Family legend goes that for my mom and dad's first date, dad took mom to a gig at Charlotte restaraunt/jazz club where 15 year old Chris Potter had his parents drive him from Columbia to play a session with dad and the Bill Hannah Quartet. Dad claims that Potter was just as good then as he is now and reportedly smoked everyone so badly that Dad and others waved white hankerchiefs to get him to stop. Dad recalled he had a photographic memory enabling him to see tune manuscripts in his head.
Everything he says is really true. damn I need to talk with this cat again. What he says about Paul and Dave is like...wooo church sermon! I think it is a problem, and ive read interviews of Greg Osby saying some similar thoughts about the "next" generation of jazz musicians practicing and practicing and not getting the "road" education. Jazz is just. different. now. too many thoughts to try to make sense in one comment but great insight on his thoughts and inspirations! thank you for the video
I have seen him twice with Dave Holland Qunitet and once with Underground--met him once. He is the most amazing horn player out there right now and super super nice too. Jazz artists are so much more accessible than the rest of the so called famous people--it's awesome to watch a gig then chat with the guys and ask questions or just get pictures with them. Chris will go down in my book as the one of the nicest of all time.
Awesome video and portrayal of Chris Potter...what an amazing musician and human being. I've never caught him live, but I look forward to meeting him in person someday! Thanks, JazzVideoGuy, for the video.
Awesome, what an amazing sax player. You should try and catch Elliot Mason sometime and do a video on him, he's really taking the trombone to a new level.

Chris Potter is awesome. Saw him play and met him twice. Definitely one of my favorite musicians of all time.
