  • I'll save people a lot of time even more poor efforts at sarcasm...lol

Google "Tears are not enough" and Wiki will lead you to the performers list....you'll be surprised who was there.

  • WHO ARE THESE PEOPLE.

  • Geddy Lee my friends!

  • Neil Young and Bryan Adams are the only Artists I can recognize in this video. Wish they had subtitles so we can identify who is whom. The song though, sounds more like a fast food breakfast commercial. Oh there's Corey Hart and then Geddy Lee.

  • precisamos ajudar o povo mineiro que precisa de nós, é hora de nossa solidariedade enrtrar em ação....

  • Mike Reno, I know you sold lots of records, but I don't think everyone appreciates your incredible vocalism. Something special.

  • 19 people don't give a f--k about the crisis in Africa.

  • Who is the woman singing with Mike Reno? Thanks.

  • @Harmonlisa Liberty Silver

  • @Harmonlisa Her stage name was Liberty Silver. At the time she was an up and coming Soul/R&B artist. Not sure what happened to her career after this.

  • BlackSoth- Do they know it's Christmas was done by British & Irish musicians.

  • Easily comparable to the American song Do they Know it's Christmas made under similar circumstances. LIke the american song, I'd love to see an updated version of this song with current canadian artists.

  • Gaga, Bieber and most performers today would not do such a thing today.

  • @TheCharacterActor Oh sure they would. In an instant, I think. What's interesting today is that pop artists have huge audiences on every continent including Africa.

  • @pcorrigan1 I mean Gaga and Bieber would not help the cause as Northern lights did,

  • @TheCharacterActor And I respectfully disagree with you. They would support this cause on top of the many causes they support already. I think it's good news that these two very young pops stars are setting a great example for their peers and for fans by funding and illuminating many causes and setting up charitable foundations. I wouldn't say that about Britney or Xtina, but these two are genuinely philanthropic, and would jump at a chance like this.

  • @pcorrigan1 Lets just wait and see, , , , ,

  • Bruce Cockburn's part is too short.

  • Understand why Everyone is doing this...

  • yes please lets help people all over the world. They deserve our love and support especially over the holidays. What ever we do...we must continue to rape our 1st nations ppl, like those in Attawapiskat in order to save the 3rd world 20000 kms away.

  • Merry Christmas from Hamilton, Ontario, Canada!!!

  • YOU SHOULD BE ASHAMED.

  • so i know who Bryan Adams and Neil young and Corey hart are so who are the rest

  • @My96XJ

    opps.

you dont know gordon lightfood, joni mitchell or anne murray?

on which planet did you live?

must be far beyond the moon...

  • Makes me proud to be Canadian, eh?

  • @onlyrock1 meh. They did it because the uk and the usa did it first

  • @sudburylawyer I'm proud because it's the best, and because of our talent. Not because it was first. Real country spirit there Sudbury.

  • of all the benefit videos that were done back in the 80's, the canadian one is the only one where the musicians don't have to read their lines from a page in front of them :)

  • @fark13 That's because we're professionals, eh!

  • 2:13...Geddy Lee rocks it!!

  • The two singers that I thought was the best and moved me the most was Anne Murray and Bryan Adams..Anyone else agree?

  • "Is there going to be food? Not for Africa but for the performers?"

  • @animefangirlxx LOLOLO..HAHAHAHA...Now that's funny...But seriously, I don't think they look all that bad.

  • @GTnumber1 lol I quoted that from the 22 minutes parody

  • Beers are not enough.

  • @Nomoreidsleft hahahha

  • This hour has 22 minutes Christmas special brought me here. Click thumbs up if you seen this on 22 minutes.

  • @VoxRox1 Yeah, it was hilarious!

  • @VoxRox1 They did this on "22 Minutes"? When did they do that? I must have missed that.

  • @bluebear1985 It was on this past Tuesday,Id say CBC will air it again before Chirstmas is over,if not check on demand on your cable company receiver.

  • @VoxRox1 FREE BEER IS NOT ENOUGH!!

  • @Jackoosh1 It’s on their website now, you can watch it online now. I believe the song is after the third commercial.

  • @VoxRox1 that show is the biggest cancer this country has ever seen , no class losers making fun of real people , not funny , nuff said

  • @garryicebergson1 OK,thanks for expressing your disgust, But celebraties themselves have even endorsed satires or spoofs, they find it very flattering.

  • Greatest... never more tears for any child..

  • By the way, is that Eugene Levy from American Pie at the end? lol

  • I have to stand up for Canada... no matter what, people all over the world respect Canadians... even the Americans who go around disguised with Canadian flags when they travel ;)

  • @snowwpea "So true...my family who are American who are not born Canadian do this as well as friends in the states...and I am from Canada....can't blame them these days....

