  • You should do Frostbolt + Ice Lance, more damage.

  • only noobs going back!

  • nice backpeddle broski

  • mathgeek1313 is right, but one more thing: freeze can remain after a certain amount of damage, if you see cast a freeze and your pet will need 2,3 waterbolts to break it, also a pro mage i have watched blinked from a freeze to escape and he didn't get critical. in adition don't thump down or reply shit to me, because i lvl up with shatter combo, any time my freeze is ready i do shatter combo and know everything about it!!!

  • Is it still like that, how the target NEEDS to be frozen before you finish casting? I've been casting elementals freeze when my frostbolt is mid-air. And that seems to work, I havn't payed that close of attention because i'm lower level and my crit isn't that high. I'm not sure if this changed or not. (4.0.3 atm)

  • @futbolaholic3 Id like toknow that too because I usually open with

    start casting frost bolt

then hlfway through the cast i freeze the target right before the bolt hits.

  • @mikejclark Heh, kinda forgot about this, but yes, it still needs to be frozen by the time you finish casting frostbolt. This is confirmed as of 4.0.3a, I did plenty of tests and i could see not as much crit AND avg dmg of frost bolt(non crit and crit) when i froze target after i finish casting frostbolt and while it was in the air.

  • @IceKingEnforcer he may be a backpedaler but everything he says is true

  • I didn' understand a thing. I watched it so many times but still don't get the point. Can someone explain it in a PM, may be writing is more easily understandable.

  • @togglify i can tell you, shatter combo is about burst dmg, as you know shatter talent increases your crit chance by 50% when the target is frozen, but your target will not remain frozen if he knows what you are going to do, so with shatter combo you summon your pet, start casting a frostbolt and immediatly make your pet start casting a waterbolt, then freeze the target about 0.4 seconds before you finish the frostbolt and cast ice lance with the frostbolt so they hit together the target...

  • @greatman63 both with crit dmg, then your pet's waterbolt hits for another 1200 dmg at 80 lvl, and the reason we do this is to make sure the target will not escape from the freeze, also you need to know that when you cast a spell and your target is frozen when the spell leaves your hands, it will get the shatter effect even if the target escapes before the spell hits him, i hope explained everything you wanted to learn

  • i tested and WE needs to hit 2 times in order to break the freeze

  • 2:14 nice backpaddeling haha=DDDDDD

  • Most simple Elemental Freeze macro :D

    /cast Freeze

  • What addon are you using that one with the diff cast plates etc?

  • hahaha i heard a car horn!

  • Thank you! Very helpful info. I am a visual person and when my friends tried to explain it to me I was like "huh?"

  • dont i use deep freeze right when im done castin frostbolt so it does extra dmg.then spam ice lance

  • this also works grerat with the Fingers of Frost talent, the fingers though lets you add in an ice lance which will also take the shatter buff giving you another 3k burst :)

  • Lol

  • lol ... preety old stuff ... anyone playing 20/0/41 preety much has this in reflex ... now how many ppl have 400 spell haste to do double shatter combo?

  • @rd950 Shatter isn't an attack, it's a passive talent. O.o

  • @rd950 - Shatter isnt an attack, its a talent you learn :( ..

  • That's why it is called Shatter Combo!!!!

    Let me explain.

First you do what you did but right after the pets freeze breaks you let the target approach you. After that you cast your instants. After all of that and if the PVP player is still alive you cast you Frost Nova, directly after you place your Shatter, then you nuke him with everything you have!!!!

Also: If you can use Icy Vein then nuke him with frostbolt.

  • WARNING: Becarefull with the global cooldowns, this my make you FULL shatter combo last along time.

Try to use your Ice Barrier so you do not take die when performing this combo.

  • becouse of you i started to play frost pvp :) thank you!

  • i miss watching your videos. plz make more i knwo it's been a long time since you have but plz make more!

  • I heard car horn at 1:58 :D

  • shatter registers when the spell in the air before it hits target but doing it while casting is much saver

  • so waterbolt can break the frost nova then? my friend said it couldnt

  • Theoretically any damage can, or at least it could at the time I posted this video. As far as I know this is still true, though the chance is certainly very low. As I stated in the voiceover, it's a very minor concern at most, was just tossing it out there.

  • can u tell me the marco i cant find it

  • how you put the macros?

  • could u please tell me what addon u have for placing ur skills and where i can dl it?

  • No.

  • by "several things wrong" i assume you mean what you said after that.

  • Where's the survivability?

    Arc/Fire dies way too easily.

