I dislike the show quite a bit. I'm a guy, but if it's an accurate portrayal of women, I think it's very scary. Fortunately my girlfriend isn't like that. It reminds me of high school where being trendy, materialistic, and shallow was more cool than just being yourself like University and beyond. I also find the women to be incredibly unattractive in spite of being fairly good looking physically, their characters just repulse me and seem so stereotypical and one-dimensional that I can't help

I used to love Sex & The City because it truly is an accurate portrayal of men and women and romantic relationships. Real sexual liberation, is about truly truly being comfortable with who you are and the choices you make, Youve just contradicted yourself because you are not allowing her to be comfortable with who she is (a woman who likes casual sex), and the choices she makes (having sex and buying shoes). This is a really intuitive and thoughtful viewpoint. It is a depressing fact that these models of "womanhood" are emulated - leaving little but a trail of emptiness. whether you like it or not, these "women" ARE already intended to be role models. Sadly, they are what our market-economy-driven media wants them to aspire to,despite a blatent lack of substance. Historically, Women have been the more socially constructed gender. Generally speaking (NO OFFENSE), few women can actually move outside of societal constraints to think for themselves. This show has worsened this, and has confused both male and female both as to what their valuable assets truly are.

I'm not the one implying that these characters are role models. The many many many women who openly admit to finding these characters inspirational and model their lives after do. This show is widely acclaimed as a powerful feminist statement, that is what I take offense to. If people watched the show with the same guilty pleasure as watching say, Jerry Springer... fine, I wouldn't be bothered to comment. But they don't, millions of women watch this show as if it represented the ultimate ideal.

I never thought this show was about in powering women. To me Sex And The City, is a story about female friendships and what they experience with men. If Sex And The City was a serious show it would have never lasted for 8 years.

I think you're very right. It not meant to be a serious show from the beginning. It's not about telling you what you should be. The main dish of this show AND the movie is about friendship. The show was about finding love. falling in love, falling out of love, loving the wrong people, making mistakes, and most of all it was the friendship of those woman. If you never bothered to find out exactly what it is you can't just assume it's what it is by the title.

When you describe Samantha, you talked about real sexual liberation is being comfortable of who you are, and the choices you make. I think she has no problem being comfortable of who she is, and the choices she make. She is clear and forward about her desires of continuously seeking sexual pleasure and very comfortable in being who she is. Then, she was labeled as a slut when she infact did follow your definition of "real sexual liberation".

What really kept me watching the series was the bonding of these woman. I didn't get why you didn't get the impression that these women didn't genuinely cared for each other. Friends fight, they argue, it doesn't mean they don't care.

After watching the series the only thing that managed to stick to my mind were the touching moments of connection of these women; carrie's 35th birthday when they talked about soul mates, Miranda's wedding slash Samantha's breast cancer, how Charlotte was able to put aside "her style" and gave miranda a miranda-style baby shower.. etc. Oh dear. I think it's pretty genuine.

All tiny nuances in a very well written character. Overarching theme of the video was very Mirandaesque. Don't get me wrong however the character of Miranda annoys me greatly, especially the chewing with the mouth open and general picking at every little thing when it's never needed (hence why the video annoyed me). The movie was great by the way.