  • LOL I haven't heard this since I was a kid. Hilarious collection of pure Canadiana - displays the vastness of our great country. Love when Mike Reno of Loverboy rips it out haha!

  • I'm singing this in my school PYP Exhibition.. :D

  • by far the best song of the three put out

  • @Dyro686868 I would argue that I think that all 3 are good in fact I put this one 3rd sorry

  • 2011 and we are no further ahead then when this was done in 1985. How sad is that as a human race

  • It would have been better if they dumped the french shit.

  • @HELLH0WND I guess they wanted to make it more Canadian by adding a couple of lines in French, considering that's our other official language.

  • Go Geddy Lee, rip that microphone!

  • Don't forget Joni Mitchell at 0:42!!!

  • As a proud American, I have to say that I've always thought that this song runs circles around "We are the World".

  • the kings of this country should start raising inuits and the first nations everybody should know why canada cares its because canada origanial people respect everyone we know inuit have been pulling together we are the first peace keepers we all must come together as one

  • I used to tingle all the sound of composite singers coming together to aid in causes like poverty and famine...too bad the situations have really changed little despite their best efforts...

  • You know you're a bad Canadian when you recognize only 4 people.

  • Hey LeCutter, you know what is really funny,it's Americans. They are like that that idiot neighbor that walks around like a big shot and is too stupid to realize that everyone knows he's broke. Anyway, pretty soon either the Chinese are going to repossess your asses or you'll have to sell your tourist attractions to make ends meet.Canada might put a bid on the Grand Canyon but otherwise there is nothing in your country of retards that would further us.

  • LOL! Canada is funny. It's like that loser relative who thinks they're way more important than they are.

  • @LeCutter At least we are a proud nation, from coast to coast ! We call ourselves Canadians and not Americans ; )

  • What a fantastic blast from the past! The cut with the hockey players and crowd was done at the NHL All-Star game practice in Calgary in February of 1985. I was there, and we had to wave for what seemed forever to get it right. The song still gives me a lump in my throat.

  • thumbs up if you saw this just for Geddy Lee

  • 2:13 That is all.

  • This was the best of the charity records made in the mid-80's. It's funny how they have 2 token lines of French in there just to make it bilingual and more Canadian. :-)

  • legit. this needs more veiws

  • Bryan Adams was really hot

  • Not enough Neil and Geddy

  • Of course the hockey team is in a Canadian video.

    Excellent :)

  • Neil Young looks fucking scary at 2:26

  • @KillingJoke696 NEIL YOUNG LOOKS LIKE A NIGGER

  • Wow...you know, I just came here from watching the making of Do They Know Its Christmas and aside from Bono, Sting, Sir Paul and possibly Duran Duran and Boy George - the true STAR power + talent level of the the Canadian gathering is insanely better. Just in the first 50 seconds: Lightfoot, Cummings, Ann and Joni. Then, BAM, Neil Young, Bryan Adams, Geddy, Hawkins and Cockburn...COME ON...that's insane enough at the international level. Imagine we added the last 27 years worth as well!

  • I love Canada! Especially the great musicians you have that has touched our lives in music! I send out warm greatings to our friends to the north! :-)

  • geddy lee rocks!

  • Sorry, but watching this makes me think of

the "Let's the Chickens Be" sketch on SNL that

featured Michael Bolton....Phil Hartman played Kenny Rogers

and Jan Hooks played Diana Ross.

  • I love Canada for Africa forever... I was in junior high in 1985... and still love this song and all artist until now...

  • Excellent song and well done Canada . I can still like the UK one tho even tho I'm Canadian , lol .

  • doggone it! i still can't watch this or listen to it without my eyes tearing up.

  • @matedog2 You don't recognize Gordon Lightfoot, Burton Cummings, or Bruce Cockburn? Do you presume to call yourself Canadian?

  • @PSzymeczek No, I'm from the US. Those names are all familiar, but I have no idea what they look like or am able to name a song of theirs off the top of my head.

  • @matedog2 You're either extremely young, extremely provincial, or both.

  • @PSzymeczek

More of the extremely provincial. That and Canada jokes are easy.

  • Why it is that some of the big names like Ian Thomas, Frank Mills or Baron Longfellow (Andy Kim) never got solos, but Don Gerrard of Skylark did. Oh wait, the song was produced by David Foster, who was in Skylark with Gerrard. I see how it is. Nevermind :D

Still a fantastic song, and always makes me proud to be a Canadian when I hear it.

  • Sloppify if you are Canadian then you are the embarrassment.

  • LOVERBOY.. FUCKIN EH!!

    :P

  • Geddy Lee is the Cindy Lauper part for this. He's the greatest vocalist standing ont this planet.

  • This shit is embarrassing.

