I admit, this is the first 'The Eagles' song I've heard, and just heard it for the 1st time not long ago while at my unglamourish blue-collar job.

Had been talking with a co-worker about how existence feels like purgatory, and then on a distant radio I hear: "You can checkout any time you like, but you can never leave" which made more sense to me than is probably healthy. When I got home, I just had to look up those lyrics, and, well, here I am.
