Neil Young and Bryan Adams are the only Artists I can recognize in this video. Wish they had subtitles so we can identify who is whom. The song though, sounds more like a fast food breakfast commercial. Oh there's Corey Hart and then Geddy Lee.
Bryan Adams pretty much owns this video. And THAT is something I never thought I would say. lol! with a side helping of Corey Hart who was also awesome!
Easily comparable to the American song Do they Know it's Christmas made under similar circumstances. LIke the american song, I'd love to see an updated version of this song with current canadian artists.
@TheCharacterActor Oh sure they would. In an instant, I think. What's interesting today is that pop artists have huge audiences on every continent including Africa.
@TheCharacterActor And I respectfully disagree with you. They would support this cause on top of the many causes they support already. I think it's good news that these two very young pops stars are setting a great example for their peers and for fans by funding and illuminating many causes and setting up charitable foundations. I wouldn't say that about Britney or Xtina, but these two are genuinely philanthropic, and would jump at a chance like this.

What a fantastic blast from the past! The cut with the hockey players and crowd was done at the NHL All-Star game practice in Calgary in February of 1985. I was there, and we had to wave for what seemed forever to get it right. The song still gives me a lump in my throat.

@Sloppify what is wrong with you? are you canadian? the greatest canadian artists came together to help the less fortunate, something you wouldnt see today....
I, for one, am proud to be canadian and this is why i say: Vive le Canada!
Wow - I loved this when it came out.....more than We are the World.....which got way overplayed! Looking back at it, I remember everyone!!!! Love the 80's fashions!
For whoever it was that asked about the "black women" they are Salome Bey and Liberty Silver - both FANTASTIC Canadian artist!!!
I was a teenage when these project was recorded. Years later, I can appreciate the great voices of the artists that came together to help Africa & the world at that time. Thank you then and now Canada.
This song gives me chills after all of these years. I love how people just keep adding up in the video until they form a choir. This song's always had such an impact on me. I was so happy when I was able to buy a 45 of it (living in the U.S.) And cheers for getting Neil Young and Joni Mitchell in Canada to do this.)
This song still gives me chills, more so than the U.S. version, for some reason. Anyway, now I know for certain who is singing which parts. i was so happy when I was able to buy an import of this in '85. The video seems really impact-full as the number of people on screen continues to grow. (And cheers to whomever for getting Young and Mitchell back in Canada for this song!)
When Foster told Neil Young that he was " a little flat" Young leaned into the mike and said " that's my style, man"... made everyone fall over laughing...
This was during the Famine In Ethopia crisis, where hundreds of musicians got together & collobarated "Tears Are Not Enough", "We Are The World", & "Do They Know It's Christmas", some classic tunes at the time.
listening to this song just now gives me goosebumps!☺ its meaning is STILL ALIVE up to this very day...esp. after Japan tragedy.....a classic on its own ☻
Tears are not enough is better than We are the World. That song fills with meaningful songs and melody created by Bryan Adams and arranged by David Foster. Genius works!
wow i remember this song..and this song is so true for today and not just for Africa..but for all that is going on in the World today....I am in the USA but so many wonderful artists on this..wow corey hart ;P

One of things I liked best about this song (compared to the US & UK efforts) was that each singer's line reflected their distinct style and voice. Even without watching the video, you can clearly recognize almost all of the singers -- there's no mistaking voices like those of Lightfoot, Murray, Mitchell, Young, Hart, Adams, Lee, etc.
In comparison, the US & UK songs somewhat homogenized the singers: only those having really distinct voices, like Boy George & Michael Jackson, are distinguishable.
As you know, there is Japan in the critical situation by the damage by an earthquake disaster and the tsunami now. The support from Canada gives a Japanese citizen including the victim big courage very gratefully.
We show the greatest respect and thanks to a great Canadian!!
@chorker2002 Both Canada and the world are thinking about and praying for all of you :). Gambatte Japan. God Bless you and all of Japan and it's people. We love you all.
I recognized Geddy, Bryan, Gordon, Neil, Anne, Joni, Mike (Loverboy), Burton, Corey, Dan Hill, maybe Bobby Kimball (Toto) and Aldo. Not sure who the others are.
Gordon Lightfoot...Bruce Cockburn...Joni Mitchell...Neil Young...Leonard Cohen...and Canada's all-star song was written by - Bryan Adams??! well none of those first five would have come up with such a derivative piece of crap as this anyway.
I actually heard this on the radio on the way home tonight. Having been 9 years old at it's conception I was more concerned with Corey Hart and the guy from Platinum Blonde...lol. Tonight I heard Geddy and in my head I was thinking..."So that's who that was!!"
Thanks to my good friends who sat me down in their living room with continuous Rush concerts on DVD. You know who you are ;)
@Mushashjuanna Yeah, I checked the list after I posted it, I actually know most of the artists, I just didn't know how they looked. I'm only a teenager so I guess it's excusable, I'm mad because I didn't recognize Neil Young's voice.
@orlandobabe "C'est l'amour qui nous rassemble d'ici à l'autre bout du monde"...which means "It's love that brings us together from here to the other side of the world".
@orlandobabe "It's love that we all have in common/that unites us (not sure which because it's hard to detect when singing), from here to the other end of the world"... something along those lines
Love all the artists-especially Anne Murray, Lightfoot, Joni Mitchell, Corey Hart & Bryan Adams. We should be proud of ALL Canadian artists and stop putting any of them down
I'll save people a lot of time even more poor efforts at sarcasm...lol
Google "Tears are not enough" and Wiki will lead you to the performers list....you'll be surprised who was there.

I am Japanese one encouraged by this music.
As you know, there is Japan in the critical situation by the damage by an earthquake disaster and the tsunami now. The support from Canada gives a Japanese citizen including the victim big courage very gratefully.
We show the greatest respect and thanks to a great Canadian!!

Gordon Lightfoot...Bruce Cockburn...Joni Mitchell...Neil Young...Leonard Cohen...and Canada's all-star song was written by - Bryan Adams??! well none of those first five would have come up with such a derivative piece of crap as this anyway.

By far the best of the three national songs written about this topic. Very powerful. OH Canada! Truly, from an American.

Unfortunately, the only person I recognized was Geddy Lee, I want to know everyone's name..
riff5fki 11 months ago
@riff5fki Wikepedia has the full list.
You know who you are ;)
Mushashjuanna 11 months ago
@Mushashjuanna Yeah, I checked the list after I posted it, I actually know most of the artists, I just didn't know how they looked. I'm only a teenager so I guess it's excusable, I'm mad because I didn't recognize Neil Young's voice.

The French translation is:
It is love that gathers us togethor (C’est l’amour qui nous rassemble)
Here ? Other side of the world. (D’ici ? l’autre bout du monde).
I'm bilingual, and have worked in French

@orlandobabe "C'est l'amour qui nous rassemble d'ici à l'autre bout du monde"...which means "It's love that brings us together from here to the other side of the world".

@orlandobabe "It's love that we all have in common/that unites us (not sure which because it's hard to detect when singing), from here to the other end of the world"... something along those lines
