, and only one who is stuck in the mainstream would ever say that.

  • Thanks for posting, one of my all time faves! These guys are awesome!!

  • such a good song

  • "Everyone dies said and frustrated and that's beautiful" reminds me of my great-grandmother. :-(

  • "Wake up and smell the cat food--in your bank account!"

    Hahahaha.

  • Nobody in this world ever gets what they want and that is beautiful...

  • the hopping dance at :07 makes me explode

  • or were u just sitting on Dynamite???

  • In that case it would be 2:14

  • This video makes so much more sense when you're baked.

  • Ironicaly, you know they have been arrested about 5 times for, I belive its acid

  • This band always makes me smile

  • Ahh. Flans kicks so much ass.

  • so smart and clever

  • its awesome but doesnt anybody think that head looks like john mccains head?

  • he looks more like Lyndon Johnson, but hes not. William Adam White is his name (compliments of ROFLpwnedvideos)

  • Man, what happened to them after their second album.

  • Video is surreal. It's like I'm having an acid trip or something.

  • Fucking amazing, to say the least.

  • Something about them just sticks with you. It makes me happy :)

  • who's head is that?

  • William Adam White

    (Compliments of Wikipedia)

  • William White, writer/newspaper guy in the early to mid 1900's. Sort of a strange icon of his time. Connection? Kind of a rebel/ free thinker of his time? Dunno. I am sure Wikipedia will provide more info.

  • If you have kids they make really good kids music about abc's and 123s w/ DVDs!

  • john linnell looks cute

  • wow, this is tru.y awesome, wheezer precursurs, i must document this in my favorites

  • Nice pipe.

  • greatest band ever!!

  • happy they day!!

  • This is kind of a forgotten time (late '80's)rock history after new wave but before alternative became huge. Kind of a transition era. TMBG have distorted guitars that alt-rock would be known for. While most '90's alt would self depreciating TMBG still had the goofy nerdy fun in a B-52's kind of way

  • One of the best songs I've heard in a while. Plus, the humor doesn't stop after you get the giant grin at the beginning. Dancing heads enhance the experience. lol

  • great vid!

  • GET READY! October 11 is They Day, write "THEY" on your forehead or arm to show your love of TMBG!

  • I believe this was the song that started it all for them. How great was that? And what a cool video, using not too many resources.

  • haha they are so lovely

  • Everybody dies frustrated and sad and that is beautiful.

  • one of the finest early indie videos ever! song rocks 2!!!!

  • You know what's the second best thing in this song (besides the actual song itself)? The choreography. Beyond a doubt.

  • To tell you the truth, I wouldn't call it "choreography", but its great anyway.

  • What were they smoking? Either way I love TMBG!

  • I first heard this in 1987 on a tape cassette dubbed from my brother's vinyl copy. I was probably the coolest 7th grader out there. Made my day finding this video!

  • Isn't that William Allen White?

  • Linnel and Flans have done it again.

  • i thought birdhouse in ur soul was the creepiest, but this is

  • They might be giants make me happy. I am having a hard time rigth now and my ex from hight school sent this song to me because I love it so much. It just but a smile on my face :) and The Puppet Hand.

  • whos their drummer and why isnt he in the vvid

  • At this point in their career, they had no drummer; just a drumming machine.

  • awesome song!!

  • I love tmbg i i have linells hair 20 years later lol im such a nerd

  • One of the best music videos in history and clearly one of their best songs. And it's the first recording? Wowzer.

  • One of the top 100 music videos ever made, apparently. Couldn't agree more.

  • I want to learn the dance to this..... break it out at dances and embarrass the crap out of my date.

  • This song just pulses genius and love.

    :D GO TMBG

  • The dancing is so ridiculously funny, just watch 2:07 to 2:17. Yay TMBG!

  • hahaha, when he says: "destruction" there's an accordian.

  • They Might Be Giants are so good. They make you question why you have to work and deal with the crappy world. Does that make sense?

  • Ahhh the good ole days. :) GREAT band!

  • I love this! :D

How they move is so cool in this.

  • Anyone know what this song is even remotely about?

  • To anyone who's rockin John Linnell's hair, extreme awesomeness to you all^^

  • LMAO his face at 0:05

  • everything's so attractive

  • Great music video. Nice style.

