Forgive me since I'm not a Gretsch fan : Blue Strat Red Strat Sunburst Strat Cream Tele Sunburst Tele Black Gretsch (Duo Jet?) Orange Gretsch (Chet Atkins model?) Cream Gretsch (similar to G6118?)??? Flying V Gibson Firebird (Thunderbird is a bass) Red 335 Red Les Paul Jr. Some were hard to see (video quality and limited viewing) like the cream Gibson/Gretsch or whatever it was. ;D

I am a Clapton fan, and I know who SRV is. As far as I am concerned, they are fairly eqaul, Stevie has better technque and is more traditional blues, but Clapton and John Mayall, Cream, and Derek and the Dominoes helped change theface of popular music. Besides, Clapton when he is on has some of the best phrasing, and most soulful feel of any bnlues player. Robben Ford is cool, but ina jazzier way. They are all good, you wnat to see a blues pretender go watch some John Mayer clips.

I think Mayer uis god pklayer, but he lacks the fire and passion in his playing for me persojally. Also, there are a number of players just as good, who cause they aren't pretty boys adored by Rolling Stone don't get much attention lol. I think apart from encouraging Mayer cause he is a good player, a lot of it stems form trying to keep the blues alive, Mayer has a large fanbase, so if he goes bluesy, he re-introduces it to a new audience, and that is a good thing. Peace man.

Meaning what? Common, Mayer is good, but you can't seriously say he deserves to be on the same "guitar god"status as Jimmy Page, Eddie Van Halen, Jimi hendrix, Eric Clapton, Joe Satriani, Steve Vai, Black Sabbath, Santana etc. Those guys helped to shape and change music take them, away and there are big gaps in the music of the last fifty years, take John Mayer away?. He's been around ten years, and he has accomplished some good stuff, Hendrix was around for three and changed music forever.

But as long as the blue can be kept alive and current thats the important thing to me anyway.

agreed. the trouble is its harder to become 'innovative' these days while still adhering to the principles that most blues/rock nuts abide by. the next guitar genius who will be remembered as a hendrix/whoever innovator almost certainly won't be playing music exactly like this. it evolves. but it's still good...

Ia gree with you, I think that what the "purists" hacve tyo understand is that attitudes like that are what almost destroyed Classcial and Jazz, and certainly ahve relegated them to a lesser role. I think thouhg that blues is more a feel than a style, for me Beethoven is a blues player, e.g. Moonlight Sonata, not a 12 bar, not a pentatonic, but it has that raw feel of pure emotion channeled into music, one that speaks to the very core of the listener that to me is Blues.

Indeed it is, snobbery about music is what kills genres I think. Poeple get so hung up about it, when the guys who startyed it e.g.ROber Johnson were improvisers, they themselves rarely played exactly the same way every time, because it goes against the whole spirit of the blues, feel and improvisation.

Yeah they have a bit, especially Clapton I think, although Santana reckons his new ablum will be an instrumental one, he's is goiung out of the pop duet things he has been doing. Yeah i guess Robben ford has been getting better, am just gettuing into him so I canl;t really comment. Mayer is i agree way over-rated, like I said good yes, but their are plenty of studio musos and lesser known guys who are just as good imho. But this was a great cover by Robben Ford, very cool.
