Put me in any one of those planes and I guarantee that I can fly, maneuver and perform better than any of those pilots. Of course that won't happen because certain people wouldn't want me to prove that; that's why I probably won't be presented with the opportunity to pilot one of those type of aircrafts within my lifetime.
What? What's a terapyst? Did you mean therapist? I'm an U.S. F.A.A. rated pilot and I have a pristine flight record. Besides, 50% of those pilots are probably uncut, that's why it takes them 1000 hours to learn one maneuver. There's a video on 'Youtube' where a U.S.A.F. Colonel says that controlled flight into terrain is, "like a bad compressor stall". Those are the type of persons they let fly those planes. They need to see a, "therapist", not me.
Seriously, what type of jackass thinks that controlled flight into terrain is, "like a bad compressor stall"? That's like saying crashing a car into a hill is like an engine malfunction.
Thinking outside the box doesn't necessarily mean thinking outside the performance envelope of an aircraft. Thinking outside the performance envelope of an aircraft WILL definitely get a person killed.
Go ahead and join the army, become an officer pilot and work your ass off for 52 weeks (and a bit more) and get recommended into one. nobody's stopping you :)
I'm already a pilot. Besides, I tried to join more than a couple of times and heard every damn excuse why I'm not qualified to become a U.S. Military Aviator. Yet, my aptitude scores are very high and under U.S. D.O.T., F.A.A. laws and regulations I'm qualified as a pilot. Besides, I was already in the U.S. Army for a brief uneventful stint. They placed me in Military Intelligence; it was that or either Aviation mechanic.
As I understand it they were both designed for the same requirement and the Air Force rejected the Hornet for the Viper. There are many variations of both but I'd imagine they'd be very similar, except that the Hornet has the added power of the second engine and the better "alpha" for carrier ops. I don't think there's anyone on here that could legitimately answer that though.
From what little I've heard they seem to come out roughly even in knife fights. I think the jets themselves are both agile enough that it really only boils down to pilot skill.
The F-18 dosnt have extra power from the second engine althoug Id like to have an extra engine in case one goes out :P the true advantage of the F-18 is its AOA like you said. Keep it a slow kniofe fight and the F-16 pilot will have issues with avoiding stalls and have to stay slow to stay behind you.
F-16 is easily more agile and has more thrust than the F-18. That being said, there is more to a fighter than that and they would both have a good chance of winning with equally skilled pilots.
I don't know what you people are talking about, this video kicks ass! good footage, sweet music..If you don't like this vid, than just go watch something else not about planes..

The dogfight scenes are from the IMAX show called Operation: red flag( something around there) and was a fight between F-15's and F-15's. Not F-18's.