  • The guy in the glasses lokks so funny when hes playing the guitar lol!

  • thats what John meant to do =D

  • who is the cardboard cut out guy im really adiment to find that out

  • William Allen White, it's on Wikipedia.

  • "who is the cardboard cut out guy"

    William Allen White :)

  • William Allen White.

  • He was a janitor at their high school. It's in Gigantic.

  • I heard it was william allen white, can anyone confirm

  • best coriography EVAR

  • strange... very... strange

  • This is proly one of my favorites that we have performed.

  • defiantly there best song

  • Probably best video too, I love this.

  • You can't get in where they filmed this anymore. It's barricaded off and so are the space ship things from Men In Black. I was in Queens for a Mets game and thought, I should try to see where they filmed the video but it's all run down and grass is growing through the concrete. Sad to see it go.

  • first video of tmbg id seen. hooked forever.

  • as far as i know this is there first vid..on MTV when it was MTV. memories...."sob" when it was.... whats that... vid...e..oes... yeah.. still my favorate vid of all time.

  • love this song..well all of their songs=p even with all my emoness i have all their songs on my ipod!

  • that guy in the black and whits hot

  • What's their best album?

  • the else, no question.

  • This is tmbg in their "flip out and do something crazy awesome" mode of music video.

  • i love istanbul (not Constantinople) the best, but i hate the video for it.

  • I LOVE this Song!

  • SUCH a cooooooool Damn Pop song - I Love it.

  • Dang great. I remeber going over to my grandma's house, cause she had cable. This was 198? something.

I remeber they had like 14 cable channels. And one new one. MTV. I loved this video.

  • i wish they'd still let you in the pavilion like they did when this video was made...

  • ROCK ON TMBG!

  • This is such a good song. I got started on TMBG all because of a stupid science project on Earth worms (I know, lol)in 4th grade. Me and the girl i was working with named the worm Dr. Worm, and that night I was bored and searched Dr. worm on youtube and you can pretty much guess what happened next.

  • yeah these dudes are weirrrrd but they rock anyway!

  • Geniuses often seem a bit weird. I've seen em live 2 times this past year and if you haven't you need to. Live they ares incredible

  • Isn`t there just two in the band? Who`s playin` drum, bass and keyboard?

  • they hire a band to do all the extra stuff

  • The drums are from a drum machine, and I'm guessing Linnell (the one without the glasses) played keyboard.

  • watch older by they might be giants it will show you the other band people. In this one they are just focusing on the main people

  • @songoku93

they have a backup band now , but back in the day, which is to say when this song and video were created, they seemed to have made friends with the drum-machine. [:

  • they have a drummer, bassist, and another guitarist in their back up band.

  • they used a machine for drums, i believe the rest is them, they got a bassist in the late 90's now they have 4 since the HERE COME THE ABC'S album

  • just a hired band im guessing

  • wooooooooow this is so nerdy but i like it o_o

  • Wikipedia said their geek rock and i totally agree. Because geek rock is my kind of music :D

  • Go geek rock!!!

  • i LOVE johns flansburgh face when he dances

  • lol, mee too. and I just found out he lives near me. -_-

  • Yeah it's weird but I like it.

I don't understand what style of filmmaking it is. It's surreal.

  • Sweetafton23 does an excellent version of this on her 200 Subscribers video. 5/5

  • haha, i love the video :D

  • this is my 3rd favorite song the other two are birdhouse in your soul and estanble not constantinople

  • estanble? you mean Istanbul?

  • my, my, my, they were perfect in the early days and still are better than everyone else even in their old age and ruination by Elektra.

  • i second the motion!! they will live forever! well maybe not FOREVER.. but im sure theyll be around arowsmith finally shuts up. thats the great thing about them, there not THAT popular.. so they never realy get OLD to the public. look for "dial a song" cd.. 52 of there hits.

  • Well they are quite big to fair they just arn't commercial. They were on the music rich list so people must be buying the records

  • Most awsome best band ever...live forever TMBG!

  • I totally agree with magerie. x]

  • This is for Steph. I hope this brings some cheer to your day!

