I cannot agree entirely. I found the main allegro of the first movement, the two inner movements, and the introduction to the last movement as absolutely great. The first movement introduction was a tad too brisk compared to the main allegro. The last movement proper for me was the one blot on this performance, with its strangely applied tempo fluctuations which threatened to compromise the coherence of the movement. I don't know what ideas he had here, but it didn't work for me.

It's so exciting to see conductors like Wand and Sawallisch at the end of their careers reaching such heights of extraordinary musicianship. Each man is a true mensch.

I had the chance to hear him live many times in Hamburg. All his concerts where sold out and his performance was always

on very high standard. When he died Germany lost his last great conductor.

He did not reach out for the Music Business - ! He always said the business has to come to find me - I am not going to run after this.

a wonderful interpreter, a very good orchestra...The firs Horn appears to be the great Gerd Seifert from the Berlin Philharmonic!

Wand had an innate deep understanding of music. His conducting is amazing! I even cannot believe that there is a so great maestro like Furtwangler living in late 20th century . A real maestro who had been ignoring for such a long time. Wand's Brahms, Bruckner and Beethoven were just phenonmenal.
