OK... I'm impressed. So many of our first efforts that render satisfactory results like, "OMgossh" it actually works!" are put before the public eye. And Before Raider's of the lost Ark, ET or STar Wars... the rest of the world would have celebrated with you. Unfortunately... All have seen Tron and Woody win the world's heart with Pixar. Doesn't matter! This worked and you have reason to celebrate that it does. Good work and patience on your part confirms our efforts can work too. Bravo!
@konradhj I know it's a bit slow but it was just intended to see what I could do with totally unfamiliar free ware in a short time period (5 days). I don't have any of the files I made it with anymore but if I could change two things it would be to sync one of the sound effects better and also speedup the playback by about 20 %.
how did you do it without lag. is it simply cause you dont have too much cause i made one and it should take like 30 seconds cause graphities high but i have so many that it takes a minute cause sketchup lags even on an i7 (which my friend has). i have like 1000 though so that might be why
I made this years ago on an old computer so lag isn't really the question. What you are seeing is a Taksi screen capture of my sketchy model which I then imported into Windows Movie Maker, where I could edit the speed of the playback of the clip. I should have made it run a little faster in retrospect.
I added sound effects with Windows Movie Maker. All the sound effects including music were available as free downloads. You only get one sound track w/ Movie Maker, so I recorded it twice to put the music in.
If I could lay out a Sketchy Physics idea as together as that and watch it work, I'd feel like a king for more than a day...wicked! as you can't help knowing. Still it doesn't change the fact your video speaks volumes.... My dream would be a basic tutorial just explaining a few basic examples to give us, who are simply, -in awe- a clue, a starting point that can actually be implemented..
We can all get it to work but can never make any sense of what we just did..JKL
tyvm for the compliment. I haven't touched those programs since i made this and I don't remember exactly how i did everything. I have about 10 years experience w/ Autocad and other CAD apps, so that made it easier. Just go through the basic tutorials, learn where everything is, then come up w/ a simple idea that can be executed w/ what you know. That's the best way to learn.
how do you make it work? I have the program but have no clue what to do to make dominos effects.... I'm making a level and trying to go into a level design school.
YouTube doesn't let you post links, but if you search for the names of the freeware programs I listed you shouldn't have any trouble locating the downloads. Also, I found that wikipedia is a good way to get a quick explanation of each of the programs so that might be the place to start.
I started this when I went to bed, and when I woke up it was just finishing.

It's only cool if you're trying to teach yourself sketchup and are looking for some ideas. Otherwise, I agree, it's no Avatar. :P
