  • ''We demand rigidly defined areas of doubt and uncertainty!" (from HHGTTG)

Thats how the Modern Psychiatry and Big Pharma BIG SCAM works

  • where do i get ect done?

  • I had ECT in 2007.....because of severe depression/bipolar....I am currently off all medications and have been off of them for almost 2yrs. I'm back to college..working towards a degree in nursing. something I never thought possible while I was so sick. ECT saved my life!!! :)

    Good luck to you!!

  • Hope you are doing well still!

  • How do you feel now 4 years later?

  • Thnx

  • im amazed to see a person with such a hard mental illness being this bubbly, happy, hopeful and normal. it truly gives me hope for being able to live a good life with my own bipolar, although my situation feels so hopeless atm since im depressed and im so insecure about my own prognosis since im still young (21)

you are a very strong person and i wish you the best of luck. thank you so much. =)

  • Im glad I dont know you

  • Thank you, you are an inspiration.

  • I think I might need ect. I have deppresion and a psychotic illness, I'm on prozac and risperidone but both of these have caused me to gain weight. I would like to stop taking them but every time I've tried I've become unwell again. Your videos are very informative. Thanks Rachel.

  • i love you :P

  • Wow, that's really amazingly great for you. I am not schizophrenic, but I imagine it takes a strong person to try to determine what's real and what's not when it's so hard to tell the difference as is the problem with psychosis. Do us all a favor and tell the anti-psychiatry people they're full of shit. You tell them to go a year having to see monsters in their bedroom every night and then see if they still believe in what they're preaching. They'll listen to you, not me.

  • You are fabulous.

I would say you are brave... but that's the wrong term - because you have nothing to be ashamed of hide away from. You are just simply fabulous.

:) Good luck with everything chick xx

  • cool

  • mmm this woman is sexy LOL,but yo I was on prozac also......I am kinda crazy LOL no joke I was in the mental hospital for trying to kill my self 2 times sent there and now I am good but I feel very sad currently, I have been crying alot I'm thinking about doing ECT, electroconvulsive therapy but I am actually looking for something to change my whole personality like a monarch mind control system...

  • So is there an electrical imbalance in the brain that they are correcting by adding some electricity?

  • @winstono75 no they are using high current enough to kill you, to destroy valuable brain tissue, dumb us down, many forget years of life, can't read, can't do simple tasks, some many are amnesic, the industry says it "jump starts neruotransmitters," they lie, they shock mostly the old women who are often destroyed at thta age, ECT destroys young, old, now they are shocking dementia patients and "metnally retartded," who have no understanding, nor is it "informed consent."

  • @dfowler351976 I do of course totally agree with you. My joke is referring to the silly chemical imbalance theory. Keep up the fight.

  • If any of you out there are actually considering this... Well, you likely suffer from severe mental disorder, which is probably why you're here in the first place... Haven't you seen the movie One flew over the Cuckoos nest? Learn to live life without pills and killing your brain!

  • do have beautiful cleavage!

  • I have had 11 ECT treatments about 4 years ago, it has helped me a lot, the only negative thing that i have is minor memory loss, that dosnt bother me as i now wake up in the morning with a will to live. im now on effexor 300mg daily. and i have not neede any more follow up ECT treatments

  • I really am so happy for you. I have gone through a year of ECTs which seems to be an ourtagious amount I think. I had them starting 3 X a week for 4 months, then 2X a week for 7 more months before I made them stop them. I now have complete long term memory loss and some short term memory loss and cognitive loss all of which prevent me from ever working again. I can not remember my childhood, my wedding, birth of children

  • Sweetheart, I think it is wonderful that you are "happy" with the outcome of the ECT. I believe you may have quelled the schizo part of your brain dysfunction. However, you still present with exaggerated animation and manic behavior on the horizon of depression. And one other thing dear...just because you are paranoid does not mean that our fears are well placed. No matter where you are, no matter how you act, there is always 4 to 5 people that know you.

