i'd say the Sepultura version sounds really dark and it seems to be fueled by their own Brazilian Upbringing and the life they had to live and witness growing up
The photos of the dead soldiers from the U.S. Civil War really lend a striking sense of authenticity to this video. I'd like to sit in a bare room made of video screens-walls, floors, and ceilings- while the intro plays over and over. I may finally find some peace.
I like how both versions of this song express slightly different emotions concerning the same issue (seeking justice where the system has failed). Sepultura's version seems to come from a perspective of youthful anger and a fast burning passion. The original also has the same sense of anger, but from a more mature perspective (i.e. serious thought given to what must be done and the consequences). Passion burns with NMA's version, but it's more controlled, and slow burning.
This is an NMA song. It is their feelings, their beliefs, their passion. Sepultura covered it because they liked it. To say Sepultura's version is better is disrespectful! You may prefer their version because you like their style of music, but it is not "better". This is classic NMA with fire in their belly. I like NMA covers because I like to hear other bands interpretations of NMA songs. Say you prefer other versions but there would not be plagiarism without the original.
@NoobyStonk I was unaware that the modern definition of "plagiarism" was "covering a song and acknowledging its original artist."
Sepultura's cover, as stated elsewhere, is a more angrier interpretation of the song, whereas NMA's original is more solemn and introspective. Both are great in their own right.
@xjapanesesteelx sepultura did a great version but you can't compare the versions as they may be the same song they are played in different genres. so it comes to matter of opinion, I like both but prefer this.
@chickencharlie because this guy can actually sing instead of making the same gurgling sound over and over again? And no: I don't have anything against screaming/shouting/etc.. BTBAM and PTH belong to my favorite bands.
@Nacaer apparently its about his brother being addicted to something and their hunting for the person who got him on it..and the lyrics shows that their taking back the city from the drug dealers by being vigilantes "no police no summons,no courts of law"
@chickencharlie The problem I have with Sepultura's version is that while yeah, it's heavy, they don't sound like they get it. This song has a tricky mood, and nobody does it like NMA.
I seriously fucking hope nobody thinks this is a cover of Sepultura. This is the original, better version. I love the lyrics about Vigil Antey justice. In my head I picture Northern Ireland in the 80's with the NRA shit going on all over.
Great video! Don't take any notice of the comment below. I'm bloody critical of all all video and film work and with resources to hand you done a good effect.

Sorry, old boy, I trace English liberty back before 1642.

I saw both bands before Sepultura had there version...I had already this version and was surprised when I bought Chaos A.D. and listened...one of the guys was also wearing an New Model Army shirt (see booklet of the digipack).
Extreme metal would not exist if it were not for punk you fool. Thrash was in punk before it was in metal. In 1980 Circle Jerks played way faster than any metal band at the time. Even Lemmy would tell you that. BTW New Model Army never broke up and are around today.... just like Seputura, they only have one original member left.

All the bitching about which version of the song better is pretty lame... Personally, I like the NMA version better but to be honest, I would never have known about the band if not for the Sepultura version. They're both great but in different ways.
That said, dude... You can't defend Sepultura. Chaos AD was their last decent album.
NMA are still alive and kicking the snot out of that shitty crap Sepultura tried to pass off as a cover of this. Btw, NMA are still not only touring, but their still knocking out kick ass albums that kick the crap out of manufactured american groups. NMA Will never die, and can i say thank F*ck.
NMA version is the ORIGINAL, sepultura only covered it.. who cares which is better, if NMA never played it, i dont think sepultura would have though of it, do you?? and considering that
Wagner Lamounier Jairo Guedes Max Cavalera Igor Cavalera are no longer with sepultura, its hard to say sepultura are great, because they will never be the same as they used to be since Chaos A.D. and Roots. so are sepultura stil good? i dont think so. NMA are still touring around, saw them a couple of yrs ago
The lyrics to this mirror my thoughts on the justice system and how it sucks. Sometimes i would like to dish out my own justice on fucking drug dealers, rapists and child molestors
notice: Sepultura weren't on earth, if there wasn't Slayer or Holy Terror. Their whole existence is based on them. And rhat's not my opinion, that's fact ;-))
Having been a fan of this song/band since the early days, I was amazed that Sepultura covered it. When I got Chaos A.D. I was blown away. Both versions are awesome in their own rights!
I've known this song for like 7 years now, but only in Sepultura's version. Their cover was very good, but the original is much better. Awesome track.
I think both versions are great. One of the very few covers as good as the original I think. In their version sepultura clearly put just as much heart into it (and probably more energy) as NMA - they clearly genuinely understand, and aren't just covering it because they like the band.
The guitar has a sort of Dead Kennedys feel. I like that it's not another generic metal cover ala Hatebreed (Refuse/Resist). No better or worse, but different.
hm....sepultura's has more energy. ofcourse without this you wouldn't have sepultura's....but i dunno, i still prefer the cover over the original. This one sounds more dead than moody/dark.
Both versions are good. This is more emotional, but I have always liked the extra energy that sepultura add to it. They seem to be good at that with their cover songs - the same can be said fortheir version of orgasmatron.
I usually prefer originals, but the sepultura has to be at least as good. For some reason I expected this to sound more similar to Sepultura's version...They are the best cover versions - the ones that respect and don't insult the originals, but make the song different and individual enough to make it worthwhile.
Thanks for putting another NMA video up. I listened to Green and Grey on my way to boot camp in 92. Their music still moves me very much. Lots of memories. Pity they dont get the respect they deserve here in the U.S.
But it's still a cover.
