  • Awesome video! So how would I go about re-installing Lion OS x?

  • can you change or upgrade intel processor?

  • My laptop, 2.53 ghz 4gb ram, intel core 2 duo and 250gb HD.

Standard and basic MBP 15inch late summer 2009 release.

I have a question to ask, I've upgraded to lion and everything works fine, since I want to upgrade with a faster 8gb ram I wanted to know wether this customization may affect negatively the new OS.

    Thanks!

  • What Kind of watch do u have?????

  • can the watch get any bigger ?????????

  • Dude you took out the sata and then put in the same one...

  • Hi, i have the same computer (Macbook Pro 2.26 Ghz Intel Core 2 Due, 2gb 1067 MHz DDR3).Is it practical for me to replace/upgrade my ram to 8 gigs?? I mean, it's 2.26 Ghz... I'm not sure how it would turn out..... Also, is it better to just get a portable hard drive or replace the internal hard drive?? Would either one of those 2 be faster than the other? (assuming that both would have the same amount of storage)

  • hey whats the name of this song?

  • can you change the video card?

  • Thanks, nice tune nice vid and nice U-Boat. Simples

  • nice work

  • Thanks Chris Your video was very helpful.. I also watched your cloning video.. also worked very well... I just wanted thank you for your vids.. soo Thanks you.. :)

  • were did you buy the RAM and sutff?

  • @masterhidsert1043 just search on google, theyre everywhere man! amazon.com.. everywhere!!

  • I'd like to know... I have the exact same computer. I realized my actual hard drive disk was damaged, and needed replacement. Because of elapsed warranty and cost, I refused to let Apple change it, and decided to do it myself.

The question is this following: Can just ANY 2.5 hard drive disk do?

I found a Seagate Momentus ST9500420AS (500gb, 7200 RPM) which suits to my preferences. Could it be adequate, compatible?

I often heard the suggestion of no compatibility, and am still wondering.

  • Will this void my warranty if I do it all by myself ??

  • 5 Star... Very nice and clean video :)

  • i have upgraded the ram to 8gb but i dont know what hard drive to get :s

  • @w35t51d369 If you have the money get a Seagate 500GB 7200RPM Hard drive, Boots your laptop up faster aswell...

  • sorry for offtopic but which watch is that? panerai?

  • can i put a solid state disk in macbook ,corsair sata 2 ?

  • i have a question, i just bought a WD10tPVT 1tb hard drive from my macbook pro 13" and it does fit well, but i has these 4 pin think [ i would think its for the power] do u have any suggestions about that?

  • I did this few months ago with my Macbook white (late 2009). I know the manual said you just had to touch the hard drive to eliminate static, but I was a little nervous and used an anti-static wristband.

  • Would have been better with an Ironed shirt..

    Do Apple do iorns?

    :o)

  • your watch is very nice

  • Great job, I've got the Late 2008 Q4 15 inch Pro, I'm assuming it's not much different.

Not that I'm watching this to learn, I love mac porn... Technology in general.

Awesome watch also, I've been meaning to buy a Tauchmeister myself for the last 3 years.. I'll get round to it.

  • thank you

  • @forthewolf325 They do actually make 1TB 2.5" HHD's, they're just rather new and expensive so there aren't many on the market yet. Give it 6 months so so and they'll be fairly common and we'll likely have 1.5TB drives too.

  • @forthewolf325 the metal needs to be earthed, and in this video its clearly not earthed to anything....

  • What watch are you wearing? Looks nice!

  • so if i upgrade my macbook pro's HDD i wouldnt have to install OS X? Assuming i want a "like new" macbook pro with just OS X and no other files/programs.

  • @supie15 no if the new drive is clean you will need to install os x it cost 29.99 on apple you can copy the old drives fles to the new god bless

  • I want to upgrade to 8GB RAM and a 1 TB HD.. never done anything like that before, But i feel pretty confident that I could do it. Clone the new hdd using superduper, and just click the ram in right? How hard could it be..

  • @fnawesomewes currently 1TB is only availabl at 12.5 mm which can only fit in certain laptops but all the unibody macbooks can hav it fitted so, good luck

  • errm touching metal that isnt grounded wont ground you haha.

  • what type/brand of ram should I buy for the macbookpro 13 inch? (macbookpro5,5)

  • thanks buddy

  • will apple be able to upgrade the harddrive, i seriously need 500gb at least on my 13" 2009 MBP.

  • Great video!

  • Is that Flava Flav's watch?

  • Thanks a lot pal .

  • I have a 13in Macbook pro with a 2.4 ghz processor and 4gb of ram. (My computer came with that) How much would it cost do you think to go from 4gb to 8gb?

