  • AHHHHH!!! love <3<3<3 better than the beach boy's one

  • Totally pointless song, but beast :D

  • What possessed such a terrible band to cover such a great folk song?

  • Way too polished sounding, they sound like a grown up Disney boy band. :(

  • @brettbott polished because they sang it perfectly?

  • Comment removed

  • I am biggest beach boy fan ever and you guys sound amazing...good job

  • nothing beats me first and the gimme gimmes

  • nothing beats me first and the gimme gimme

  • @akemoguy "me first and the gimme gimmes" SUCK. They're a horrible poser band without talent. For Christ's sake they don't even play this song. They scream these lyrics to the chords and beat of "Teenage Labotomy" by the Ramones. How Pathetic. At least these guys are playing the real chords: G--D--G--C--Am--G--D--G--D.

  • @MuckyPup1969 poser band lmfao!!!! wow

relient K gay ass christian band

the whole point of the band is punk rock and stealing other peoples music

and its awesome so piss off u dont like it

anyways the lead singer of relient k sounds like girl

  • @akemoguy lol dude why are you here? leave. I'm telling you to leave your own home. i'm telling you to physically go outside... for your own good or else i'll be there.... and i'll get dozens of people..... to preach the word of god to you. we will preach to you until you find god ^_^

  • @antlerman1357 becuz somebody told me too check out this cover, thats why, and dozens of people to preach the word of satan, and trust me u will find satan

  • @MuckyPup1969 You have no life. Relient K is obviously a very talented band. You obviously have no taste in music. what a loser

  • Man! this is definitely better than the Beach Boys version. AWESOME! o_O

  • @aaron08ify no way i love the beach boys and they will always have the best version it's more original but i still love relient k

  • this is good but it sounds so stupid, thank God for Brian Wilson who changed the lyrics to make sense.

  • Anyone who thinks Relient K uses autotune has obviously never seen them live.

  • Autotune?? Are you retarded??? Matt can sing better than most people today and sure as hell can sing better than you so shut up.

  • the original lyrics are feel so break up! check it out. The john B sails (original name) was a folk song that the beach boys covered

also relient K is a very talented band, ive followed them for some time, they have no need for autotune, hear them live and you will see, its harmonizing that is heard not voice modulation. and if you listen closely you will hear a few flats throughout the song especially at the end. explain those to me if its autotuned

  • @thanMan102 Yeah I love the "Break up" cause that is how Bahamians and other West Indians talk. There is a Guyanese/Trinidad term called "Cook up" I love West Indians. Too bad there are no other dancehall versions of this song except a british ska version by the vibrators, just has annying intro and he says "Broken up"

  • this is <3

  • I'm so happy that Matty T likes Beach Boys and that they did this song. It's amazing. <3

  • johnny cash did a version of this song. it was called i want to go home. original eh? :P

  • Ahh good old beach boys! lol

  • No autotunes ! Matt can sing that's all !

  • There is definitely auto-tune on this. No need to get offended over it haha, doesn't mean they can't sing.

  • not even close to the beach boys version... the smoothness of their douchebag voices ruins the song. i'm sick of that gay little accent that the guys from every punk band have when they sing too

  • @milkmilkmilk17 hell yes i hate that little like john mayer or whatever accent bands nowadays sing with its so fucking gay

  • There's no way this is autotuned. You can still hear the natural "imperfections" in the vocal pitch. I use that word with quotes because the "voice is imperfect" attitude is what created bland vocals in today's pop music. Autotune does have its place when blatantly robotic tones are desired, but if used in any other way, the entire band might as well be synthesized.

  • @TheEqualyzr Auto- tune is used very lightly in this song. The engineers in this situation did not use it correctly however because you can hear it when Matt sings "town" at about :20 or :21. I don't think it's wrong for RK to use it in this situation. You know they dont use it live, but since this was a recorded session that would be publicized, they did add a subtle use of Antarez auto-tune FX on each VOX track just because its hard to keep perfectly on pitch when you're singing high harmonies

  • The entire fucking song is ruined from beginning to end. The guy doesn't even get the lyrics right!!!! "the grandfather and me"? Really? This is the most awful cover.