  • @stellarblue51 why don't you stop judging her, who the f are you? schizo? do you know how demeaning that its? She had ECT now she has to listen to a little old lady like you who probably is a psyche nurse, talk down to her, like you know what the hell you are talking about?

  • She talking so fast hiperactive mmmm no so good

  • i agree seem like a manic, talking fast, jumping subjects, no sleep, storys hard to follow

    Canadian Paramedic

  • u seem alil manic in this vid. im just sayin... im bipolar and im becoming schizophrenic

  • u gots some nice bboobies

  • Great video, thanks for sharing.

  • Very. Nice. Tits.

  • The response rate to ECT is high, but relase is also high.

  • ECT is to kill you.

  • @newworldorderpsychia ... She doesn't look dead to me. Don't open your mouth about things you have no knowledge of. She even says she is doing "absolutely wonderful". ECT has some side effects, but it saves lives. It is generally a last resort treatment for people who have no hope otherwise.

  • @macdisciple ECT = severe brain damage google Harold Sackeim 2007 study better yet just wikipedia ECT and read controversy section, or google patient stories, it killed my brain...and everyone STOP picking her behavior apart like NAZI's what are you all qualified psychiatrists, if there was such a thing!

  • youtube.com/watch?v=rtJ9m4uaSjc

  • Have you lose nay memory?

  • It's great to see some positive stuff about ECT on youtube. I underwent ECT a few years ago and again last year, and it saved my life, I posted a comment supporting ECT on another ECT video and got a lot of shit for it, people just don't seem to understand ECT so thanks for posting something supportive of ECT.

  • @nutmeg169 no YOU don't understand ECT read reasearch, this country people act first and forget to see through lies, pseudo science, etc. ECT is brain damaging in all forms studies show it time again, I had ECT so I am in your boat, for so many it impairs their memory and other valuable cogntive skills, it killed me, and actually does KILL many more than they admit too, if I could link I'd show you so many sites, showing this, but stupid youtube does not alllow it.

  • @dfowler351976 Ok dfowler, when I posted that comment I did not state that ECT was entirely positive, I do think there are a lot of positive aspects to ECT, yes there are negative aspects to it as well but there are always going to be negative and positive aspects to any treatment method. Medications have a lot of negative effects and kill lots of people too yet they can be life saving. When I said people don't seem to understand ECT I was referring to how people view it as archaic and brutal --

  • @dfowler351976 (part 2) and completely negative when that is not in my opinion the case. I am sorry that it had bad side effects for you but for me it saved my life twice, I had slight memory issues for a while but they improved with time and now have completely gone. What people have to remember is that no treatment is without risks, and sometime the potential positives outweigh the risk. Also I don't know what country you are in but in NZ it was not their first act, I spent 2 1/2 years in --

  • @dfowler351976 (part 3) hospital and even more time in therapy along with countless medications and had to see 2 psychiatrists other than my regular psychiatrist before it was decided that I would have ECT if I consented, which I did and I am glad I did because if I hadn't have had ECT I would quite possibly be dead. If you think ECT is so bad maybe you should look into some psychiatric medications some of those are a lot more potentially damaging/dangerous.

  • Sounds more like manic depression to me Rachel...

You should seek a second opinion...

Psychiatrists are notorious for getting diagnosis's wrong

  • She keeps repeating herself, how long ago was her last?

  • It's good you got some fast relief from your ect. The only thing that seems odd, and contradictory, is you stated you are in-fact schizophrenic, but you are on an anti-depressant and you will be on a stimulant soon, and are NOT on anything else... umm, your diagnosis either got changed to not-schizophrenic, or your doctor should have his license taken away, both those meds (especially in combination) are contraindicated for people with schizophrenia. Be careful. I hope things turn out for you.

  • oh yeah, baby. you definitely are female

  • So many ECT patients seem to be depressed girls. I am a firm believer some hard S&M style sex would fix 99% of those dark days. Go check out some local swinger or s&m club, I'm pretty sure you'll find a free cure right there, and one that's much more organic than electricity to the temporal lobes. there is zero medical explaination for ECT, so my theory is just as good as any doctors. it's simply a shock treatment, if I was to slap you and monkey sexualise you, it'd do the same thing

  • @lexichronicle even if there is zero medical explanation for ECT it works for so many people, I've had it and it saved my life

  • @lexichronicle kind of crude, obnoxious, you sound like a horny guy, or girl, but what you say on ECT is true. I know for sure.