  • Can you get somebody to do this for you, as i wouldnt want to break it

  • Very informative thanks....

  • Why is it so slow when it boots?

  • i have a question...how much does the 4gb ram cost

  • hey will this void a warrenty on the newer macs like the one that is in the video

  • @nerdkiller15 MacBook Pros can be upgrade HDD and RAM, iMacs can only upgrade RAM.

  • Great vid, nicely produced. Simple and clear with good bubble-notes. Just what I was looking for. Ignore comments re-warranty, why would users concerned with that bother to look up info on doing it themselves? For those who want to do it themselves and have some experience opening previous bits of kit, this is a really good guide. Nicely done! Thanks.

  • loving the watch :D lol

  • i typed this comment with my penis

  • its people like you that make me appreciate the human mind and its quest for easier and cheaper routes! thanks!!

  • This is the best tutorial on how to upgrade the RAM and hard drive. It's funny how I've seen some people remove all the screws on the rear case on some of the videos but they know which is which, but the way you're did it's more precised and secured.

  • nice watch :)

  • very good tutorial. i've done the 4GB RAM but am looking to upgrade to 320GB HDD, now I know what vid to go to when I'm ready for said project.

  • Hi, Nice vid. I just ordered a 13" MBP and would like to upgrade the HD. What HD would you suggest? 5400 rpm or 7200 rpm? Does it matter which one I use? Is one louder than the other? or use more power etc. I noticed the option to upgrade to a 7200 rpm HD isnt available thru apple for the 13", while the option is available for the 15 & 17 inches. Lastly, do I have to clone it (HD)if I install right out of the box?

  • Hey Bully Chris-

Tks so much for the video. two quick questions, it took one full minute to boot up, is it just the first time that it will do that, or will it do it always?

Another question, what kind of hard drive can I upgrade my macbook, which is not a macbook pro??

  • very nice video bro good to see someone else knows how to tighten down the screws the right way

  • Hi bullychris,

I dont know if u remember me but you answered one of my question few weeks back on the upgrades on the macbook pro, and I recently upgraded my to 6 ram and 500gb and i would just like to thank you ^^ your vid helped alot hope you keep it up whatever your doing m8 appreciate it

    respect from swiss

  • That is one mighty big watch you have

  • so the macbook came with 2x1gig ram sticks and you put in 2x2gig ram sticks

  • Can I upgrade my MBP from HDD to SSD?

  • @RandomDoomsday15 No it does not voice warrenty. Do not comment unless you have correct information. Apple allows you to swap RAM and HDD out as they are user replaceable parts [as stated in the manual]. However if you damage the internals whilst doing it you may be at risk.

  • @RandomDoomsday15 All comes down to individual competencies. I am a professional IT consultant and find such things easy - most other people would too [hence me doing a video]. But there are some people who should not even attempt working in their kit.

  • @bullychris shouldn't you have taken your watch off and touch the case prior to opening it?

  • @bullychris hahahahaha

  • @bullychris Is it possible to upgrade the processor? plz answer :)

  • @moneyboi50 no.

  • @fnawesomewes errgh! well, thanks tho

  • @moneyboi50 Nope, at least not easily, and it'd be a bit of a pointless task anyway imo. As far as I know, they're soldered into the socket like on the vast majority of laptops. Plus you'd also have to upgrade the cooling system if you put in a better CPU, so unless you really know what you're doing and have the money to risk bricking your machine I wouldn't bother. If you have an old laptop lying around and can get a better CPU that fits in the same socket for pretty chea then practice!

  • @RandomDoomsday15 NO IT WONT YOU CAN UPGRADE THE MEMORY AND HARD DRIVE WITH OUT VOIDING YOUR WARTT READ YOUR PAPER WORK AND IF YOU NEED TO GO TO THE APPLE SITE AND READ IT THERE TO

  • @RandomDoomsday15 RAM and memory is the same thing

  • how did you install the os on the new hard drive

  • @TheAmazingShua I used superduper to clone onto the new drive... no installation of Mac OS X needed.

  • does this void the warante

  • please tell me what size screw will i need to use

  • hi, i just bought a macbook pro off of ebay, and it seems like the guy upgraded it from 320gb to 500gb seagate hard drive, do u have any experience with seagate? are they reliable? im afraid it could fail and apple wont cover it

  • @ecuamario Seagate is a fine brand, I have 2 x 500gb Seagate 2.5" portable drives which have been perfect.

  • Hi, im planning to upgrade the same things on my own macbook pro mid 2009 2.53ghz, can I do the same thing as what you did to yours?