  • @DeathsBite I can ignore most of the wrong lyrics... that part that gets me is when they say "I feel so break up"... it's "broke up"... Other than that, though, it's a nice cover.

  • @MagdaRose85 Well if you look at it the Lyrics are almost perfect for the Kingston Trio Version because they use the "I feel so BREAK UP"

Entonces la letra esta bien. (So the lyrics are fine)

So lets chill a little. Thank you, I really like this Version.

  • @DeathsBite they were probally fully aware of the changes, and probably did it intentionally to avoid paying royalities.

  • Great vocals and nice harmony! How long has this band been around? I don't know anything about them. They did a bang-up job on this song!

  • @galoon ....How have you not heard about Relient K??? They are so much fun!! Definitely one of my top ten bands. Ever.

  • @parakaters I don't know how I missed these guys LOL! They're excellent!

  • You guys saying the autotune ruined this song......you are idiots....I am a producer/musician signed to management and a label....there is aboslutely NO autotune whatsoever in this song. Get a life and learn something about music.

  • There's a stigma that's associated with auto-tune thanks to artists like T-Pain and more recently, Rebecca Black. But really, it's ubiquitous in pop music. Anyone who is familiar with the process of music recording will agree with me that there is auto-tune in this rendition. If you can't hear it in the three-part harmonies, listen for it in John W.s backing vocals during the chorus.

  • @digginholes05 They sound like this live. this is not autotuned. There are actually people this gifted and blessed.. if you dont agree, listen for the flat in the middle part in the last measure. there are other parts where that voice is flat enough to barely make out to the trained ear, but the rest of it is actually that good.

    sorry to burst your bubble.

  • @parakaters You completely missed my point! However, I will not argue with you. This is good music so let's just enjoy it!

  • I'm not a big fan of Relient K, but this is almost as good as the original. Bravo RK.

  • EVERYBODY, JUST CHILL THE FUCK OUT AND ENJOY THIS BEAUTIFUL RENDITION OF A GREAT SONG!

  • some people should realize that autotune isn't just for ppl who can't sing. Its for effect, like in this song.

  • @dookiehead Really? Autotune? You do realize that an acoustic song means NO ELECTRICITY - INCLUDING AUTOTUNE. These guys are the bomb. Even if it can be subtle, it wouldn't be this subtle, as if it weren't there? Also, both matts were in their school choir so... I don't know what you have left to say or how you feel, but check the facts.

  • @PandaceMcFrizzle ok, so they played acoustic. but you're also aware that the song was recorded with electricity right? the microphones they're singing into are using electricity to run? and that the bass player is actually plugged in? and that this track was eventually mixed and mastered using electricity? and that the obvious auto tune was then implemented (with the help of electricity) to ENHANCE the vocals. no doubt these guys can sing, but their voices are slightly digitized on this track.

  • I commented on this video a year ago, and I stand by my conclusion. Very obvious autotuning. Which has nothing to do with singing "well" or "good" -- it's simply obvious to hear the digitization of the vocal waveforms. You can clearly hear the vocals flutter at 2:26 when he is singing "Whoa yeah". I'm sure he's a good singer, but that doesn't mean the producer didn't tune those vocals up to make them tighter.

  • this is 100% auto tuned...anyone with half an ear can hear it. the first "hoist up the john b sails" is clearly auto tuned. not saying they are bad singers, but lets be honest, these guys couldn't hold a candle to brian wilson and the beach boys.

  • @dookiehed you have got to be kidding me. Autotune is obvious because as the voice changes increments, it changes the voice's tune by a whole step. Autotune has a clear distinction and I can promise you there is no autotune here. And if you were a true Relient K fan, you would know that they are actually all fantastic singers. If you still don't believe me some songs to prove this are: In Like a Lion (always winter) and Beaming

  • @95shayj yeah definitely not kidding you. you are aware that just because someone uses auto tune they dont have to sound like t-pain right? you can be very subtle with it.

and i'm not a relient k fan, i was just searching for beach boys covers. if you want to hear what this cover sounds like WITHOUT auto tune then search relient k live at the apple store in san francisco and watch it (begins around 6 mins). while they are very good singers, they are clearly flat at some points.