  • can you explain what you mean by "seeing things move" when you hallucinate at 4:54? is hallucinating when you see things that are NOT there or does it also include seeing still things move too?

  • @kp018boy it can also include seeing things that aren't happening, like still things moving

  • ive been on nearly every medication, wellbutrin has worked the best for me because seroxat was a living nightmare i still get paraniod tho

i asked for ECT but its hard to get in the uk but

im doing quite good now, great to see a success story. and bravo for posting people need to see this stuff :)

  • Hi Rachel. I'm a 39 year old who is currently receiving ECT treatment. I have had 5 so far and am scheduled for 3 more this week. The way you describe the depression is right on the button. ECT has saved my life and recommend it to all who have no other options. You don't even know you had it done and it only takes minutes and is completely painless and is not barbaric or torturous in any way. This procedure is covered by Medicare and is an effective treatment. THANK GOD!!!

  • YOU seem very well and I am delighted to see that, my advice to you and to others considering ECT is to consider pyschotherapy and get to the root of your problems rather than blasting them to the heavens.

Therefore I dont agree with ECT myself however I do not wish to sound boorish and applaud you on your recovery.

I am just showing another side to the story.

Here's to your continued health and happiness

  • So thats their medical 'explanation'. ECT is not understood. It received tremendous bad press as it was abused and used as a punishment for 'non-conforming' or 'awkward' patients in mental hospitals.

Incredibly it was also used as an intended "cure" for homosexuality!

The truth is it doesnt cure anything.

Pyschosis ebbs and troughs and many patients make vast improvements without and Despite ECT. The way to treat mental disorders is pyschotherapy and not by drastic means! That said..

  • Firstly congrats on feeling better and your courage in sharing your story.

Without knowing your history I would like to comment on ECT (shock therapy).

PLEASE bear in mind that my comments are aimed at ECT and NOT you!! YOU as a person seem like a brave, intelligent, attractive young lady and I salute you.

The essence of ECT is not fully understood. One MEDICAL manual describes " we dont know how it works, its a bit like banging a television when its not working and the picture coming back"!

  • @teee2 we DO know how it works, "closed head diffuse brain damage from high voltage 450 volts and 9 ampiers of current, (enough to stop a heart) applied to the skull directly, over enough times you WILL lose your brain, some become demented, source: much research, I'm sorry for my bluntness, and not saying this young lady will become like that, but some do, just DON"T get ECT anymore!!!!

  • @dfowler351976 Hi..I agree with you.I am 100% opposed to ECT.

My point was that I didnt want to dismiss the views of the lady who made this video and I'm happy for her she feels well.

Personally my view is that ECT is a crude, dangerous procedure that produces awful after effects that are hidden by a huge amount of the medical profession.

Its understood now that our brains are formed by our thoughts and that long term negative thinking causes chemical changes.Pyschotherapy not electrotherapy

  • Yep you can compare it to another video about a year later

  • @mrfadedjeans i dun understand?

  • Well good for you! I'm thinking of undergoing ECT. Your story is so inspiring!

  • Check out my other vis on it

  • @rachelstarlive Rachel pm me if you want the truth on the dangers that you and I went through...the fact that you struggle reading, and doing math, is typical of ECT "side effects" they do not tell of the shear current applied, its worse today than in the past this is a fact, that they do not tell, they shock demntia patients and the metnally retarded who cannot decide for themselves, my former ECT doc admitted this to me, I have studied all of this for over a year..its barbaric.

  • @luckyme153 don't you lose so much memory, cognitive abilities, some become demented later in life, I've studied the horror of ECT, this is no fringe, cult agenda, it's my research, and talking, reading patient stories devasteted. if you want info read controversy surrounding ect on wikipedia, or google patient ECT stories, or I can give you tons of studies showing ECT always causes brain damage in all forms. its worse today on the brain than in the past, but they lie...

