....in 1966 in Munich, Germany ......The Beatles in the Circus Krone....the audience...mostly girls...when completely mad!! I was not there but I have seen videos and my first wife was there....
This is a clip from The German show "Beat Club" and from the huge amount of clips I've seen from the show, it doesn't appear that enthusiam rattes very highly in their DNA!! I even saw one of the first appearance of the Jimi Hendrix Experience on the show, and the audience look as though they're watching "The March of The Penguins"!! Oh...didn't they smash up the cinema and slash the seats after seeing that one??!!
Too bad it's not one of Farlowe's best, decent enough, but a bit run-of-the-mill. And what about those rejects from Romero's "Living Dead" films shuffling around him, seemingly oblivous to one of the UKs most extraordinary and exciting voices in their midst. OK I know he was miming, but couldn't they have stuck him front of the Thunderbirds instead? I'm going to complain. Oh yes!
This song has an interesting history. The Rolling Stones recorded it during the "Aftermath" sessions, but decided to leave it off the album and give it to Farlowe instead. A year later, their version popped up on the American "Flowers" compilation, which consisted largely of tracks that weren't included on U.S. LPs up until that point. To this day, most British folks aren't really familiar with the original recording of this tune by the Stones.
I had this on 45 years ago, I bought it with a music mag (cant remember which) an it was sayin that Farlowe was a big collector of nazi memorabilia and often called black people "schwarzers" which is like the German for N*gger.... :( does any1 know any more on this?? seems a strange sitch for a "soul & blues" kinda singer.....
I don't know about Farlowe's racial views, but in the late 60s to early/mid 70s he ran a shop in North London selling wartime memorabilia - if memory serves, some of it was German army gear.
He collected ALL war memorabilia, not just Nazi stuff. He had a shop on Upper Street, North London where he sold the stuff. He's not a Nazi or anything like that, he's just fascinated with collecting medals etc
Thanx faerie, it was just something I read and couldnt really believe, so I stuck the Q+A on here. Farlowe IS a 4kn legend btw!! it just seemed strange for him to talk like that. But recently Ive had dealings with the media/press and most of them are scum that write ANYTHING to fill newspaper inches. sad but true.
No prob. From what I can remember people saying, Chris is a likeable bloke. I don't think he would have been very popular with his shop nor his singing career if he had that attitude lol Ugh, the bloody press have to bring all people down who don't kiss their arses. He probably didn't want to talk to them or something one day and so they wrote that. Gits.
i wished he was touring in America

Good singer, but this puts me in the mind of Pat Boone's version of Tutti Frutti. In other words, very pedestrian.

Is there something wrong with this guy? He looks a bit on the emotionally arrested side. And why is he trying to sound like an old black man?

Chris Farlowe is about 70-years old now and still has an amazing voice! I went to see him in the summer and he was brilliant!!!!

Farlowe reminds me a lot of Bill Medley of the Righteous Bros, eh?

I was wondering why I hadn't heard of him before. That whole Nazi thing could have something to do with it based on what is here.

"schwarze" doesn`t mean "niggers",it`s just the german word for "blacks".

Jagger looks more comfortable on stage and moves much better than Chris Farlowe. Plus he is a much better song writer....
...his voice isn't in the same class, though ;-)