  • @dookiehed You're an idiot, who are you to judge their singing? Just because a group is good at singing dosen't mean they use autotune. Notice that in this video there are singing mistakes, it's a live recording, not a recorded and produced track. Try again.

  • @95shayj you're right, i did judge their singing. i said they are very good singers actually. regardless of their singing ability, there is still auto tune on this track. i'm really not sure a) what your actual argument is and b) why you're upset about whatever you're arguing about. auto tune doesn't have to change the voice "a whole step," you can just tweak the pitch slightly. this video is a prime example of auto tune being used to enhance a good singer's voice. got it? whiny ignoramus.

  • @dookiehed actually anyone with half an ear that knew what they were talking about would know that when they say "hoist up the john b sails" it isn't auto-tuned. It sounds that way because they are doing 4 part harmony on that phrase...which when pop stars use auto-tune, they use it to create a harmony (usually 4 parts) so it sounds like what your used to with autotune. only with real musicians like relient k, it's actually 4 different ppl singing.

  • @relientofleeland41 no it sounds that way because the voice is slightly digitized. listen to some older beach boys albums, those are 4 and 5 part harmonies and you'll hear that there is no effect on the voice! why do you think auto tune is so bad? this band can sing very well, but auto tune can enhance and strengthen pitches to help "liven" up a track, however it is noticeable to anyone who has been recording music for the last decade. but relient k is a Christian band so they are perfect right?

  • I'm debating whether or not there is auto-tune in this track. If there is it isn't needed as the entire band can sing well live anyway.

  • believe it or not some people can actually sing in this world... just because pop artists and terrible commercials use autotune, doesn't mean everybody else does....

  • Amateurish and weak. Nothing like the original-sounds like a corn flakes commercial. Cant even get the words right

  • @HSECMAN which 'original' are you basing this off of? 'cos in all honesty, there's heaps of covers of this song...

  • Every artist touches up their vocals for album releases. Relient K obviously perfects their pitch when they master their album, as their note jumps in albums are perfect, and Matt's not capable of that in real life. But they still do have good voices without that help.

  • Who thinks they use autotune? You obviously aren't used to hearing real singers because everyone in this band can sing and sing well. And yes I recommend seeing them live to open your eyes to what a talented band looks and sounds like. Only the crap you hear on clear channel radio is usually autotuned. Those supposed "artists" don't deserve to be heard over bands like this.

  • @kwood82 Tbf, you can kind of hear some voice modulation. I still like it.

  • Pretty credible version of the Beach Boys classic. Banjo's a nice touch....

  • Anyone who thinks Relient K uses autotune has obviously never seen them in concert.

  • beach boys version is 100 times better

  • this version is making my ears bleed...

  • Just a language question... any difference that they feel break up instead of broke up? Any different meaning of that at all?

  • @biggestkrisfan Before it was popularized by the beach boys, sloop john b was best known as a folk song, and the original lyrics were "I feel so break up"

  • Comment removed

  • How great guys...Their version is even better than the original..Thanks to Tina who favourited ...and thanks to kden1085

  • I couldn't help but add you to my faves lol

  • super gut gecovert :-)))) Ich liebe diesen Beach-Boy-Song!!!!

  • This is cute, loved it! Best cover I've found by now...

  • The autotune ruined it. It would've been a great cover otherwise

  • @skatefallen91 True, this lot can sing in real life so it isn't needed.

To be fair though it isnt glee standard autotune so not tooo bad =P.

  • Yeah, its obvious that there is auto-tune, but I don't think it was because these people can't sing. I think it was just the style they were going for, and honestly I can say this is one of the few GOOD applications of auto tune. Excellent cover, I love the harmonies and their voices suit well together.

  • Autotune ruined this cover. These guys are talented enough that they should have tried doin' the harmonies without it. If you're flat or sharp once in a while, who cares? The Beach Boys were too.

  • @Palakto Autotune? You serious right now?