    -A

  • Oh boy do they make me feel happy.

whenever I'm sad I just put on TMBG and dance around in my underwear :D

  • that was actuly the point of them in the beging. if people ever felt sad they called a number and herd one of there songs. but they are rely rely awesome! ;D

  • I agree wit Megen. TMBG forever.

  • Whoa who turned on the time machine?

    meow.

  • ...particle man hates triangle man. they have a fight; triangle wins. triangle man.

  • i remember my dad showing me this video when i was really really little.... it is made of pure win

  • This whole album is completely awesome.I love TMBG

  • i feel a great pain of regret becoulse i know ill never meet tmbg

  • why not¿

  • didnt you hear!? they turned into sock puppets

  • yes but there little kids songs are actually really good! my favorite is nonagon

  • William Allen White

  • they might be about my age now...maybe more than 40 years old...amazing to see them again in 2008...we're scientist band has copy a lot from them...no?

  • Ah...the glorious days of the good ole 90's

  • 'Tis from the 80s.

  • i love tmbg more than anything

  • <3 TMBG !!!!!!

  • I'm gonna regret asking but who is the large face cutout.?

  • it is William Allen White.

  • I read an article once in which they were asked "who is 'the face'?". They said that due to copyright issues they could not reveal who that is a picture of.

  • Volker, maybe??

  • this is kinda strange and whats on their heads....?

  • they are not strange!!!!!!!!! next time try actully listining to the song if u know the lyrics they make perfect sense even though they dont sound like it did u know they write all theyr songs w no help?! and do u know how many songs they wrote?!

ALL HAIL THEY MIGHT BE GIANTS! ALL HAIL THEY MIGHT BE GIANTS! ALL HAIL!

  • i love this song and video XD

this band is so delightfully eccentric.

  • Despite their goofiness, you can tell these guys are very good students of music

  • who's face is that bouncing in the background on 0:31?

  • I love how they're so crazy... Awesome song, performed by an even more awesome band.

  • Background in this video: Flushing Meadow Park, site of 64-65 NY World's Fair, US Open etc...

  • I love John and John!! It's weird, I have a thing for John Flansburgh (strange, I know), yet my boyfriend looks EXACTLY like John Linnell. Funny how things work.

  • no no, i don't think loving flansy is weird at all. you like who you like. and lucky you for having a linnell looking boyfriend!

  • It's times like this thatI wish I were an eighties kid...

Anyone notice in the part before the chorus they spell out the word "Don't"? (D-world Destruction O-ver and Overture N-do I Need (Apostrophe) T-need this Torture?)

I find that to be clever and highly amusing. :-)

  • seriously, wow. I never even saw that. I actually printed out the words and tabs so i can play this on guitar so i have even seen it writen in paper and didn't pick it up. awesome find.

  • This song and video are amazing so shut up all you fools. And they are so young and scrawny at this time period. Isn't it weird how they like to show Flans's teeth so much?

  • thats such an awesome guitar. what is it?

  • It's a 1968 Coral Longhorn. Danelectro makes a solid body longhorn that sounds pretty awesome.

  • Danelectro Longhorn, mostly known as a bass model though.

  • looks like greg proops

  • Such incredible spastic motion! Interesting.

  • I play in a speed death metal band, and I have to say that They Might Be Giants has been my all-time favorite band of all time...isn't that strange. It's something about the happy, yet morbid, theme to their music that leaves you smiling

  • filmed in the New York Pavilion of the 1964 New York World's Fair in Queens

  • These guys are so amazing, I listen to them all the time now; very Alchemical for one.

  • OMG...my mom used to sing this to me wen i wuz little and i luv this song cuz she sumtimes sings it to me...in my heart... cuz i know that she luvs u guys but u guys rok

  • How is this sexy to me? I can't figure it out...

  • I hear that a lot, my girlfriend has a thing for the John with the accordion and no glasses, blanking on the name for some reason.

  • John linnell u fool! if u dont kow who he is u better learn fast becoulse he is the best guy in the world! *sigh* too bad hes like 30 years older than me and already married

  • srry dint mean to say fool

    ALL HAIL TMBG!

    ALL HAIL JOHN FLANSBURGH!

    ALL HAIL JOHN LINNELL
