@PenguinKommando Hi, pots can be found on local nurseries (some), but better chance if you can find Bonsai Nurseries (or even on Ebay!). Which plants to use? well you better get a book, they will suggest which are the classic plants to use. And once you are comfortable working with those, you can start experimenting on other plants (like me)
@freddchen1231 man, I have so many books in mind. II would recommend go to the public library, and just browse in gardening section and get any Bonsai books (preferably one with lots of pictures). Now, if want something little bit more intermediate to advance level, I would recommend:The Living Art of Bonsai: Principles & Techniques of Cultivation & Propagation, Amy Liang
@tvgirlnyc Sure, if the plant is healthy, this is no big deal. In fact, I could have even taken more roots off (and also cut off more leaves). by the way, the tree is doing nicely after 4 month, will post an update when i get enough footage
@godzilar35 depend on the design of the tree, most trees look more natural and interesting when it is NOT centered in the pot, but for this particular plant, centering it looks better don't you think?? :)
Okay I had a question, I am growing my own bonsai, same as that one, so its completely okay to cut its roots and prune it and everything all in one day? or do i wait in between pruning and repotting? and is the mesh just placed inside with wires attached? its not resting on anything?
@CaraSophia yeah! I would recomend you do everything in one day, less suffering for the plant. Also, the idea is to secure the mesh anyway you can, and separately, also secure the Wire (so you can tie the rootball down) anyway you can. In this video I just happened to use the wire to secure the mesh to the pot, and at the same time to secure the plant to the pot, you don't have to do that.
@TheBonsaiStudent okay and the plants really are okay with disrupting their roots? okay great thanks alot! your videos are very helpful! I've always loved these special little trees! and I absolutely need drainage holes right? even if i put larger rocks at the bottom?
@CaraSophia a healthy plant can take lots of "disruption", but only once in a while. That is why it is better to do it all at once. Drainage hole are really important, not only to let the water out, but also for the roots to "breath", don't do without it.
@greenleaflink Boxwood can tolerate all the way down to 0 F!! I think they will survive in Canadian Winter (I had never tried it). But I would think that when growing in a bonsai pot, it is best to give it some kind of protection during Winter time.
I also love the roots on this boxwood. I think most of the boxwood varieties produce excellent nebari, from what I have see anyway. Very nice specimen.
hello, i just wanted to say i thoroughly enjoy watching your videos you have such a calmness about you that i envy!

Just wondering, can you grow a bonsai like this in Canada? Can you leave it in the pot outside during the winter? or will that kill it?