  • Amazing! I'm glad to see you're better. There is a difference in you seen this video, you seem more alive.

  • Electroshock and cleavage. I enjoyed it all.

  • @dossmanos8 your a very sick person

  • @dossmanos8 and monsters!

  • how did you get this?? I really need this so bad but i have no health insurance....

  • After begging my doc for a year. See my other video "Watch if you forget". My insurance did cover it all.

  • @myusernamerocks3 go to your local Mental Health Center and see a psychiatrist. They should have an insurance plan called Mental Health Service Plan that will pay for everything.

  • GOOD JOB!! THANK YOU SO MUCH FOR POSTING YOUR VIDEO JOURNAL FOR US!! You have a LOT of COURAGE to do this. I take care of a lady one weekend a month with schizophrenia. I wish her husband would not enable her by getting her alcohol. I pray you reach your goals that you have set. AGAIN I THANK YOU FOR POSTING & I BET YOU INSPIRE MANY WHO SUFFER SERIOUS MENTAL ILLNESS (SMI). There are FEW people in this world who after looking at the DSM IV TR would consider themselves "100% SANE"! GOOD LUCK!

  • So good to hear you had a positive reaction for ECT!

  • Did you have to take your shoes off for the ECT? I saw a show on TV one time showing a woman having ECT and she had to take her shoes off. Why does the patiest have to take their shoes off for?

  • Watch one of the videos and you will see how ECT is done from the begining to the end. I had to work in ECT one week and it was not nearly as scarey as it sounds. You have to take shoes and loose jewelery off because since the ECT is designed to induce a seizure, you do not want anything to obstruct the patient such as jewelery a patient can get caught up in or shoes that a patient could kick off or kick their opposite leg (or an attendant).

  • Thanks for sharing your experiences.

  • This video makes me happy! LOL! xD

It's so good to see that you're doing better. I do experience a lot of what you do (not nearly as bad, though, I don't think), and I'm very pessimistic about it, so to see you all excited like this...it's just awesome. And this is probably totally creepy considering you have no idea who I am.

    But it's great. xD

    Hoping the best for you!

  • I'm so happy for you, and glad that you are doing well. :)

    <3

  • I don't know you at all, yet I feel like I want to give you a HUGE hug.

You've been through a lot, that much is apparent - and in spite of this, you seem to be doing so well and are even enjoying your life.

    *hugs*

    Blessings to you :)

  • no past no future only the present...that's what ECT does to you

  • animals have more rights than psychiatric patients

  • Thank you for your video its so nice to see someone on hear that isn't bad mouthing ECT. I have had 18 treatments for severe depression and post traumatic stress, like u did suffer some brain damage but nothing that was so bad I would not have done it again in a heart beat. I hope things are still going will for you. I am not saying that the decision should be made lightly and that it is right for everyone but it does work for lots of people.

  • I am sorry you had insurance problems. I am loosing mine in the next few weeks.

Just hold on... it has taken me awhile to really get better from the ECT. It's been 8 months since them and I am off all my depression meds now.

Times are still hard (especially with this horrible economy and my inability to hold a normal job) but mentally wise I have been feeling really good. It also helps that I got a little doggie to brighten my spirits.

  • Do you mean actual brain damage or memory loss? The APA and NICE contend that it definitely does not cause brain damage, and given how litigious the US is; they wouldn't take that position unless they were absolutely certain. Did you have unilateral or bilateral? I had unilateral for very severe depression, 10 courses total. (5 in '93 and 5 in '04). Within 5 days, all confusion, short term memory loss was gone. Went back to college within 3 weeks. My experience, but it saved my life.

  • I do need to qualify that with my experience, because yes some people do have memory loss and in some cases it can be permament. (Which method they use can be a factor). I've got to say that it fawking irritates me when people (probably after watching Requiem for A Dream or a certain Jack Nicholson movie) become faux experts on the subject and contend that it turns people into night of the living dead. The ignorance is astounding. No people, it's not the 50s. You aren't awake for the procedure.

