  • Stop harping on how it is, British marches are weird and follow odd patterns, often including a repeat of the first strain or drum beat before trio, this has one of the drum, but they didn't use it.

  • they're supposed to sound distant. None of this is supposed to sound loud or fast. He told us to play it in the British military fashion, which is to "do what needs to be done and get out." dynamics should not vary dramatically, but go from pp to mf at all times.

  • Okay look. Dr. Hilliard, the editor, came and did a workshop with our band as we're playing this piece. Obviously, this is a *BRITISH* march. It is not a fast march, although this tempo could have been faster, and it is not a normal Sousa-esque march. The trumpets and upper winds should NOT be heard prominently. This piece is meant to have a fat, dark sound from (mainly) the baritones. Even on the trumpet one descant and the trumpet 1/2 held concert Eb notes at the beginning of the trio, they s

  • Ok people, It is supposed to be that slow. chillax

  • Funny thing is. I'm in middle school. And were playing it better than this

  • too fucking slow!!

  • To their credit, all the players hit all the correct notes, all the time. But music is more than just hitting the right notes. This lackluster performance is below tempo, utterly lacking in dynamic variation, without even a hint of interpretative effort. These hardworking students were not well-served by a conductor whose role was little more than a human metranome.

  • Agree w/ Coffee 107 - Better articulation on winds needed. Descant on Trumpet needs to PROJECT. Where is the Brass! Conductor: Tempo too slow for a march. Play on top of the beat, more dynamics needed along with a lighter Aire. No notable intonation or balance problems. More instruction on breathing technique (diaphram), and note attack will go a long way. UIL rating 2.

  • need more articulations in the woodwinds, it's suppose to be piano for the trumpets. idk how much you guys practiced this but, i know a band that plays this a lot better with better dynamics while marching without a conductor

  • that bassoon player in third row is sure getting into it lol

  • The director of this group played this piece in 1985 as a member of the Ohio State University Concert Band. I know this because I was there, too!

  • Entire Band: Laser Tongues Activated.

  • Well done. I had the good fortune to play this tune with the Marching Illini under Gary Smith in 1991. Since then, I have always loved it. I agree with the other poster that the tempo could have done with some more statelyness.

  • nice! my high school fight song came from the trio of this song.

  • This is too fast. This is British march. :\

  • Um...Trumpet fail at the Trio?

  • @PontiacG60 its a bit of a high range for trumpet. (especially 1st part) Suprisingly I heard alot of low brass.

  • SWEET!

  • Dynamic changes could stand out more.

  • im playing this this year i play 2nd baritone horn in my band

  • We are playing this too

  • Well done! Nice balance and blend... I would always like to hear a little more euphonium!

  • @MarkGiordano1 I would have played out more if my lips weren't dead after playing mendelsohn. but the euphonium part for this was kind of fun.
