  • This song frightens the shit out of me, i love it and i love that Trent has the power to make you feel that way about a song.

  • good to nod off to

  • Lol. It is an awesome song man, i disliked it at first, but one thing I have found with NIN is that once you crack through the rough exterior of the songs, you find a gem in each one. This is a good example. Depressing as hell though.

  • I don't know what's more fucked up, The Fragile or The Downward Spiral.

  • This is the only time i've heard Trent go crazy on his piano.

  • @somethingguy912 it's actually a guy named Mike Garson. He also did the chromatic melody in Just Like You Imagined.

  • @Bostonian91 damn. well. Thought that Trent would've done something like that as a firstie, but, whatevs.

  • This tune's got that Texas Chainsaw Massacre / Kalifornia style creepy atmosphere to it.

  • damn, that guitar at the end is just so badass!

  • I feel so depressed when I hear this song, but it feels good....

  • Check out our new NIN remix. We use this in part of it.

  • The first half gives me chills.

  • That ending.... it's more haunting than the static sound at the end of Hurt. No other album has left me feeling so bare and stripped down.

  • This quote is what this song makes me think of: Dolores told me she...she had an insect living inside her brain. She could feel it clicking across her skull, just...pulling the wires, just for fun. She told me that. She told me that but I didn't listen.

  • This is sooo beautiful , it's like something dragging you down more and more in the dark .

  • The end...coolest f***ing sound I ever heard!

  • Most disturbing end to an album I've ever heard. Makes Hurt look upbeat in my mind.

  • Always have visions of the Tales From The Dark Side opening when i listen to this.

  • Hey, I'm a troll. I cried.

  • The Fragile kind of felt like a mess, but then this song came on and I was like, Oh, I get it! Everything on the album strangely seems to come togather on Ripe With Decay.

  • awesome song

  • I know Mike Garson did some piano in this album, and the sound has a very Mike Garson sound to it. Does anyone know which songs he played, and if this is one of them?

  • @90sAlternative "Just Like You Imagined", "The Way Out is Through", and "Ripe (With Decay)" all are Mike Garson.

  • As a sane, well-rounded, unmelodramatic person who also happens to like Nine Inch Nails, I feel marginalised by the torrents of pretentious bullshit that most NIN fans spew all over the internet.

  • Pity 'bout that. Deal.

  • @boiledelephant 2 apples from the same tree my man

  • @ThePawn666 It's more like 2 apples from different trees that had the misfortune to land in the same orchard. And one of the apples cuts the lettters 'NIN' into itself and refuses to talk to apples who don't think like it and gradually recedes into itself and pierces itself and finally snaps and kills bananas with a tiny machine gun, claiming that Nine Inch Nails told it to do it.

  • @boiledelephant thats just funny

  • @boiledelephant I see what you mean. The media's/public's worship for things are often with childish act of idolizing successful musicians . But please don't attempt to tell me that you, at one time, was not inspired to follow the footsteps of one individual in the way of thinking. Let it be that everyone else idolizes Trent Reznor and keep solidly in your mind that you oppose the way people oftentimes go over the bridge with the hyperbole of how "connected" they are to the artist.

  • @NIN99Koala True, I have been there - not individual artists, perhaps, but I've worshipped particular bands and films to an unhealthy degree. But it was bad for me, in retrospect. I feel compelled to tell people they're being stupid about it, taking it too seriously, because I really wish someone had told me the same thing back when I was seventeen.

By idolizing and obsessing over artists, you set yourself up for disappointment, because they can't and won't care about you in the same way.

  • @boiledelephant perhaps, but bands that are good dont put thier heart and souls into thier fans, they put it into thier music, which the fans then hear, and thats why they idolize these bands. If you were to look at the bands people who listen to this music tend to dislike, all of those artists, gaga, jb, rebecca black, theres no heart and osul there, only sex appeal, and the fans eat that up with gravy.

  • @boiledelephant I feel the same way about your comment.

  • @jameson63926 That makes very little sense. Feel free to elaborate in plain English.

  • @boiledelephant Well, art doesn't need your big-words. I can define unmelodramatic and pretentious, but I can define simplistic art that allows me to daydream a little bit more. I dislike trolls and would rather see intresting theories on a song than a spiteful comment going against the current of all the poetic mindsets.

  • @NIN99Koala Don't confuse dissent for trolling. It's a mistake that will doom your progress in discourse outside of the internet.

  • @boiledelephant Sorry, bro. I did laugh at that. Your kind of up-tight, it may seem... Not that I know you in real life, and don't count on it that I will, but it seems that you don't know too much of "not" overthinking... Just chill and don't comment so hastily, because I can't help myself but mock you for pure fun if you do.

