@TheKPRZ those slices in the final were probably the only thing wrong in Gonzalez's game that year. He was pretty much perfect in the other six, firing countless winners and committing less than 10 unforced errors per match. on average federer makes 10 UE per set lol.

This was the FedExpress at his godly best. This final had some of the most unbelievable shot making by both players of almost any Grandslam final I had ever seen. Fed won Australian Open 2007 without dropping a set and this was in the middle of his career high 41 match winning streak. Djokovic had to play Fed in his prime here and got vaporized 6-2, 7-5, 6-3. haha

I think Gonzalez' problem was pretty obvious. Weak backhand, always slice, always cross court, so Fed just kept making him hit it until the dropped the ball short, then hit a wide angle and moved in to the net. Gonzalez can't pass off the backhand to save his life.

I actually think its a good tactic.The slice sets up the huge gonzalez forhand

The slice actually works well against two handers,making them go low and disrupt their balance,that along with a"higher net" cause opponents to hit the slice more passively.When they go inside out,they open up a huge amount of space which gonzo hits down the line.

And then BOOM!The forehand comes in and its over.