  • I think you're an incredibly special person, both for the way in which you deal with your illness, and for your strength in being able to share your experiences. I love your expressiveness and your sense of humour! Huge hugs from London, England!

  • Hey, you're only on Prozac? That's fantastic! You look so lively now. Obviously the ECT treatments have helped you. Yes, you paid a price in side affects, but just being off of the anti-psychotic meds is incredible. You are a true inspiration!

  • How are your other cognitive abilities besides memory doing? kuz I'm thinking about getting it,and I don't really care about the memory part, but I don't want to have like difficulty understanding, processing information or having a low attention span and things like that.

  • I had a lot of problems with reading, confusion, not being able to tell left from right and some other problems for months after the ECT. But most of that seemed to clear up in the last few weeks. I have been doing great the last 3 weeks. Still have some problem with depression and I am on Prozac for that.

  • btw i'm so inspired by you and it makes me happy to see someone else going through the same things as I am and not let it ruin ur life. Btw one more question, how has ur social life changed if at all after ect? Are you feeling like you are more out there and stuff? because right now I have trouble feeling comfortable around others and talking with them, and I'm hoping maybe if I get ECT it will help with that?

  • That is a very good question. For starters I have always had a problem fitting in and connecting with people. As you will notice I am usually the only one in most of my videos. Still have not been connecting but I do feel more outgoing since the ECT because much of the deep depression has lifted.

  • Thanks for your video.

I am diagnosed manic depressive, post traumatic with severe flash backs and not knowing if flashback is current, or an old episode.

Anyhow, just had pre- ECT tests, Cat Scan, blood, x-ray etc.

The plan is to start ECT next week.

Having some real issues as to what it will do-not do, help-not help.

My wife is very worried what our lives will be.

She does not understand what I feel.

Tried ramming a semi with her in car

    ECT-suicide are my choices.

    It has to help.

  • Its been about 6 months since my ECT treatments. I got better then HORRIBLE and now I am doing quite well. I was having significant cognitive problems up until a few weeks ago but it looks like they have subsided. ECT worked great on me. I only wish I could have had it sooner.

  • Well, I am to be at the hospital at 4:30 am, November 26,2008,to start my treatments.

    Keep me in your thoughts.

I will try to update as I can, if I can.

Thank you for posting your videos, they have helped more than you could ever know.

  • Best of luck to you, take things easy.

  • I feel like your a friend, and wanted to update with you. I hope you are really progressing well. I have had my treatments, ending just before Christmas. Doctor wanted to do more, but insurance ran out. I am very sad and hurting. ECT was a last ditch effort and now my time has come to rest in peace.

Keep posting as you can help other people, it is a gift you have.

Some advice from an old man, enjoy-enjoy-enjoy every minute and do not waste any time. There are no do overs

  • Well, I have had 2 treatments so far. Both inpatient, but I am home now. Really do not feel or notice any change. Side effects, terrible headache first time. Muscle cramps in jaw/throat and lower legs. Legs are so cramped it's hard to walk, but I think a hot soaking bath will help that. Monday I'm scheduled for 3 times a week for 2 weeks as

outpatient this time. So far So good.

  • whoa Rachel I remember u I used to watch u back when u had that bed of nails, wow how are u doing?..im so glad i found u again. Im going to watch all your videos, btw why are ayou depressed, u ususally seemed fun and excitiing, well, I'll be sure to pray for you and i hope u can get over all of this crazy shit happening to you

    -Zelix Leo

  • Yep yep, same rachel. :P

  • Rachel, if there is someone that I would vote for the best figure on youtube, I would vote for you. I think you definitively help the world understand this disorder and also help the family that lives with this disorder.

  • Awe, thanks. :)

  • How long did it take before the "memory" issues surrounding the ect cleared up? I've just fininshed treatment #5. I'm really having some issues with my memory surrounding the last two week, and I'm hoping they clear up when I stop the treatments. How many treatments did you have?