  • @EvansMoviesSuck

Yes...that's clearly autotune. I'm an audio engineer and work with it on a frequent basis. Even if I wasn't, anyone with any kind of ear can hear it. o_O Those obviously aren't natural sounding voices. Especially the bassist. He really had it on.

  • @Palakto where'd you get the idea that Thiessen has to use Autotune? his voice is incredible as it is. no effects here bro

  • @grindcoremaniac

Again. I work with it in the studio all the time. It's so blatantly obvious that i can't believe you guys can't hear it. :| I'm sure they're good singers without it, but it's a Beach Boy song where you need to have perfect harmony. There's no way I can prove it if you can't hear it. It'd be lovely if the artists could come out and say something.

  • @grindcoremaniac did you not notice that every single one of the band members are singing? it's called harmonizing. it's what the Beach Boys did as well. they all know how to sing in sync with each other.

  • einfach nur goil

  • This has to be my favorite cover of this song - I can't stop listening to it. I'm not at all persuaded they're using auto-tune, but it doesn't matter to me. It's a real treat to hear regardless.

  • There's not too many times I say this about cover songs..but this an excellent version!

  • lawl auto tune

  • @cursiver but have you ever seen them live ... it's magical

  • sweet cover. love the banjo!

  • wwooaa esta muy bueno

  • <3 Beautiful.

  • love this cover....

  • welllllll doneeee!

  • Tbh I thoroughly enjoyed this version-so well done to Reliant K!

  • there no pitch correction in the other live songs in this series of sessions

so if there is auto-tune or something like that (i don't know) why is it just on one song? Great song either way this one beach boys and Kingston trio

  • Comment removed

  • Great version!

  • Comment removed

  • They didn't auto tune it but their mics are like super-condensed!

  • Best copied version I've heard, apart from the "oh yeah" parts which don't suit the song. Good job.

  • Everybody who is downgrading relient k on this song.....you are either professionals and everything has to be perfect so you downgrade them...or you are amateurs that don't have a clue what you are talking about because I'm pretty sure relient k is legit. So keep your comments to your self please.

  • Comment removed

  • This is a really nice version, a lot like the Beach Boys.

  • my math teacher is named mr sloop. I definitely want to go home

  • Auto tune much?

  • @JensonBUTTONS Not at all! These are all really talented guys!

  • @JensonBUTTONS Auto tune? Are you THAT stupid? Listen to them live. THEN say auto tune. Dumb nuts

  • @Craigguitarist1

You quite obviously have no idea what auto tune sounds like dipshit. Do some research then come back to youtube with your tail firmly between your faggot legs.

  • @Craigguitarist1

Auto tune was made for live performances, twat.

  • I first learned it by the Kingston Trio. I thought I'd be disappointed with Relient K singing it but was surprised. They do a nice job.

  • That was actually really good for a cover I'm not gonna lie I wasn't expecting this.

  • Wow! What a fantastic version!!! Great job fellows!

  • Comment removed

  • one of the only bands that sounds the same on the CD AND live!!!!!!

    :D

  • i miss dave :(

  • Great harmonizing .... and great remake of this beach Boys classic

  • dude! they can like totally pull this off...its like crazy

  • wow catch 22s cover is way better

  • Wow !!!! It's the best interpretation I listened !!!!!.......Congratulations, guys !!

  • this is one of those songs that sound so good because it harmonically just makes sense. it sounds sweet to the ear, you know?

  • relient k is awesome!!

  • Well done lads.......the beach boys would approve! im sure. Great to see young people singing these classics!

  • @R0undAboutMidnight and I suppose the Beach Boys were gritty. Or maybe you are referring to the Kingston Trio's version. But of course you are from the Bahamas; you know what the gritty versions sounded like.

    Loser.

  • wow Hopes is a really good singer and so is John Warne.

  • 78720, the beach boys actually didn't write this song. It's been around since ww1, taken from a novel. Can't remember who wrote it, though. The line "I feel so break up" is actually the original verbage. Johnny Cash said "I feel so homesick" which I think is a lot more fitting for a song about a sailor.

