  • the cadets um... already did this...

  • @M3ssageT4k3n Santa Clara Vanguard did Phantom of the Opera 2 years in a row. Doesn't matter. And I'm pretty sure Cadets didn't do that show anyway...just Banished, kinda...

  • The revision is great! More people should listen to that one, too....

  • LOVE the Conquest shots at 5:55!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • Sheet music... want. lol

  • very cool. just work on the battery parts a little bit and this could be a really great show

  • This has been my dream, for a drum corp to do a Lion King show... this is fantastic my good man. excellent job, for real.

  • i'm a percussionist so its hard for me to hear the winds in their actual sounds but that battery book is sick!! nice work, man!

  • This has Cadets written all over it.

  • this is AMAZING. i am seriously interested in getting my band director to do something like this next marching season. :D

  • Just listened to the revision link. This is one of the most beautifully scored Disney films of all time and you did great with it

I know it's hard to do with software, but I'd want the closing portion from the ~9:15 mark to ~10:00 to be more rubato and lead into the dramatic finish (Simba scaling Pride Rock ... sorry, don't remember the tune name offhand).

Otherwise, this sounds incredible and gives me the same chills I feel when I watch the film.

    Experience: MS/HS/college bands - 1988-2000

  • I showed my friend who does front line/pit percussion for marching band and he fell in love. Great job. Much kudos.

  • harmonic:)

  • YES!!!! Omgosh, that was so insane! I can tell you already that if word gets out about that, that more drummers are going to see this and flip off the walls. That ending literally just made my year...too bad it is going to end though XD

But in all seriousness, that was really cool. Fantastic job adding in Banished Beyond. I wouldn't be surprised if he made a respond video to you ;)

Thank you so much for your geniusness in arranging XD

  • @nitwit1sjf Thanks, man! I love getting feedback like this! If you want, you can check out a newer revision. I posted a new link in the description.

  • I absolutely ADORE the marimba and the battery bass in I just can't wait to be king

  • I just love the marimba parts in general <3

  • @q2080 Thanks! The Lion King has a ton of sweet mallet parts in it.

  • The interaction of the voices is awesome, but the I think that there could have been more going on in the battery and more dynamic contrast.

Consider shortening the intro, and instead of keeping the songs square, get some counterpoint going on with melodic lines from different songs.

  • @bandie1909 Thanks for the feedback, man!

  • INCREDIBLE! i look forward to hearing more arrangements from you

  • @PayneKrunk Thanks!

  • Good job. Funny, I actually had this idea awhile ago and my corps mates shot it down. I can see why now. I liked the intro and you had some tasty battery licks in there, but after the show just nose dive for me. Personally I would've not done the cheesy Disney songs like Just Can't wait to Be King and Hakuna Matata and included a little more of Hans Zimmer's music. Liked the work you did with Be Prepared but the tempo could be faster and added a salsa character to it. But otherwise good job.

  • @trumpetfruzia I tried to balance Hans Zimmer with the classic tunes that everyone knows, but yeah, I know what you mean. And I did speed up Be Prepared in a recent revision of mine; however, I'm not sure how a salsa character could really fit. Thanks for your comments!

  • Nice job! I thought the solo around 6:50 could be turned into a duet. You have a lot of solos in here, but not a lot of duets. Just a thought! Otherwise, good work.

  • @SweetlyDissonant Thanks for the critique! Yeah, now that I listen back, I see what you're saying.

  • that's awsome !

can you share the score sheet please ? ><

  • @RoNM214 Thanks! Maybe I'll release the score in the future. I have to clean it up first; right now it's awfully messy, haha.

  • overall nneds more dynamics. drum corps is ALL about dynamics. you know that beautiful softness and then turning around and blowing your face off with a FFF impact. and i get its hard to have alot of dynamic variety on finale i write myself. but good overall

  • @johnr224960 Thanks! I hear what you're saying about dynamics, and I really need to wrestle with Sibelius to get what I want.

  • i would also like to kno a way to get a copy of this :)

  • I think you did a really good job with the whole thing as a whole. Now, I do have to be honest, I don't think I heard the "Banished Beyond Lion king drumline" part in there. Not saying that is a bad thing or anything, but that would be freaking AMAZING if was incorporated in there.

    ;)

But that's just me and all the other drumline peoples out there. But fantastic job!

  • @nitwit1sjf I've recently revised the show to contain a new ending with Banished Beyond's lick. (: Check out the description.

  • Not too bad. "Be Prepared" was a bit slow but overall not bad.

  • @drwcubs Thanks, man! I sped up Be Prepared a little bit in the latest revision, but I may focus a little more on it later.

  • 3:00-4:00 was AWESOME

  • @REISHNAVIC haha, thanks!

