I know this is me just being picky, but Claire is a french name, and France wasn't yet a country at this point. I also realize that commentating on the historical accuracy of this show is an unrewarding task, so instead I'll just concentrate on how pretty Heath Ledgar is...Gosh he's pretty.
OMG look at how young Heath looks! This series didn't last long, but I never forgot his name. Hehe, I remember when I saw him again in "A Knight's Tale" and I just couldn't believe it!
could someone plz plz tell me the name and number of the episode where connor's standing on the cliff by the sea with the blue sky all around him and he yells or something????
* Whilst the original airing of the show in North America did not broadcast all of the episodes, when syndicated to Australia, Canada and the UK, all episodes were aired.
* Roar: The Complete Series was released on DVD on September 19, 2006. The 3-disc set includes all thirteen episodes, even those which were never aired in the United States.
* The following year, FOX created a similar series, Young Hercules starring Ryan Gosling.
One of the major villains in the program was Longinus, played by Sebastian Roché, an immortal cursed by God for interfering with His plans. Historically, Longinus was the centurion who stabbed Jesus Christ with his spear during the Crucifixion. This spear, the Spear of Destiny, was supposedly the only weapon that could release Longinus from his curse. The show freely mixed Christian hagiography, Celtic mythology, Druidism, and smatterings of history.
The show was created by Shaun Cassidy on the heels of the success of the syndicated programs Hercules: The Legendary Journeys and Xena: Warrior Princess. However, Roar was not very well received in the US and lasted for only one season (8 of the 13 episodes were aired in 1997, with the last 5 not broadcast until 2000).
In this fight for freedom, what is most important for Conor and his people is the Roar - the roar of the land, the roar of the people - a voice that echoes through every living creature and is the power of life.
Their primary struggle is against Longinus, a supernatural creature whose true essence is that of a 400-year-old Roman centurion ready to do the bidding of evil Queen Diana, an emissary of the Romans.
Roar chronicles the extraordinary life of Conor, a reluctant 20-year-old orphaned prince who must rise above tragedy to lead his people to freedom. Conor takes on a band of ragtag allies that include Tully, a teenage apprentice magician; Catlin, a beautiful former slave; and Fergus, Conor's big-hearted, ebullient protector.
Roar is an American television show that originally aired on the FOX network in the summer of 1997. In the year 400 AD, a young Irish man, Conor (played by Heath Ledger), sets out to rid his land of the invading Romans, but in order to accomplish it, he must unite the Celtic clans.
The acting in this show was not the best, nevertheless, this was my favorite show that i have ever seen, mostly cause of the plot of the show. I remember one day I saw on the tv, they were showing the whole series from beinning to end, and I watched the whole thing. lol, that was like 3 years ago
Heath was a good celt but the best Batman!! so fuck all who think so just cause he died!! i think he was cool but his death has made him overrated!! i dont even think he would have like all the over glory people have given him!! but like i said this role was perfect for him!! R.I.P Celtic Heath!!
ooooo damn you elvisc05....you are a fuckin' frustrate irish man....come on... he was so young....and he died so young...and he was the most talented...screw with you man
AHum... I never knew that the Irish fought the Romans. Do you know why? That's because they never did. However ... this clip has made me curious about this series. Starting with the Song of Amergin, that's pretty cool.
Actually archaeologists have found the remains of a small Roman fort in the Dublin area of Ireland, so it looks as if the Irish not only 'met' the Romans, but were not conquered by them. The Song of Amergin now, that's good to hear even in a slightly mangled version
Thanks for the info icenorum7. I guess the standard story of Ireland being outside the sphere of Roman influence has kept me from researching the matter further. Good of you to correct me on this.
Actually like Icenorum7 said...it's kinda true...the whole united kingdom was once part of the roman empire. The Goths, of france and that upper area were mostly roman during their rule...Caesar conquered some parts of it.
This was my favorite show when it first aired, completely captured me. It didn't hurt that I had just started reading Dragon Lance and Thieves' World at the same time. Or that I was 11...
This show was excellent! The cast was terrific also. I can't understand why this recieved bad reviews. It should have continued for at least a couple more seasons.
I know this is me just being picky, but Claire is a french name, and France wasn't yet a country at this point. I also realize that commentating on the historical accuracy of this show is an unrewarding task, so instead I'll just concentrate on how pretty Heath Ledgar is...Gosh he's pretty.

Why doesn't some big-time Hollywood producer like Sphincter Spielberg do a full-on epic about the Celts? I think that would rock!!

Brillant too bad the series was cancelled after 13 episodes due to low viewer rates, created by the man who did Xena + Hercules tv series

I never said that he wasn't talented, he was amazing in most of the things he was in.
Doesn't change the fact that he was awful in this.
Just because the guy died I can't give an honest opinion of his performance in this?
And regarding age, Di Caprio was the same age when he acted in What's Eating Gilbert Grape and This Boy's Life.
Tatum O'Neal won an oscar when she was ten sure....

This is awful.
Truely awful.
Whatever about Ledger being a great talent before he died...true enough.
But he is terrible in this...he cant hold an Irish accent.
People who aren't Irish shouldnt try Irish accents..it just doesn't work.

Wow, he was only 18.
He's so gorgeous.