  • autotune

  • this song is soooooo catchy love it!

  • wow!

  • Beach boys love there song, this is one is ok not good but ok lol

  • turn yer bass down and sing emotion boys ...you have NONE!

  • holy auto-tune

  • @dsamore seriously!

  • ahahah rk ftw<3

  • Don't worry about platypibri's statement, he's probably a disgruntled person , I think Your versions great so let that other guy take a hike .

  • I love this version! Does anyone know why they say "I feel so break up" instead of "I feel so broke up"?

  • @sarahjeanne18 I wondered about it myself.

    From Wiki:

Brian Wilson changed the lyrics in three of the lines of the song. He changed the lyric "This is the worst trip since I've been born" to "This is the worst trip I've ever been on". He also changed the lyric "I feel so break up" to "I feel so broke up". The line "Broke into the people's trunk" is changed to "Broke in the captain's trunk".

  • @breezebro Thanks! Very interesting :)

  • I don't know the difference between auto tune or not, but I know Matt Thiessen can sing, and Relient K are awesome talented. It wouldn't surprise me if they could do this without.

  • i love the beach boys but this definitly is better than the originals. johnny cash as well.

  • It would be a decent cover if the voices wen't auto-tuned.

  • @BrandonHerritt The voices arent autotuned, there is a difference between autotune and harmonisation, I mean there may be a tiny bit done but not a lot and I mean the members of relient k can all sing so it doesnt matter, glee on the other hand is autotune on steroids

  • @limetang no autotuning this is called talent no black eyed peasing haha

  • acoolfool......

go and find something imprtant to do instead of being and talking about other's defects....at least hes doing something good and Praising the Lord with his talentt..............while you

wasting ur time talking about others....

  • I like grits and rye for making vodka and aged...No I don't want to go home!

  • love it

    and love relient k

  • bull shit

  • is this a cover of the johnny cash one?

  • More like Brian Wilson and the beach boys arangement

  • I think it's the beach boys more. :)

  • @mombus From Wiki: Brian Wilson changed the lyrics in three of the lines of the song. He changed the lyric "This is the worst trip since I've been born" to "This is the worst trip I've ever been on". He also changed the lyric "I feel so break up" to "I feel so broke up". The line "Broke into the people's trunk" is changed to "Broke in the captain's trunk".

  • @breezebro he actually changed 'worst ship' to 'worst trip'

  • @garygak That's what I always thought but Wiki said otherwise so I didn't say it.. I think they're probably wrong this time.

  • @garygak who changed it? i se trip in teh lyrics. also i can almost swear i hear " i feel so break up, i wanna go home" when it should be broke up, ( lyrics) either way i like it

  • @yamahonkawazuki It's originally a traditional folk song called 'Histe Up the John B. Sail' popular in the 20's. When the beach boys covered it the changed 'this is the worst ship' to 'worst trip' as a drug reference. and 'break up' 'broke up'. But they weren't the first ones to play with the lyrics or general feel of the song. Check out Johnny Cash's version from '59 and other pre-beach boys versions.

  • @garygak Wow cool. i sincerely appreciate teh history of this. i honestly did not know it. thank you. now ill have to dig up the other versions, and if i can find teh ww1 era recordings

  • This is the best cover they've ever played.

  • this is so great better than the original

  • Like it, 'nuff said.

  • did you seriously just say that their "sound was boring"...when they are playing a cover? wow...you suck at life.

this is an amazing cover. crucial harmonies.

  • @thecleaze hell yeah this is an awesome cover. they nail the harmonies on point.

  • @thecleaze well it misses flute and a lot of other interesting stuff, which makes it, compared to the Beach Boys version, boring. The singing of the lead singer is also very uninspired. Overal it's a far more flat, radio-friendly version. So, yeah, it pretty much sucks (although it's technically good!).

  • @thecleaze ive got to agree. i heard this groups name from another so called expert on yt. idk whom i like the best to be honest. KT idk if i liked alot. good yes but different. teh beach boys ive known longest, but i kinda like this one too

  • @thecleaze I agree with whoever. This is boring.
