gonzalez really sucks, he slices all fucking time. How did he even come to the finals? Unbelieveble, a professional tennis player should be able to hit a good backhand. Not Slice all the time.
@TheKPRZ those slices in the final were probably the only thing wrong in Gonzalez's game that year. He was pretty much perfect in the other six, firing countless winners and committing less than 10 unforced errors per match. on average federer makes 10 UE per set lol.
@VPR2001 That's because back then, his backhand sucked. He had absolutely no confidence in it. It's a wonder Gonzalez beat Nadal, given that Nadal's entire anti-Federer tactic is to attack the backhand.
This was the FedExpress at his godly best. This final had some of the most unbelievable shot making by both players of almost any Grandslam final I had ever seen. Fed won Australian Open 2007 without dropping a set and this was in the middle of his career high 41 match winning streak. Djokovic had to play Fed in his prime here and got vaporized 6-2, 7-5, 6-3. haha
Lol, it's actually Gonzo's slices that his 6 players could not handle, as well as the rest of his explosive game. On the 7th he met Roger. And that was that.
I think Gonzalez' problem was pretty obvious. Weak backhand, always slice, always cross court, so Fed just kept making him hit it until the dropped the ball short, then hit a wide angle and moved in to the net. Gonzalez can't pass off the backhand to save his life.
I actually think its a good tactic. The slice sets up the huge gonzalez forhand
The slice actually works well against two handers, making them go low and disrupt their balance, that along with a"higher net" cause opponents to hit the slice more passively. When they go inside out, they open up a huge amount of space which gonzo hits down the line.
Gonzalez just was not able to hit his huge FH in this match and that is becuase of the way Roger dictated that is Gonzo's best shot but Federer was just a step too far.
You can't beat Federer when he's playing like this. Nadal, Djokovic, doesn't matter. Even at their best they couldn't beat him when he plays like this.
how did federer nearly lose the 1st set ,another choke job from a finalist against federer that is why rafa owns him simply because he doesnt choke against him, gonzos' backhand is so weak and vunerable, how did he beat nadal,as rafa rapes backhands all day long
@adrenilenepotato Nadal couldn't handle the past era. There are crazy hardcourt players. Prime gonzalez hits good enough on his fh. Comparing with today's top 10 trash. An old federer plays like 50% of this video getting into SF and F easily tells it all. Nadal is lucky not to make this final.
I really thought federer would steamroll through this match because of how he destroyed Roddick and the head to head but he stood wtith federer the whole time and even had set points, excellent match from both players
does gonzalez even have a backhand stroke

@Maniac742 It doesn't work against Roger, you would think he would change it up during the 2nd or 3rd set.

@Jake1985Nazar In a way he pulled a Nadal because we all know Nadal plays the hell around Federer's FH

@chaostrigger14 Mainly though Rafa dominates Federer's BH and negates its affectiveness Gonzo could not do that.

@adrenilenepotato Gonzo has arguably the best forehand in the game when playing well. Nadal may have the strokes, but does he have longevity?