  • @NIN99Koala Don't mistake eloquence for effort, either. You'll burden yourself with the constant impression that people are trying as hard as you when you're actually just in the wrong league.

  • @NIN99Koala Don't poop in a shoe & throw a dragonfly at a bum. Eat fish, not bricks, & always wash behind your tusks. Words of disadvice.

  • @xXSilentHillerXx Yes, thats the one! What you said was profane. I'll laugh until my head comes off or swallow until I- until I burst. Go sell your snakeoil for train tickets. Tickets out of here. Out OF HERE. Stop it you muppet. Fucking fraggle.

  • @NIN99Koala Just the rise I was looking for. Kudos to self!

  • @boiledelephant If your sane, well -rounded, and unmelodramatic then WHAT THE FUCK are you doing listening to Nine Inch Nails - The Fragile Album?? This album is all about falling the fuck a part man... jesus its ppl like you that think they're somehow better then some one who suffers are usually lying and/or major Douche Bags

  • @StickyInADarkBlueCut Actually, I just enjoy it for the music. I think it's good music. But enjoy it in whatever way maximizes the experience for you, I think that's very important.

And lighten up, man, really. You're yelling at people over the internet. Something has gone awry.

  • @boiledelephant No weed earlier.,,,, Now with weed I still stand by what I said Just reading your previous arguments on this video made me think you were a fucktard, but like you said this is the internet and you could be some billy bad ass witha hot ass gf and lots of money soooo .. yeah. Congratulations

  • @StickyInADarkBlueCut You're half-right, but I'm not proud. I think pride is a negative character trait.

Anyway, my arguments on here were just idle banter really; like a lot of people on the net, I argue for the sport and the exchange of ideas and opinions rather than to genuinely express myself. Being disingenuous is the only proper response to anonymous interactions, you'd have to be stupid to throw your honest, bare self onto the internet.

    Not that that stops people.

  • @boiledelephant i'm gonna raise my kids to be like you 'boiledelephant'.

  • @Bostonian91 How did you even notice my comments on here, they were months ago, were you reading the entire feed?

  • @boiledelephant well you see i have very little to do these days, so i roam around youtube searching for role models for my children who haven't been born for yet. We all have hobbies :)

  • @Bostonian91 Well, yes, but I try to find hobbies that don't destroy my faith in humanity :p

  • @boiledelephant haha i should probably try fishing or something.

  • @Bostonian91 Rubik's Cube. The last hobby you'll ever need :)

I'm liking this comment feed, every time I get a new reply it gives me an excuse to listen to the song again \o/

  • @StickyInADarkBlueCut sir just to clear things up we are all fucking insane. we are all crazy. even the so called "normal" people are crazy because they are still brainwashed by a society that makes them do what they think is the right thing. they go about their rituals everyday thinking at least im not a nut case and im smart and not retarded. turns out their more insane and retarded than the so called insane people. :)

  • this song makes me think back to being a child and all the half faded visions that permeate my brain ....getting older makes life seem meaningless....i miss being 3 feet i miss playing in the backyard by myself with the sun shining just thinking ....that was life..i guess

  • even though its an instrumental, this is one of my favorite songs.

  • i think that Ripe is from 0:00 to 4:39 and Decay is from 4:42 to 6:34

  • this is pure art..you hear what you want to hear.he left the door open for interpretation.hear what you will.its up to you music fans.

  • This song makes me think of a bad cocaine comedown.

  • epic

  • I love how the crackling noise is exactly how you would imagine a beetle scratching around on the inside of your skull would sound.

  • or a fire burning what s left of you insides and you are just left with an empty burnt shell filled with ash.... :|

  • @AbysmalZero

  • @Forthias me too

  • @AbysmalZero thats happening to me now!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • it ends like

    "ho here comes other song"

is a really beutiful song but ends so suddenly :(

  • the ending is epic though like,

hella shit just went down but

we are all done with that.

  • listenin to this lookin out my window at the yellow and red trees, sprinkling outside in autumn... 10 in the morning... alone... isolation is an ugly/beautiful trip losing sanity everyday

    to me it is beautiful

  • i like your image, but i get a feeling of night time and a red moon near a burning house alone just watching the flames.

  • @xpaperhearts

I know what you mean. Combined with "friends" leaving when things get too hard, isolation is quite orgasmic.

  • @xpaperhearts look at your coment 2 years later!

  • @xpaperhearts alone..... sea....11:00 pm my brain is damaged...

  • pure genius once again 4 trent and his team...nin will neva be like this again...
