@floridajames04 You're one of the lucky ones. I had constant overheating issues (ZERO case fans), power issues (inadequate power supply to speed up cpu/gpu fans), and Vista issues (compatibility, crashes, etc.), among other things. It works okay now, but that's after swapping the PSU, putting new fans in, and installing 7 when I finally got access to it. It helped force me to improve my PC knowledge, but it was a lot of work for issues that should've been addressed in initial design.
don't buy a fucking gateway computer it sucks, wont let me download spyware and other shit.. sometimes the piece of shit doesnt even turn on. save your time and money and buy a HP or DELL.

The LX6810 is a peice of total junk! I bought one of these a little over a year ago and it just burned out the motherboard and processor! (of course this was just AFTER the warranty expired) I had been having problems with it over heating and shutting down until I went into the bios and set the cooler fan on the processor to run continously and installed 2 case fans. I noticed the case had spots for the fans, but Gateway was too cheap to install them.
@lenf2 - note of interest to those looking to install new fans - there are NO plugs for fan motors, only the main fan plug, so you will need some solder and electrical tape to cut into an existing power cable to wire in the fans, Alos the wires you need for a 12v fan are the YELLOW and Black. -
After doing all that it fried anyway. So now I am putting in a Gigabyte GA-EP45-UD3R motherboard with a Q9450 processor and 10GB or RAM. I am also replacing the powersupply as the one that comes with the LX6810 is only 400w, which will not run high-end video cards. After I get that all put in then I an adding 2 Nvidia GeForce 9800GT video cards and an M-Audio Delta 1010LT sound capture card. I will need to "re-design" the back plane to add the extra slots and put in a pair of new USB 3.0 cards.
If you buy this computer, I'd STRONGLY recommend adding a couple of decent case fans and swapping out the video card for a card with an external exhaust design. You shouldn't have overheating issues if you do that. Mine stays very cool with those modifications.

I got this computer around a year ago when it just cam out, i warn you to be careful when you get this. Make sure to buy a case fan because it doesn't come with one. Also its good to get a VERY good virus software. Its prone to overheating and shutting down if not kept cool, the processor also is like a big ass heater so leave room for it to suck in cold air. This computer does shut down randomly, it has no case fans. I ran it fine for 11 months and then I could only use it for 10 mins at a time - researched and found out about the fans. I did install two fans and it hasn't shut off since. It did play WoW okay at first but most people say to get a new video card and power supply along with the fans.
@shanhugs13 Thanks for that tidbit, I've been having the exact same issue with this computer in just the last couple of weeks and we've had the computer almost a year. I'm going to try some extra fans (it does have one dinky fan on the back) and see if that helps. I originally thought that it was the video card because it only seems to shut off when there is something involving high res video, games or TV shows like on Hulu, etc. I see that a few others have the same problem, we'll see I guess!

El problema era que se calentaba mucho el procesador y por eso se apagaba. Lo que hice fue limpiar el disipador con aire comprimido y cambiarle la pasta termica que va entre el procesador y el disipador... Estaba lleno de polvo y pelusa!

ANd I still haven't done the bios update, which i heard increases speed of cpu fan. So you see, with a little brains, you can make this computer worth your while.

I bought this computer and although it runs hot its nothing to worry about. Just clean the fans with compressed air (i also installed 2 80mm fans and 1 120mm fan. I also replaced the gpu with a 9800gtx+ and powersupply with a better one. It idles at 40c for cpu and 50gpu which is not amazing but it wont damage the computer, not for a while that is (will last a couple of years)
im going to buy this computer soon like 3 days and i dont want it to overheat so i found an extra 80mm fan from my old computer. my question to you is, is there enough space for another 120mm if so where?? plz respond much apre.
I just put an 80mm in the back but you could probably put a 120mm right on the side casing because there is a pretty large vent. It would be a good idea too...mine has overheated once since I installed the new fan. I was playing a game at the time though so another 120 on the side should hopefully fix that. Hope that helps!
I have this machine and it's been great other than that the gpu gets so hot that the failsafe shuts the whole system down. This seems to be a common problem and now that ive noticed ill have to make a trip into town for a cooling fan (molex needed) tomorrow. Hope it's not too loud.
the overheating problem with this desktop was tracked down to poor cooling. for one the cpu cooler gathers too much dust and the cpu overheats after 3-5 months. secondly there is no exhaust fan, so all of the components get very hot after a few hours.
gateway released a bios update that made the cpu fan run at 3200rpm. but this does not fix the underlying issues.
@lambition im doing some research on this as well, so far what i found out is that the computer will start overheating after around 3 months and all you need to stop the overheating is more fans...
POS.. Won't last you for years because it'll fall apart a 11 months later but for $500 what do you expect. Just buy the model they'll release next year :-)