Im planning to upgrade add 2 more ram and increase my harddrive to 500?

and will all the programs (photoshop, word etc) that i installed be copied with Superduper

thanks for posting the vid, really informative ^^

  • @MrBlackwase Hi,

    Yes

    Yes

    and Yes.

  • Very impressive! This is exactly the answer I was looking for, you should upload your video to this site, Ewisdomtv

  • Im giving away 4gb of ram to all you macbook pro users, Check out the video on my channel!

  • brilliant uboat mate!

  • did u have mac os installed on that drive prior to replacing it?

  • @LloydAus dy figured it out lol

  • @LloydAus Yes.

  • Comment removed

  • mine does

  • I need to know if In this way, using SuperDuper, also all applications remain installed on the new HD!

    Thank you!

P.S.: your guide is complete. I like it! ;)

  • @enios89 Hi, yes everything will be copied across.

  • I got a brand new one for just 750 euro`s, bought a samsung 500GB HD and configured it with windows 7- bootcamped and Snow leopard all together.

    Man, i`m so happy.....

  • im glad they dont hide screws under the feet

  • @paintballgundown8 Oh man products that hide screws pisses me off. If I want to take something apart, I'm gonna take it apart no point in hiding them from me. XD

  • how do you get lepoard on your new HD? do u just put the leopard disc in and boot up?

  • wondering about the same question?

  • @likildim oh i looked in the instruction manual. If you check in the "everything Mac" manual; replacing hard disk page 37-43, it says to check page 60 on how to reinstall software. You just pop in the OSX snow leopard disk that comes in the "everything else" leaflet into the cd drive and hold down C and follow the install instructions. then when you have finished installing, you pop in your iLife disk to install the ilife suite, and install any other software you had, such as iWork

  • Nice video! love it, i didnt know that iits so easy.

can u tell your watch brand name? i love it too:) thanks

  • @TheMrDeniel Thanks, Its a Uboat.

  • thank u im gona keep this video for when i get myn in feb im doing the same

  • Good vid. I want to upgrade my internal HDD on my 2.53 to maybe a 7200rpm drive/500 GB. Also I noticed u are a U-Boat wearer as well!!!! I own a 1001 in Orange but I seldom wear it out. It was given to me as a special gift. I keep it in a safe, hahahaha. My everyday wear is a Panerai Luminor Power Reserve 44mm which i bought used.

  • I have a 500gb hard drive that's in my old PC laptop and I want to transfer it over to my MacBook. I got nothing important so I want to just format everything. How do I go abouts formating the hard drive? Will there just be an option once I hook the 500gb hard drive into my MBP?

  • Will it make a difference if I get OWC RAM instead of crucial?

  • no but owc is way cheaper

  • when you transfer your data to another hard drive does the downloaded applications like iWork go to your new hard drive?

  • Just wondering...can i move the memory RAM from XP to upgrade Vista?

  • Nice U-BOAT

  • @bullychris

Thanks for your videos. SuperDuper'ed and installed 7200 500GB HDD plus full 3GB memory in 2006 MBP. All working A1 - and faster too!

    BTW ? background music.

    Cheers

  • @MasterGeeSee

Glad I could be of some help. Sounds like you have yourself a nice machine there.

Background music is courtesy of YouTube!

  • The upgrade notice from 2 to 4 is there. I'm about to do a 4 to 8, woot! And want HDs to go to the TB size too and do a 7200 RPM upgrade there.

  • where do you buy your parts?? website??

  • @animecritic

    Crucial / Newegg

  • is it really noticeable when you upgrade the RAM from 2 to 4 ?

  • @Soetman Yes if you use apps like PS and iMovie, etc, and/or you keep all of your apps open at the same time [all the time] and flick between them. This is the way you work on OSX so I recommend it.

  • Bell&Ross?

  • No, U-Boat.

  • @bullychris

its the same with the 17" hey...

I would like to put a 128SSD in mine...

  • belo video.

  • where did you buy your RAM from by the way?? I am thinking of getting 4 gb of RAM.

  • Crucial

  • @bullychris

how come you HDD already comes installed with mac OS

  • @Applestuff100

It didnt I cloned my original HDD with SUperduper. See my other guide.

  • @bullychris

How would I get all my stuff on a 128GB SSD all the mac Stuff on it so its like the HDD that I have now and the new i7 Processor thats coming out next year can I changes my core 2 duo to a i7 processor???