  • I had 6 over two weeks. I remember nothing of those two weeks and the months around the treatments. It has been almost 6 months and I still have problems with my memory.

  • How long after stopping your treatments did it take you to feel "normal" again? Also, did you get worse before you got better?

  • Um... I'm not 100% sure what "normal" is since I haven't been normal in quite awhile. I have up and down days and new struggles to deal with.

  • Rachel, It's great you have so much insight into everything! I'm a med student rotating through inpatient psychiatry and most of my patients have no insight into their condition. I'm glad the ECT worked for you and you can keep off the neuroleptics!

  • Well I've come along way. :)

  • YAY you...

I'm so happy ECT is working for you. I was really worry about you and your insomnia. You said something about it at the end of your "Diaries of an Insomniac" video some time ago... something about "being scare of not falling a sleep" and it got stocked in my mind ever since...

you are GREAT! I LOVE your videos... specially the ones of you doing stunts with your dad.. lol

    -xavier-

  • Yesssss, it is so great to be able to sleep now with out heavy meds. Now I just take like one Tylenol PM or something like it and I'm out. And even sometimes I am able to take naps! Feels so good.

And i like the stunts with my dad too. He's great. :)

  • You posted the video is a few weeks old. Are you still doing "wonderful"? Or, what problems are you having?

  • Well yes and no. As far as the schizo and depression I am doing freaking awesome. Unfortunately, the ECT did cause brain damage, so now i am dealing with that. Everyday is something new.

  • I just got back from Dr., signed up for it. Then I read "brain damage". Whats going on? How bad is it? Is it still worth it?

    Thanks

  • For ME, yes it was worth it. I had gotten so far gone with the schizo, depression, and insomnia I was just desperate. I really feel like the ECT has given me another chance. I am dealing with new stuff now but it is still good for me.

  • Thanks for doing the videos. How are the memory issues now? I'm on my way to meet with the Dr. about starting the procedures. How much do you remember during the procedures, specifically the "day after", in between the treatments. Thanks again.

  • During the treatments I had a very hard time. I remember nothing of those two weeks. And most of this past year is gone.

  • All she needs is some dick.

  • Rachel it's fantastic how this sounds to have helped you. I can't imagine how much more normal your life is now, and I think it's well deserved.

    Rick

  • It's great you are doing better, I'm glad the ECT worked for you. If you have to have it done again do you plan on making a video of the treatment?

  • Nice one! Sounds like you've got through a lot in a short time. Many people think all mental illness is caused by a vitimin deficiency. They say B3 or B6 in large doses dramatically improve recovery. You may want to look into it. I'm allergic to Niacin so that could partly explain my cannibis induced psychosis that I had years ago, past depressive eps, and current OCD. I find avoiding stimulants like caffeine and artificial sugars really helps...

  • Thanks for the info. I have been taking vitamins for quite awhile.

  • Congrats Rachel!

    I'm so happy for you!

  • As a parent of a daughter with schizophrenia I want to know how happy I am for you and how much I appreciate you for informing others about your disease. You are a hero to those of us who understand your struggles and give others hope for recovery.

  • WOW you look amazing!

I love your videos - they have helped me alot [I'm a 19yr female manic depressive].

Glad to see you are doing so well =]

    Love you and keep well!

    xxx

  • Thanks, I'm still having problems. This video is actually a few weeks old...

  • Well I hope you keep getting better and not going back!

I'm still stuck taking Seroquel,Lithium and Mirtazapine which I wish I wasn't as I've gained a shed load of weight!

So I'm happy your off most of your meds I know how great that must be.

    x

  • I'm glad to hear you're doing much better, but I have to confess that I piggishly stared at your breasts throughout the entire video.

    Yes, you're hot.

  • hahahahaha, well I shot from that angle for a reason. :P

  • Glad to see your doing ok. Hang in there! Great Video!

  • You know Rachel, I'm really happy that things have been on the mend since then. You sound so much different and happier on camera it's amazing. BTW, you look fantastic. YAAAY! All the best Rachel. <3

  • Thanks, buddy. :)