  • @Sloppify what is wrong with you? are you canadian? the greatest canadian artists came together to help the less fortunate, something you wouldnt see today....

I, for one, am proud to be canadian and this is why i say: Vive le Canada!

  • WOW. this was 100 years ago & counting....

  • Back then, it seems headphones wouldn't stay on unless you held them on with your hands.

Joking aside, wonderful song by a bunch of excellent artists. Geddy Lee should have had a bigger part though.

  • @thegreatdaveo for sure. The geddy lee parts my fave!

  • Wow - I loved this when it came out.....more than We are the World.....which got way overplayed! Looking back at it, I remember everyone!!!! Love the 80's fashions!

For whoever it was that asked about the "black women" they are Salome Bey and Liberty Silver - both FANTASTIC Canadian artist!!!

  • I was a teenage when these project was recorded. Years later, I can appreciate the great voices of the artists that came together to help Africa & the world at that time. Thank you then and now Canada.

  • This song gives me chills after all of these years. I love how people just keep adding up in the video until they form a choir. This song's always had such an impact on me. I was so happy when I was able to buy a 45 of it (living in the U.S.) And cheers for getting Neil Young and Joni Mitchell in Canada to do this.)

  • This song still gives me chills, more so than the U.S. version, for some reason. Anyway, now I know for certain who is singing which parts. i was so happy when I was able to buy an import of this in '85. The video seems really impact-full as the number of people on screen continues to grow. (And cheers to whomever for getting Young and Mitchell back in Canada for this song!)

  • A classic, I miss those times.

CBC made a making of documentary, I wish it was still available for purchase.

  • When Foster told Neil Young that he was " a little flat" Young leaned into the mike and said " that's my style, man"... made everyone fall over laughing...

  • It was all great from all the nations!I personally thought"Stars"blew them all out of the water!

  • i've always wondered why they named the group "northern lights" when the whole project was put together and recorded way down south in toronto.

  • @vladtepes97 Silly as it may seem, I'm guessing it was based on an America-centric theme, with Canada being the northern light of North America.

  • @thegreatdaveo they need to get their geography sorted out. southern lights would have been a more accurate name.

  • Fun to see some of the background folks, like Eugene Levy and John Candy, as well as Paul Shaffer.

  • GEDDY!

  • We miss you Anne Murray!

  • isn't that Joni Mitchell? not even mentioned in the info.

there was another all-French version of an emergency-aid song back then. (was it for Bangladesh?) anyone help my memory to find it?

  • yes, tears never forever,

  • great song, it was only meant to go #1..Questions, now:

Who is the black women lady in the video at 1:10 ??

    &&&& who are the 2 people at 2:46 ??

&&& who is the trio (3) people at 3:05 ??

    thanks.

  • @10stanie some answers;

at 2:46, Bryan Adams is on the right

at 3:05, Mrk Holmes from Platinum Blonde in the centre, and Lorraine Segato from Parachute Club on the right.

I can't identify the ohters offhand.

  • BRYAN ADAMS!!!!

  • GREAT song even more than 25 years later! :-D

This was during the Famine In Ethopia crisis, where hundreds of musicians got together & collobarated "Tears Are Not Enough", "We Are The World", & "Do They Know It's Christmas", some classic tunes at the time.

  • I always wondered why they didn't allow Neil Young a second take.

  • proud to work in regina sasketchewan LOLLLL

  • Of course this song beats the USA for Africa, "We Are The World"

  • There's a a clip on YouTube somewhere where Bryan Adams did this at the Live Aid concert in Philadelphia. It sounds great.

  • listening to this song just now gives me goosebumps!☺ its meaning is STILL ALIVE up to this very day...esp. after Japan tragedy.....a classic on its own ☻

  • Tears are not enough is better than We are the World. That song fills with meaningful songs and melody created by Bryan Adams and arranged by David Foster. Genius works!

  • wow i remember this song..and this song is so true for today and not just for Africa..but for all that is going on in the World today....I am in the USA but so many wonderful artists on this..wow corey hart ;P

  • wow i remember this song..and this song is so true for today and not just for Africa..but for all that is going on in the World today....I am in the USA but so many wonderful artists on this

  • I am also proud to be Canadian when I listen to this great song. We are lucky to have Mr. David Foster on our side!

  • One of things I liked best about this song (compared to the US & UK efforts) was that each singer's line reflected their distinct style and voice. Even without watching the video, you can clearly recognize almost all of the singers -- there's no mistaking voices like those of Lightfoot, Murray, Mitchell, Young, Hart, Adams, Lee, etc.

In comparison, the US & UK songs somewhat homogenized the singers: only those having really distinct voices, like Boy George & Michael Jackson, are distinguishable.