I been using vista for over 2 years now, never had a single issue with the OS it self. (Driver and compatibility problem is there, but that applies to Windows 7 as well)
I find tons of horror stories with this PC and gateway on amazon and newegg customer reviews. There apparently is some design flaws with this computer. ( probably cooling issues and motherboard design issues)

This PC has a baisc design flaw that causes it to overheat and crash. The only way to fix it is to buy a CPU fan...tech support will lie to you and say it's a Windows problem. Liars...the proper thing for Gateway to do is ship a CPU fan to people experiencing this problem.
outside looks cool, inside not so. power supply shitty and missing cooling fans from rear and side. and max memory is 8GB thats full cap. cant upgrade if needed.
i got this computer for my birthday in march and have had absolutely no problems (aside from me messing it up with downloads and having to wipe it clean but taht was my fault). I hear that the reason it turns off and on frequently with some ppl is the dust built up inside of it so ive been told to open it up and dust it out every once and a while (which i haven't). i really use this computer for light gaming and tv so its perfect for me, all in all its awesome :D
@nsayn94 It started randomly turning off on me, so after about the 6th time it happened I opened it up, took it apart, cleaned out the dust from the cpu fan and heat sink (make sure you ground yourself before doing this), and it hasn't given me any problems since.
Cons: No case fan...this thing will eventually start overheating and shut down all the time untill you install a case fan (or two). Also, some of the stupid little features it comes with are poorly assembled or dont work. Negligible though.
Overall: Good computer, but it NEEDS a case fan. Best comp I have ever owned. Then again, I'm not really an "advanced user."

yeah the downside for the ram is that its slow, thanks to that you only get a 5.4 windows experience rating. 4 gigs of ddr3 will get you way better performance for a better price
yes there is along with a mic jack RWY input and firewire, its in a push out compartment under the cd slots and above the expansion ports for the hard drives

Actually I had the same problem. It would overheat constantly, and I noticed some voltage issues with it as well when gaming. So, I replaced the video card with an upgraded one...replaced the power supply with a 650watt antec, and got a new V1 thermaltek cooling system. I also added a few more case fans to push/pull air out of the case. Now, it's cooooool as can be and runs smooth.
you can swap it out with any graphics card that fits in the same slot. best guess will say its a PCI-e 16x so nearly any newer card will work in there...fitting it in between all that crude they shoved in there might be your only worry now since some cards take up two slots
someone els commented me and say it dose, i agre and desktop pc burn if they are over heated and in most case the video card starting melting down n the cpu burning, well that from what iv heard soo im gonna buy me some water coller n some extra fans
There is nothing wrong with Vista any more, I've had it since this past Christmas and have not had one single problem that was a direct result of the OS. Besides, xp couldn't take advantage of the 8gb of RAM. Bottom line is though, if your going to spend money on a quad core pc with 8 gigs of RAM, build it yourself, or get someone to do it for you. I don't understand why people still buy pre built pc's anymore. it's not the easiest thing in the world to do, but it's by no means hard either.
yeah but for a gamer the Q6600 is better, cuz it has a high multiplier (atleast the new revisions) so it overclocks like a beast. the Q8200 overcloks like dump.

All in all - don't buy the LX6810 - it is a lemon (check all the complaints on the web) - build your own instead - it is cheaper and better.

I have had 2 gateway FX computers and 1 e-machine and I will never buy them again the first one was in the shop 5 times in one year the other about 3.
I would recommend Asus,HP,Apple, Sony,Samsung,Toshiba and Alienware in no order but Apple and Alienware are my favorites.

