One little off-topic comment: Agree about the CMI foot ascender -- don't like it for 'working' a tree either ... because of its size, it is way too easy to scar the tree. However, for long 'all-air' climbs I prefer it because it stays on the rope better than the Pantin. Also, you don't really have to use your hand to release or engage it. You can use your other boot to operate the catch very nicely.