  • THIS KICKS THE BALL OUT OF THE PARK C/O TO THE US SONG...............YEAH CANADA

  • i know USA africe groups from USA

  • I remember when this great song came out, The best of the Great White North...

  • BRYAN ADAMS!!!!

  • Burton Cummings rocks!

  • Everyone notice John Candy at 4.19! RIP John.

  • @johneamer

that's not John Candy, he's in the back and not very visible. Skip to 3:25 you'll just barely be able to see his head in the top left corner.

there's an alternate video where you can see him a lot better (watch?v=HVYPrnt2lI8)

skip to 6:46, you'll be able to tell it's him

  • @johneamer was he the one in the red sweater??

  • Bryan Adams has one of the sexiest voices I've ever heard!

  • canadian groups r great i don't know them well i from mexico

  • corey hart kills in this - well done young boy in the box!

  • 18 People Don't like real music by real musicians

  • Ok i recognised Geddy Lee, Bryan Adams and Neil Young.... no idea who anyone else is.

  • @lordcinturon If you don`t know Anne Murray or Joni Mitchell you don`t know much about music

  • @NOUNZYKRANZA ok yes i saw anne murray. true. I didn't recognise joni mitchell. Where is she?

  • @NOUNZYKRANZA nevermind .. i see her now.

  • @lordcinturon You don't recognize Gordon Lightfoot, Burton Cummings, or Bruce Cockburn? Are you ever a child!

  • Gordy Lightfoot ♥

  • Way to show em Anne Murray, you make us proud!

  • I am Japanese one encouraged by this music.

As you know, there is Japan in the critical situation by the damage by an earthquake disaster and the tsunami now. The support from Canada gives a Japanese citizen including the victim big courage very gratefully.

We show the greatest respect and thanks to a great Canadian!!

  • @chorker2002 Both Canada and the world are thinking about and praying for all of you :). Gambatte Japan. God Bless you and all of Japan and it's people. We love you all.

  • Machozi hayatoshi.

  • I just pressed because i just smoked northern lights. Too bad it's not spacin.

  • I recognized Geddy, Bryan, Gordon, Neil, Anne, Joni, Mike (Loverboy), Burton, Corey, Dan Hill, maybe Bobby Kimball (Toto) and Aldo. Not sure who the others are.

  • Horrible ! ! and so 80s.

  • @Freakster1970 no shit dumb ass! the only horrible thing is you!

  • @darkroad1 not as horrible as your favs list)

  • @Freakster1970 and yours is great why?

  • Gordon Lightfoot...Bruce Cockburn...Joni Mitchell...Neil Young...Leonard Cohen...and Canada's all-star song was written by - Bryan Adams??! well none of those first five would have come up with such a derivative piece of crap as this anyway.

  • By far the best of the three national songs written about this topic. Very powerful. OH Canada! Truly, from an American.

  • @MrGenXer what are the other two? i think i know one, but im not sure.

  • @NirobiQ We are The World by USA for Africa and Do They Know it's Christmas by Band Aid (British)

  • Unfortunately, the only person I recognized was Geddy Lee, I want to know everyone's name..

  • @riff5fki Wikepedia has the full list.

I actually heard this on the radio on the way home tonight. Having been 9 years old at it's conception I was more concerned with Corey Hart and the guy from Platinum Blonde...lol. Tonight I heard Geddy and in my head I was thinking..."So that's who that was!!"

Thanks to my good friends who sat me down in their living room with continuous Rush concerts on DVD. You know who you are ;)

  • @Mushashjuanna Yeah, I checked the list after I posted it, I actually know most of the artists, I just didn't know how they looked. I'm only a teenager so I guess it's excusable, I'm mad because I didn't recognize Neil Young's voice.

  • Can anyone translate that French part of the song?

  • @orlandobabe "It's love that we all have in common/that unites us (not sure which because it's hard to detect when singing), from here to the other end of the world"... something along those lines

  • @snowwpea Thank you so much! Are you French Canadian or Paris French?

  • @orlandobabe Neither :) I'm Portuguese

  • right about now, mike reno is "workin' (at burger king) for the weekend"! just kiddin' GO CANADA!

  • we are stars ..with dio was way better then all of them.

  • another gold medal performance!!!!

  • 1:53 - 1:59 = best part

  • YEAH THIS SONG BLEW THAT USA FOR AFRICA AWAY COMPLETELY ! :)

    love this song!

  • Love all the artists-especially Anne Murray, Lightfoot, Joni Mitchell, Corey Hart & Bryan Adams. We should be proud of ALL Canadian artists and stop putting any of them down

  • geddy lee kicks ass

  • Great song!

    3:52 I feel so old watching this :( ... Gretzky turned 50 on January 26, 2011.

  • I really love this video. It makes me feel so nice to see any famous Canadian in it, like John Candy, who is standing at th