  • you have Ice Barrier, and 2 Ice Blocks. handy for getting rid of Rogues. or making someone blow their CD's on a block of Ice.

  • and a water elemental =D

  • frost does more than fire which i thought was weird at first. and since frost can slow and freeze that makes it more deadly.

  • Err no

Both Frost and Arc/Fire is capable of similar burst

With frost the target NEEDS to be frozen, and it takes a lot of positioning/setting up, but you can pull it off multiple times per match

With Arc/Fire just have the target Scorch-stacked, at 50% hp a PoM-Pyro + Fireblast is easily enough to finish them off. It's not crit-dependant, pyro can hit ATLEAST 3k normal.

  • Fire = Glass cannon

    Frost = Iron shotgun

    'nuff said.

  • PoM-Pyro < Frost any day, as PoM is only up every three minutes when Arc/Fire whereas Frost Nova is up every 8 seconds when Shatter talented, and you get two ranged novas during the Water Elemental's lifetime.

Also, a proper shatter combo hits for way more than 3k damage.

  • Crap, meant 21 seconds on F Nova.

  • mine go near 5k

  • So does a pyro+fireblast+blastwave. The difference is that PoM-Pyro is 100% unpredictable. With shatter combos that target can 100% predict it, oh I'm frozen, oh he's charging up a frostbolt, I wonder what could happen next?? Should I trinket the freeze, LoS the frostbolt+ice lance? Shatter combos give the target plenty of time to react while PoM Pyro doesn't.

In the end both specs have their pros and cons and take different skill levels to play well. Be rest assured, both are good for arena.

  • Hm, I see what you mean.

But still, a pyro+fb+bw would take what, half a PvPer's health. After that you're done, you've no more tools, the points you could have spent on em were spent on PoM.

Frost on the other hand can live perfectly well after landing a successful shatter combo or if it fails. If the target trinkets or it's imperative that the it dies, Cold Snap, use the elemental or a Nova. If you're being hit, use Icy Veins or Barrier.

In short, Frost has more flexibility and longevity.

  • Nitrosycho88 he said u cast the ranged nova just before the frostbolt so it is still unpredictable and just for saying this makes you a total noob

  • Hmm lets see...

    1. Mage summons elemental

    2. Mage trinkets just as he starts casting frostbolt

    3. Elemental starts casting its waterbolt at you

    4. (Guess what happens next???) - SHATTER COMBO

    5. Therefore, you're the idiot.

I suggest you guys look up Peevee & Fony (pom-pyro-mage + disc-priest) 2v2 to 2200+. Arc/Fire has more instants, Scorch is a much shorter cast than Frostbolt, and overall Arc/Fire is MUCH better suited to tackle pillar-huggers.

You CANNOT shatter combo around a pillar.

  • Some of you simply won't understand the advantages of Arc/Fire unless you have an S2/S3 mage with atleast 850+ spelldamage and 26%+ crit self-buffed (32%+ crit with fire).

If you don't have those things, please don't talk out of your ass.

  • OK... so if hes a noob, then why does it work when you do it and I do it and when everybody else does it? IT COULDNT POSSIBLY BE THAT YOU'RE INCORRECT ABOUT SOMETHING 0,0 SO THEREFORE IT HAS TO BE THE GUY WHOS SKILLEDS FAULT.

  • Fire is extremely squishy compared to ice tho.

  • lol yeah right that ice barrier is a joke lol im lvl 80 and i take there armor away as fast as mana armor and there is no point to it really...i can 2 hit people with my fire mage even with 22k health if crited.

  • except that my comment is about lvl 70, not 80 you idiot.

  • lol yeah, when will people learn to comment about 70lvls on TBC videos and 80lvls on wotlk videos O.o

  • Its funny though since I play an alliance human mage and I try my best to play correctly as a mage in PvP it takes a lot of horde players by surprise, I managed to kill 3 horde in a row earlier tonight who were all coming after me, first a warrior, then a rogue then another warrior, and for a few seconds their buddies who came down to help them hesitated before they went after me, felt freaking awesome.

  • And lastly you should try to set up macros for this if your not very skilled at microing (aka keyboard/mouse dancing).

  • Believe me when I say this, this is A LOT harder then it looks, if your into timing, I suggest you do 3 things when you want to be a burst dps player (same can be said for Arms PvP warriors, and also for Retribution Paladins who are also burst dps talents for PvP) is to set up your attack burst to key binds, in a fight against intelligent targets like other players you wont be given the chance to take your time with a mouse. Also you should practice on "dumb" targets like mobs to perfect it.

  • ....

