Robbin played just fine...there's nothing wrong with being 'blues-boxed' or being a 'pentatonic-Pete...' solos are about feel and what complements the song...sure, Warren knew how to shred (by comparison), but let's not forget a couple things....Ratt was Robbin's baby (back when it was Mikkey Ratt...if I remember the spelling right), as it was Pearcy's...and secondly, and most unfortunately, Robbin got too caught up in the excesses, which would dull ANYONE'S potential after a while. :s
How is it that Robin never improved on guitar? If I were around Warren day and night, I'd be riff-wicked too. Robin just played blues-box solo's until he died. (RIP)
Seriously, where did bands find the things they wore on stage back then? This was at the same time Motley was wearing their leather during the Shout tour. Crazy...
Damn, I really can't understand why Robbin stopped playing leads. With twin power of him and Warren they could pwn any other guitar duo like Downing/Tipton or DeGarmo/WIlton.
RATT was a great live band, that drum riser Bobby plays on is Tommy Lee's old one, you can see it in the Motley Crue Live Wire video. The Crosby & De Martini guitar duo was a very powerful one.
Finally a decent sounding Live Ratt clip. Much like the Crue, they tended to sound drunk, disorganized and sloppy live, with multiple mistakes from all band members. Ratt sounds very good here.
I also believe that Pearcy's style of singing with the throat at a high pitch did his voice in, and early. By the time Dancing Under Cover dropped, you could hear a noticeable difference. In concert, after the first leg, he was shot for the rest of the tour. Now it is shot all the time.
He sounds straight of the record here and I've never heard that from him before hearing this early stuff.
Wow. I recorded this on a Beta machine when I was about 11 years old. It's been at least 20 years, or more, since I've seen these "Pro-Shot" songs. Warren D always got credit as an incredible axe-slinger, but this live song proves that Crosby could play a mean guitar, too.
I remember I recorded this by mistake with our first vcr. lol. I was blown away and turned all my friends onto Ratt --Never heard of them. I remember they were announced as LAs hottest band...
@viktorhat We are a legion of Spanish rodents not too large but loyal to death. Check Ratt videos in Barcelona and places like these. You will see a good bunch of Ratt supporters. Greetings to Norway from Spain. Ratt forever.
I just love reading everyone's posts about who is the better guitarist. I have been a fan of Ratt since their EP before even Out of the cellar was released. Both of them were incredible musicians, however, Warren DeMartini will forever be remembered as a metal god. If anyone knows anything about Ratt's studio history , Robbin was not allowed or unable to play many solos due to his inability to pull them off. Robbin was great, no doubt, but Warren is a legend!!!
I saw these guys before Out of The Cellar was officially released , they played to less than 100 people at a place called Up All Night in NJ ... I saw them 6 months later at a sold out show at the Meadowlands Arena, that's how fast this band took off :-)
@ajh9783 It's very moving what you say. I was born 14 years earlier than you in Spain and we fought hard to get Ratt albums. They never played here because we were just a small country in Europe. But we followed'em and bought their albums. Unfortunately, a relative with drug problems sold my Ratt vinyls. I wish someone like you'd bought'em and now is a Ratt maniac. Never stop ratt'n'rolling, man. Be Ratt.
If I ever get to speak to Warren or Juan, I want to know what Warren said to him during Robbin's last solo.
Juan said that Warren tended to say demeaning remarks and he got into a dispute with Robbin about sharing lead guitar duties (from Dancing Undercover and onwards).
Although in a magazine interview, Robbin was keen on pointing out that solos never sold a song to anybody. In a post-Ratt interview, he hinted at the conflict by saying his new band wouldn't have arguments about who solos.
I agree with every thing you say. I know that Robbin said that he took Warren under his wing since he was so young. Although Warren was clearly the better player, he didn't show Robbin much respect.
I'd say you could chalk it up to being too young with tons to talent which often leads to a big head.
I just wished that Robbin would have handled things differently instead of turning to heroin. Maybe he'd still be with us today.

Another interesting fact. Producer Beau Hill once hired a lead guitarist to play some of Warren's solos, fearing Warren could not get the job done.
The band would not allow it and the hired gun was sent home!!!

I agree. If you search on YouTube for Robbin's last recorded solo you will find TONS of stuff I've typed about this issue.
Semi-likewise if you were to find the UK live video of Give it All (amazing insight on there).
I think in the early days of Ratt, Robbin was a very good player but when the drugs and drinks took hold, he went from being 8/10* to 7/10**.
* No better or worse than Kirk Hammett or Slash.
** On par with the Quiet Riot guitarist who is now Ratt's new rhythmist Carlos Cavaso.
