So right there, you have at least one person that turned out 'okay' from a public school... Perhaps it is not the school's fault, but the failure of the teachers. =)

lol, i know you are not arguing that our public school system is fine. our public school system is frequently joked world wide and even here in our own country, especially by foreign exchange students. we basically dumb down our lesson plans so that the "slower" children can keep up. ever heard of no child left behind? dumbing down the children as a whole is all it is.

I'm saying that I turned out fine. And I attended a public school. I was well educated and continued my education into college, where I graduated near the top of my class.
I'm also not saying there aren't any problems. I know there are. But you can't encompass ALL public schools on that list of 'Failing'. Mine did just fine. There were others nearby that I would lump onto the 'Failing' list though. I'm saying it's about the teachers, not the school.

Law Obeying? Yes, the U.S.A. was founded on 'obeying' the rule of Law.
Tax Paying? Yes, pays for the services both state and federal provide.
Consumers? Yes, if we were not, our entire economy would implode completely.
Brainwashing? Call it what you want, but to me, children SHOULD stay in school and NOT do drugs. But that's just me...

Obama can go to a local school in DC... that's fine! Read an entire Sesame Street book to the kids! That's great.. just don't do a nationwide broadcast that does absolutely nothing except advertise yourself.

nobody took his right to free speech away. obama originally planned on having the students write a paper about how they could help the president. the president isnt here for We The People to help, hes here to help and serve We The People, and that includes our children. why would our children need to help the president? help him do what? i dont see how it is bitter, pathetic or low for a parent to worry about what their child learns in school. maybe you could explain this further?
