I'm almost certain they can fix this recording up. It sounds like the original tape has been stretched, it's all warped sounding. I guess, since it was a fan's recording, it was probably never duplicated until it was finally converted to digital, and for all those decades, it was probably played countless times.
@Feelin2nice Hey Ray Charles is great, but youre talking about Buddy Holly, one of the most infulential people in Rock n Roll. This quality is terrible, but Buddy had his own style and was a great artist.
today is thanksgiving '11 and i want to give thanks to buddy for giving us all his great music. the joy his music has given me is imeasureable to say the least
This version is an absolute insult to Ray Charles. I know the recording it suspect, but even the clearer parts are laughable. Great, he was influenced by Charles. And I guess he gets props for singing a song from the great Mr. Charles. But this sounds horrible.
The real version touches my soul. This made my skin crawl.

.......and nobody wants to see the fact that ALL these white ppl got famous off stealing black ppls songs! U all should be extreemly ashamed and embarassed that u celebrate these theives! Smh!
@Mu6luva Hey man, I understand what you mean for sure. But unlike many at that time and now, Holly was no racist, highly unusual for a southerner I know. But he was a musician who was friends with Chuck Berry, Little Richard et al. He had a Puerto Rican wife and played and was accepted at the Apollo. He was not your typical hillbilly. And even he was ripped off, in fact he had to go on that last tour to make money cause he was being extorted and bled for cash by the "industry".
Another weekend Friday night in the 10-acre grounds backstage at ' White Mansion ' Ft Homer Hesterly Armory, Tampa, Fla, Feb 21 '58 and a young fan from nearby Bradeneton complete with tape machine n camera mixes with Jerry Lee, Bud, Don Everly and Jimmy Velvet. At the jam's close the hip guy asks, " You like to play some Ray Charles dontcha ? "
Speed up the tempo and he would have nailed it. Jerry Lee's swooping runs didn't quite compliment the vocals. It's like they were performing two totally different interpretations. Two strong brains clashing, yet still mathematically correct - therefore listenable.
It seems you're if you mean the 'Alan Freeds Big Beat Show', 28th of March - 21th of April 1958, yes..
There was Chuck Berry, Buddy & Crickets, Frankie Lymon, Diamonds, Billy Ford, Danny & The Juniors, The Chantels, Larry Williams, Screaming Jay Hawkins, The Pastels, Jo-Ann Campell, Ed Townsend and Alan's Orchestra with Sam Taylor too.

@guitarpop He didn't write this though - Ray Charles did
ollieetherington1 11 months ago
@ollieetherington1 The point is, Buddy Holly's fame rests on the laurels of his own achievements...his own compositions.

@ollieetherington1 Ray didnt write the song, Henry Glover did.....Ray was the first to record it though