  • If you made this on like a music writing program can you print me off the battery score by any chance? I'd love to record this and possibly help with anything that's shaky, but this sounds freaking amazing! Nice work!

  • @snlman22 Thanks! I can't print off the battery score right now, but I may work with you as I continually modify the show.

  • I do think you can use a little less drumline in the ballad though

  • @Jazzylicieux Thanks! I'm still debating whether I should keep the drumline in the ballad, but I kinda like the power behind it.

  • Very well written! I wish we could march this very same show next year. I especially love the way you wrote drumline!

  • how much would you be willing to sell this arrangement for?

  • @KRTHclassicalIMSLP I don't think I want to sell this, and I don't know if I can legally sell it either, haha. But if you're still interested, contact me.

  • send this too a group its so awesome

  • can you possibly send me the can you feel the love tonight to me? I WOULD LOVE IT SO MUCH. but really could you please contact me about it,thanks.

  • damn.... u sure do love those tonal bass drums

  • @oragami94 probably cause I play those tonal bass drums.. haha.

  • You truly are the king of pride rock

  • @WhyIDrum haha, why thank you!

  • I really like a lot of the writing. I just adore the entire horn book, and everything you did with the pit worked really well (pit is not my area of knowledge, so it would be unfair to comment on it). However, a lot of the writing (especially in the opener) for the battery sounded very similar and became a little tedious, especially as the show wore on. Make sure to add plenty of contrast in the kinds of rhythms you use. Make it musical. (:

  • @F3ARMUFFS thanks for your feedback! I agree, I did rush the writing of some of the battery parts..

  • @jolivermn could you email me either the whole battery book or the tenor and snare parts and maybe the timpani part if there is one

  • oh my god this will amazing if they use this in a show

  • @GAMERX108 thanks!

  • so much chills

  • @MoustacheCloud thanks, that's what I aim for!

  • Good job brutha! Awesome stuff.

  • @Rocketfire81 thanks, man!

  • really thought he was gonna end it with banished

  • @BrothaNBlue2 Check out the revision in the description!

  • dude battery part at 1:41. TITS bro.

  • @cheath432 haha, thanks man. That was actually an accident when I typed it into Sibelius, but it turned out pretty sweet, so I kept it.

  • @jolivermn what midi playback files are you using?

  • @suazobomber I'm not sure I understand what you're asking. I used Sibelius 6 and the sounds that came with Sibelius (plus some Virtual Drumline samples).

  • Would you be willing to put the sheet music up for this ?I wanna learn it

  • @sarburst2501 Since I'm considering rewriting the show, I'm not going to post the sheet music. Sorry.. if you want a specific part, I may be able to send it to you.

  • @jolivermn Well, in that case if you do consider rewriting would you put it up then?

  • @sarburst2501 yes, probably. but that will is not likely to happen in the near future.. I'm quite busy and a bit overburdened with band and school.

  • I thought the beginning could've been softer, then crescendo to the big hit at 00:54, but I love this. You did a real great job.

  • @mbmaccin555555 thanks, man! I love the feedback!

  • Look up Banished Beyond's Lion King Lick. It's some pretty badass stuff.

  • @NoahMAngott yeah, check out the revision in the description!

  • @jolivermn I'd love to help you with the percussion through the whole thing if you'd let me. It's got a solid foundation, but could use a little more work.

  • In specifics, I have the full Tapspace Virtual Drumline, along with Cubase. I could give the battery a whole new sound (it's what Banished Beyond used at the end), without losing any of the current parts.

  • @jolivermn god dammit where the lion king lick comes in in the revised version is WRVBJNWERBJNAOPFKNMGBPAOENJFGBOPNMAQERP;OMAQPWR;JNGQKLNJEIKPNJAQERPBJNK!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!1

  • @suazobomber haha, thanks? If you'd like, check out the latest revision. I put a new link in the description today.

  • Wow! EXCELLENT transition into the stampede scene. You've got a future in drum corps writing sir.

  • @kaseyWtrumpet Thanks, man! I love the critique!

  • This is a very solid show! I really like the pieces you choose and how you decided to put them together. However, just a couple things: there was definitely some incorrect pitches in a couple of the softer spots in the beginning of each new selection of music. Your percussion parts were spectacular though! (And before you wonder, who am I to say that, I have marched for 14 seasons in various ensembles including a DCI and DCA Corps and high school and college marching bands.)

  • @uchisted11 Please note that this an arrangement, which means each note doesn't have to be their verbatim. As far as the the beginning of the each song those are modulations into the new song. You're probably hearing a funky key change in there.

  • @kaseyWtrumpet correct. I tried to minimize key changes, but for my own sake I typically kept the key of the original song.

  • @uchisted11 Thanks! I'll double check for bad pitches!

  • I so would have loved to write the brass score for this... haha

  • I so would have loved to write the battery score for this haha
