Hey I was wondering what modificatoins you made to the PA head? I have the exact same Dukane PA head and I am working on modifying it. Rig sounds great!
That amp and cab sound amazing. I can't stand clones or relic bass guitars... I've seen too many fake bass guitars on ebay to bother with those. I would like to see you buy any bass...buy one from Walmart, do a vid and return it...I bet it would sound good also.
@LegoBricKing i think thats the point, a bass for a little less than a squier, but sounds a little better makes it a good deal imo. its all about the player not the bass, i bet i can get great sound out of one of these, sure i could get better sound out of a $1000 bass, but not worth the money, imo.
@fourfingerfunk hey, is yours the SX SJB-62 Short Scale Fretless 3TS, the one for $99 on rondo's site? I think I'm going to buy one, but haven't found many reviews on that particular model because I think its new. What are your opinions, and could you post a demo vid of it? Is it the same sound as the one in this video? thx
@jgk381 The body is a lot smaller than a standard jazz bass and as a result there is a tiny bit of neck dive. Also, because the body is smaller, the pickguard and control plate are bespoke sizes, and replacements will not be easy to find. The bridge and tuners are standard though. The neck has a lovely rich blonde varnish and plays surprisingly fast, the fingerboard polishes up nicely and when set right has no dead spots. I did need to do a shim on mine though to get the action lower.
@fourfingerfunk carried on from previous: The electronics are the weak point really, but while they're cheap they're not shabby and will certainly do the job. my bass came fitted with D'ddario chromes flatwounds and they're dull strings. I'm thinking that a set of half rounds would work better - the punch of around wound with the finish of flatwound - the best of both worlds to get a better tone and preserve the finger.
Hey man, I am about to change up my rig and I was wondering, instead of getting another Bass cab, If it would be ok if I just use a pa speaker with a 15 inch speaker. Im going to be using my Behringer 180 watt Bass head.
You could try it, though PA cabs really aren't designed for the bass guitar. They're either designed to be "full range", or (most likely) with a 15" PA cab, handle the mids. Most PA's have specific cabs for specific frequency ranges.
For bass, you'll want something that handles at least 40hz (or 30hz if you use a 5 string) through about 5khz or so.
How do you like the Lopo cab? Was thinking of getting a 1x15 from them to fit under my bf bassman. I think they make a larger cab that will fit the Fender better.
Just thought I'd update - I've been so happy with this 15 cab that I got from them a few years ago that I just ordered (and received) TWO new 1x12 bass cabs from them ! I loaded those up with Eminence 12LF speakers, and with my Aguilar head they sound PHENOMENAL.... big and fat, but they still have great definition. I'll try to do a video soon. The Lopo Line cabs are very affordable too.
Not true at all IMO. Sure, there are better pickups out there, but as the video demo shows, the stock ones sound pretty darn good. The bass in the demo is completely stock, even the cheap strings that come from the factory... and the tone is still good.
You can get them at Rondo Music. Google "Rondo Music" and it will pull up the site. I think these basses are now $99 + shipping, which is still an amazing bargain.
I find this to be a good demo. I guess this is a normal scale bass? Can you tell me anything about the sx short scale basses? I'm considering buying one of those. Can't find much info about them on the net though. And I haven't found anywhere to try them in here in Norway either.
Hi - yes, this is the regular long scale Jazz. I haven't tried the short scale yet, but I've since bought one of the SX Jaguar Basses and it has turned out to be an excellent bass as well, so I wouldn't hesitate in buying one of their short scale basses.
Nice bass. I bought the SX SJB-62 jazz bass about a week and half ago. I went a little more higher end ($139.99 LOL). It's sweet for the price. I'm modding it with shielding and a new Fender Jazz bass bridge. I also put on a fresh set of DR strings and she really rocks now. You can't go wrong with this ax.
I agree - these are a "no brainer". I leave for a month long tour in a couple weeks, and I'm taking my SX's because they sound great and if something happens to them, I'm not out a bunch of money like I would be with my vintage Fenders.
thanx for that bit of info. i need a new bass cuz my six string ESP was destroyed and i need something that can fill my normal tones. ive hear j basses can handle the metal styles quite well so im gonna go with the sx cuz i have n money for a new ESP or traben. thanx for the info
hello twangbanger13 would you say that this bass would sound good for metal and can it get a nice bright tone for pop slap type riffs because i play alot of music and need to be able to shift from tone to tane instantly. also do you think this bass would be good for recording(it sounds as good like a studio fender) or small venues
I would recommend it for anywhere you'd use a typical Jazz Bass. It is great for slap and pop riffs, just like most any Jazz Bass. As far as metal, it can certainly do it, but there may be some better choices out there. Still, if you're budget is tight, then this is a hard "all around" bass to beat.

I like the Lopo cab a lot. Works well with the Eminence for a nice "vintage" style tone.

so after this did you have to mod anything on it
and does it play good

@eyyitsjosephh
New strings. I use D'Addario Chromes. However, in the video EVERYTHING, including the strings, was stock.
I ended up giving the bass to someone so that they could start learning how to play. Gotta "pass the love on".... :)

Oddly, I had plenty of lighting - I think it's just the fact that I have a very cheap camera. Sorry. It looks just like a standard Jazz Bass though.
TWANGBANGER13 2 years ago
jazz basses are great for metal, but if you drop tune, you might want a bass with a 35 inch scale neck
drubicle 2 years ago
not really - there are lots of 5 string basses that are 34" scale (though I do prefer a 35")