  • @Applestuff100

no that is impossible, an i7 will require the mac book to be thicker and new battery, new mother board, new ram config,

basically you're going to need to buy the new mac book pro's when they come out, they will probably be 1 inch thick becuase an i7 needs a good baterry,

thick cooling pads or what ever you call them

i have an alienware m15x it's an i7 and i'll tell you the i7 is a big processor,

i got the liquid cooling and all to keep it cool and it rapes the battery time

  • @nzcookiemonster

that is not correct infoormation the new macbook pro are coming on the 26th of january 2010.

intel are releaseing there new cpu on a 35nm silcon wafer which will proudce less heat than the 45nm and will consume the standered 35w for mobile cpu's, however apple may not introduce this in new macbook pro in january due to the fact that the cpu incorperates intel crappy intergrated gpu on to the cpu die.

  • How does crucials memory compare to the already installed mac memory in terms of quality?

  • great vid. i have a 4 gb ram and 500 gb hd on the way for mine. what type of watch are you wearing btw

  • Hi, its a U-Boat.

  • super nice work

  • ddr3 ram hallo!!!

  • does any one know any good sites for cheap hard drives

    thanks

  • does this void you warrenty??

  • yes it does void your warranty but how are they going to know. just don't screw up installing it or they will know.

  • It actually doesnt. In the manual it says that you may replace computer parts at your own risk, but if the macbook pro is damaged, the warranty is void. not if you do it properly.

  • Comment removed

  • thats basically what i just said

    just don't mess up

  • no, it does not

  • what type of RAM do i need to buy

  • Thanks for taking the time out to do and post this. I just did a hard drive upgrade and didn't know about the T6 hex screws so I appreciate ya!

  • im confused - aren't U suppose to reinstall the OS X when upgrading a HDD?

  • ya i think your suppose to reinstall because you took out your old hard and the operating system that was installed on it. but he use time machine so i don't know if that had to do with anything.

  • no u supposed to use super duper to clone ur old hard drive

  • hahah wat der labbert das es eine neue hdd wäre das ist die gleiche wie mein macbook pro

  • good video!

  • Great info -really clear and concise-but the music's really irritating!!

  • Thank you for a fantastic video, you have made it look simple! When I get my Macbook Pro I shall be following in your exact footsteps.

Can the MBP accept any size hard-drive?

Also can you do these upgrades on just a Macbook?

    Many thanks once again.

  • you need a 2.5 inch sata drive. they are usually categorized under notebook drives.

  • Sorry I think you miss understood, I meant is there any limit of data size?

  • like harddrive size?

  • Yes, if I go out and buy a hard drive is there a size limit to what I can buy?

    I already know it's a 2.5" drive, but I mean data size?

  • 500GB is the limit on a 2.5" drive - not limited by the MacBook but limited by manufacturers of the HDD manufacturers.

  • not true, i have found at dick smith a 2tb for 340 dollars and its 2.5inch internal has 7500rpm

  • yeah its 500gb

  • yes it can up to 500 gb. thats the biggest you can get for a 2.5 inch drive

  • After doing a little investigation I've managed to find a 750gb and 1tb 2.5" internal sata drive.

Looks like I'll be having either a 1tb drive or a 300GB Western Digital VelociRaptor in my machine instead :D

Thank you for your comments though guys!

  • woooooo i didnt know that existed.

  • how it is done that there is already OS X on the hard drive??

what do i have to do when i want to replace the hdd with an ssd?

  • watch his video with cloning the HDD with super duper application

  • Comment removed

  • haha im watching the wrong macbook vid :P

  • can a hdd be replaced with an ssd using this method?

  • yes

  • hi im about to update my 13 inch mbp to a 320 gig 7200 rpm drive. i got one question: Do i need to reinstall macos10 in the new driver after the upgrade?

  • yes

  • yes you will need to reinstall mac os x on the new drive and if you have a time machine back up you can leave it the way it was before the upgrade including applications, files and settings

  • will this void the warranty?

  • Hi, is SATA and SATAII the same thing? if not, a macbook pro can also use SATAII?

  • Does this brake the warranty or the terms of service of apple? Or if yes, is there any way for the apple guyz to now?

  • Well DONE!! great guide!!

  • awesome guide btw what kind of watch is that ???

  • Its a U-Boat

  • did you really have to show you unscrewing all 10 screws lol

  • This was the first vid guide I did before using video editing apps - sorry!

  • I was just playing anyways, nice informative video. actually helped me upgrade my ram from 4gb to 8gb. Have a good day!

  • where did you get the 8gb ram? Cost?

  • the upgrade is of 4gb 2x2 ddr3 but you can get the 8gb kit at ebay for about $700 dlls or directly from apple for about $1000

  • I swaped the Harddisk right now, but i think i would make a ram upgrade too, this video shows that its very easy ... thx :)

  • Thanks!

  • its a shame, the older macbooks had easier access to the HDD

  • hi, do you still need to clone your hd if your mac is new?

    thanks

    joshua
