  • Whys everyone complaining, these people have broken the horse perfectly, they didnt rush a thing, and used lightweiht and experiance children to start him off!

  • @DWguineaPigFan no worries on my part. This was not posted to change what I believe, but to show others how safe starting a horse under saddle should always be. Since I started working horses this way I have NEVER had one buck in response to being started under saddle or any other adverse reactions for that matter.

  • Not bad at all :D I have a horse and she's pretty hard to handle, even with natural horsemanship. The girl did a great job! And the horse is quite pretty, I love his coat color.

  • @CherubHorse when we rescued him as a weanling he was a regular chestnut with flaxen mane and tail. Then his mane started coming in dark with silver hairs and when he shed out the second year he had a brindle color to his coat and his light colored lower legs turned greyish. His mane and tail continue to darken, but his winter coat is always orange. I had someone tell me it is the silver dilute gene. It is beautiful whatever it is.

  • @reiningtrainer That sounds like a very confusing change lol... Imagine at a riding stable... someone who rides that horse in lessons takes a break from riding for a few months...comes back... Who is this horse in Dover's stall?!?!

  • @CherubHorse Well, they ask who his brother is anyway *smiling*

  • @reiningtrainer lol :) That is one VERY unique horse anyway :D

  • A JOY TO WATCH!

  • @devilgirl434 He tried to roll with the rider

  • @thewildmustang91 doubt he would have rolled...he was responding to the weight by starting to lie down. This was the first time he carried ANY weight. He never did it again, that day or to this day.

  • Umm, wrong side of the horse

  • @secretariat888 Nope pretty sure the outside is the correct side of the horse....LOL Actually, when I start a horse I work off both sides from the very beginning for a bunch of reasons with the number one reason being it makes for a more solid foundation that makes the horse prepared for any type of advanced riding he may be asked to do.

  • I love how suddenly every non-rider on the internet instantly becomes a 'horse trainer' or a 'professional' as soon as they see someone breaking or backing a horse. People don't understand that it's hard to train horses!

  • @USArmysis1 I try to encourage those that are training their own horses, especially kids. Reason being, that is how I got my start. My parents are not horse trainers, so I had to read and do. We spent a lot of time with our horses and were blessed when it came time to break them. Most times kids do a much better job as they do have the time and more importantly a dream. In the same token I don't take kindly to ignorant arrogance from kids or adults.

  • @devilgirl434 I don't have a definite answer to that question. It was a first time for me as well. Dover breezed through his round pen work but something did arise as I worked with him. He had a very playful, dog like attitude and to this day he can be a real prankster. It is my Opinion that he simply lay down as a first time reaction to carrying weight. All horses respond differently to those first steps and that was his. He has never tried to lie down with a rider again.

  • in the beginning, why does she get half way on and then pat the horse all over. i know why she gets half way on, but what about the patting?

  • @TheWrongLead it is to get the horse accustomed to having something happening on both sides at the same time and as prep for when her leg comes over and may bump the horse during the process of swinging over.

  • awesome! cutest horse EVER :D

  • wow cool im 12 and im training my donkey to be ridin, hes stubborn but doing pretty good.

  • @CutePoniesLOL We had a donkey jack when I was about your age...he was very stubborn. We never did get him broke so don't get discouraged. You must be on the right track if he is improving.

  • What kind of horse is he?

  • @horsecrazyhaley Dover is a Draft cross, most likely a pony was the stud as he only matured to 13.3hh. He was a by product from the ranches in Canada that collected pregnant mare urine from Draft mares for human hormone replacement therapy for women. The foals are taken off the moms as soon as the mom becomes pregnant again after foaling. My daughters mare Princess came from the same Canadian ranch and we got them both at the same time from a local rescue ranch. They are both great.

  • I got my first horse when he was 4 months old and when I was 13 I broke him myself :) I did all the groundwork and training, and he was three (he's an Arabian so we waited another year) and he didn't react at all when I put my weight on him :) now he's 4 and I'm 14 and I can literally do everything on him, (stand lay down, ride him backwards etc.) My trainer is having me break all her young ones, and I sat on my filly for the first time a couple weeks ago :) Great job with yours!!

  • Wow! This clearly prooves that just because your young, doesn't mean you cant ride a horse! She handled that first ride fabulously

  • Age means nothing! trained my first horse when i was 12 and she was 2. untouched horse not even halter broken. Broke her in slowly and now we are winning first place in dressage. shes almost 4 now and im almost 14. Ive done al the training myself.

  • im 11 now and i broke my 2 year old stallion and my first time to ride him i was 10 and he was 1

  • im 13, broke my 3 year old last august :)

  • @HoofbeatsofSmokey great! Hope you two are still doing great together.

  • Wonderful job on the groundwork and prep work for this horse before walking off for the first time! Very gentle, very forgiving, calm attitude; that's what creates a confident, solid riding horse!

  • Great job:) Hey i have a 3 mouth old foal she lets me put on her halter and she lets me brush her and she let s me pick up her feet but when its time to walk her even by her halter she freaks out and she s also face shy and one have any tips for me if yes can you please reply on my channel thank you so much <3

  • @082lucky I have a bunch of articles that will help you on Ezine - Jodi M Wilson author "Can't Tough That - Ear Shyness - deals directly with ear shyness. Working with a baby should be short and rewarding, easy and full of small steps. Your foal needs to learn how to release to pressure before you start leading. Then you need to put specific cue spots on her. Take your time and have fun.

  • When I was 11, I rode my 3 year old appy for his first time. Age means nothing if you know what you're doing. Nice job! :)

  • @Chut619 Right On!!!

  • Whatever happen to getting on the left side only? o.o

  • @TearMeDownTonite the only reason I am aware of for getting on the left side dates way back and for convenience to right handed soldiers, cowboys etc. We get on both sides from the start so if we get in a jam and need to get on from the right side we can do so without the horse getting upset. One good example is when I broke my foot. I could not get on from the left side until my foot completely healed. I also get on from both sides with a new saddle in order to stretch the leathers evenly.

  • I am 15 and broke my Morgan/Qh in three days :) she is three and perfect <3

  • @Jessiealana keep up the great work, break things down into easy steps and you and your horse will go farther faster.

  • Haha when I was 11 I broke my fjord to ride :)

Don't let anyone say age has anything to do with experience!!

  • @FireyFriesian Way to go!

  • when i rode a horse i was in kindergarten LOL, but it was at my old friends house, xD Ive only ridden a horse 1 time but i want to ride one thing is i live in the city and my parents dont let me do that stuff, any ideas of how i could ride a horse?

  • @MusicGyrl1 I am sorry to say that if your parents wont allow it then you are stuck. You need their permission and most likely their signature on release forms for any place you could ride. That being said, you can try finding a stable/training barn near you and approach them about working in exchange for lessons. You could also look for horse rental barns near your home and try to get the whole family on horse back for a fun afternoon. Good luck and hope you get to ride soon.

  • Wow. I was 12 when i rode my (new at the time) horse. She was 4yrs and never been ridden before me. Great job! ^.^

  • Great Job! Most adults don't know how to do the work you are doing with this horse! You are an excellent little trainer. Keep up the great work

  • What a cute horse and kids! That is so cool! Check out "Dover's First Show Ridden by 7yr old" it's really cool too! :)