I could teach my dog to do shatter combos, Evertras has just put a LOT of detail/explaining in this video, making it sound overcomplicated.

Summon elemental > start casting frostbolt > freeze just as you finish casting > ice lance

    It's stupidly easy

But it takes skill to maneuver the opponent into a position for shatter combo. That's the hard part.

  • Aaaah thanks!! It really helped me a lot! ;)

  • U is awesome! i love all your videos! xD

    U suck ? hmm...u pro maaan xDDD

  • pretty useful, thanks =)

  • I've got a frost mage and a hunter. The hunter is an engineer and what I like to do against shatter combos is use a gyrofreeze ice reflector. Since the mage is busy trying to time everything right they usually don't notice me using the ice reflector. Since it's a lot of burst damage they get theirselves low on hp or even kill themselves. That's if the trinket doesn't get resisted. I do the same for pom-pyro mages with the fire trinket and locks with the shadow trinket. Pretty much a life saver.

  • Mages if they got a brain in their skull usually throw a Frost ward up on themselves when they do it, and if their 0/5/56 they would have a lot of frost resistance anyway, and its because of reflection and resilience PoM/Pyro became a nub's PvP talent build after BC came out. Thanks to Blizzard and their awesome strat to make mages and locks less of an OP class then they are in PvP... not that they were any less powerful then any other class, they just nerfed 1 talent build for both for PvP.

  • great video, although i have a mage myself, i usually just use my own frost nova, or use the frostbite thingy, but great combo none the less

  • That's not a Shatter Combo. Try that and PvP and watch your enemy break your Frost Nova while you're waiting 2.5 seconds for your Frost Bolt to cast. The point of a Shatter Combo is to hit them with the damage before they have a chance to break the Frost Nova. As in the video, 0.3 seconds is barely time at all for anyone to react.

  • im glad you think im wrong, however i never said that my move was considered a "shatter combo" so ya...

  • i wuvs youuuu :D

    <3

    xoxo

  • With Icy Veins, it's pretty much impossible to get spell pushback, so if you're going to go balls out with a Shatter combo, use an Icy Veins macro!

  • can you show the exact macro you use?

  • Evertras: How do you keybind? I have my spells on the numberpad on the right side of the keyboard, but I have to take my hand off of it to use the mouse to aim the freeze. This wouldn't be a huge problem but I have to get my hand back to the keyboard to use icelance. Do you have icelance keybound with your left hand?

  • Most people bind thier spells to the left hand side of thier keyboard just for that reason. NEVER take your hand off of your mouse. I suggest that (if you can) re-bind your spells to 1-6 Q E R T F etc etc and see if that works better for you.

  • Correct, a moving mage is a living mage. Only ever stop for charge casts, like Frostbolt, Fireball and even scorch, yes thats right scorch, sometimes you find yourself using odd spells to take that last 10% of health off your opponents, and yes PvP is so fast that the cooldowns of 3 second is too long at times.

  • Keyboard Turner and/or Mouthbreather

  • BEEEP!~~~ i loled

  • hmm it could be better do wut u said but while it is frozen after your frostbolt hits it use ice lance if ur frostbolt didnt brake the freeze i hit 10k with all crits with shatter combo before 3.7k with frotstbolt 1k from pets 2.9k from ice lance and finished it with cone of cold around 1k =)

  • Thanks Evertras for all of your vids - I for one really enjoy them.

  • BEEP BEEP!!

  • HAHA hear at 1:57-1:58 ^^

  • lol exactly like 3 minute mage cus water elemental 3 min cooldown lol but hell u get more survivability so i think its better my apinion.

  • More survivability buts possible to this more times and itl scare the crap out of the person that thought he could own you.

  • you know that frost nova has about a 20 sec c/d? that means you can just do that, stand back a bit, and do your combo

  • but so many classes have counters to that or ranged interrupts its not really viable (as much)

  • thanks for the video. I am up to level 64 so no ice lance yet but this is still a great combo especially when i hit 66

  • I like the car horn in the commentary. BEEP BEEP IMA JEEP. Thanks for tutorial evetras

  • How do u get your minimap that small?

  • sup evertras you dont know me but i know you hahahahaha.

  • I'm no mage, but I'll remember that next time I'm polymorphed, and the mage is starting to wind a frostbolt without nova'ing me first.

  • id hate to be that ram :) gj everyras :D

  • Very nice. Lol at the car horn outside, and the "I fricking hate these things"

  • <3 Evertras

  • Great tutorial, that makes me want to spec back to full frost again, currently using an elemental build.
