I find the softness and tenderness in his voice very moving. Yet there's not a hint of sentimentality. This Pelleas is no weakling. Perhaps it's this combination of virility and tenderness that makes Allen's portrayal so touching.
Allen does a fantastic job of conveying Pelleas' mesmerised/loving state just through his voice...one doesn't even have to watch him to imagine what he's feeling. I love the very softly sung and repeated 'Non's.
i always wondered why Melisande says everythings twice. ;)