I just ordered refurbished one for $440.
Now I do a google search, I'm finding tons of horror stories about this computer.
Lots of DOAs and overheating (possibly) related failures.
And you will have to pay for return shipping to get it repaired (even if it is DOA).
I just hope I have read reviews before ordering.. There definitely was a reason for selling refurbish so cheap. :(

I find tons of horror stories with this PC and gateway on amazon and newegg customer reviews. There apparently is some design flaws with this computer. ( probably cooling issues and motherboard design issues)

Is this computer SLI capable? 1 Nv 120gt is not really much, but if its possible to upgrade to another, or with another- then its pretty significant.

@jerec576 if you don't see 2 pci-e slots its not sli capable. Just go to a 9800gt,
4th best card of 2009 of Nvidia cards. 1024mb ddr3 256 bit memory interface
and is 140.00 retail.

Also if you go to w7, w7 is multithreaded so you should have better speeds on any games.

this computer is amazing, got it yesterday. I finally dont have to worry whether or not my computer can run games! (of course I bought a better video card and will install the fans too) the only problem I have is that i dont know how to use the A/V ports in the front. I connect my ps3 cables (red white yellow) and then look arround but nothing happens anyone know where to go?

This PC has a baisc design flaw that causes it to overheat and crash. The only way to fix it is to buy a CPU fan...tech support will lie to you and say it's a Windows problem. Liars...the proper thing for Gateway to do is ship a CPU fan to people experiencing this problem.

i got this computer for my birthday in march and have had absolutely no problems (aside from me messing it up with downloads and having to wipe it clean but taht was my fault). I hear that the reason it turns off and on frequently with some ppl is the dust built up inside of it so ive been told to open it up and dust it out every once and a while (which i haven't). i really use this computer for light gaming and tv so its perfect for me, all in all its awesome :D

@nsayn94 It started randomly turning off on me, so after about the 6th time it happened I opened it up, took it apart, cleaned out the dust from the cpu fan and heat sink (make sure you ground yourself before doing this), and it hasn't given me any problems since.

Bought this computer a few months ago.
Pros: Video hits em all.
Cons: No case fan...this thing will eventually start overheating and shut down all the time untill you install a case fan (or two). Also, some of the stupid little features it comes with are poorly assembled or dont work. Negligible though.
Overall: Good computer, but it NEEDS a case fan. Best comp I have ever owned. Then again, I'm not really an "advanced user."

yeah the downside for the ram is that its slow, thanks to that you only get a 5.4 windows experience rating. 4 gigs of ddr3 will get you way better performance for a better price

Actually I had the same problem. It would overheat constantly, and I noticed some voltage issues with it as well when gaming. So, I replaced the video card with an upgraded one...replaced the power supply with a 650watt antec, and got a new V1 thermaltek cooling system. I also added a few more case fans to push/pull air out of the case. Now, it's cooooool as can be and runs smooth.

yeah the card is not bad, its like a nvidia 8800 (actually they are the same only its integrated for the motherboard)
but i want to switch it out or stack ontop of it a nvidia 260 gtx super clocked card so i CAN play the most strenuous games ever.
ex: farcry 2 or crysis at highest settings possible.

you can swap it out with any graphics card that fits in the same slot. best guess will say its a PCI-e 16x so nearly any newer card will work in there...fitting it in between all that crude they shoved in there might be your only worry now since some cards take up two slots

There is nothing wrong with Vista any more, I've had it since this past Christmas and have not had one single problem that was a direct result of the OS. Besides, xp couldn't take advantage of the 8gb of RAM. Bottom line is though, if your going to spend money on a quad core pc with 8 gigs of RAM, build it yourself, or get someone to do it for you. I don't understand why people still buy pre built pc's anymore. it's not the easiest thing in the world to do, but it's by no means hard either.

yeah but for a gamer the Q6600 is better, cuz it has a high multiplier (atleast the new revisions) so it overclocks like a beast. the Q8200 overcloks like dump.

Rofl, The E8400 is a better overclocker then the Q6600. You can easily overclock it to 3.6ghz on STOCK cooling.
