YES fleet Street is real! Sweeney Todd really existed. though through history his story has changed and rumored and made into a musical with made up characters. but there is historical papers and newspapers about the demon barber of fleet street, and a really made pies out of them as to dispose of their bodies. He was arrested and hung. He was a famous murderer in the 18th century. you can do research and there was a Sweeney Todd and a woman who made them into meat pies.
one of my friends sister works at a pub on fleet street and down below is haunted and one night she had to stay at the pub because of the snow and she heard scratching down in tunnel thing =P
i was watching the movie the other day with my friend and he said sweeny todd was the greatest demented killer the world has ever known but then i started this thing about who's more demented Jack the ripper or Sweeny todd. now youtuber you decide.
@animerulez262 i would have to say Sweeney, the kill count was more i believe and the fact that he and the women ground their victims into food puts him a step above jack but they are just as bad as each other...good argument though.
Of course Fleet St is real. There was never any mystery about that because its famous for other things too such as the printing press. The Sweeney Todd case however is debatable. Historian Peter Haining spent 25 years reaearching it and is convinced Todd was real (Google; Sweeney Todd, Fact or Fiction?)- however there is no reference in the Newgate Calender to his execution. Its intriguing.
BBC says that Sweeney Todd WAS a real person, but didn't have any love-reasons or something, but wanted MONEY and killed people for it. AND ALSO gave Mrs. Lovett the flesh for meat pies. So it's written. And I believe it. And I like it. Prooves how surreal reality is. Nobody would ever have thought that Sweeney was real. Thar ye are.
there is no real evidence of a sweeney todd or his original alias.. no prison records no death records... nothing... I visited 186 at fleet street... its a fucked up place... the supposed real sweeney was originally discovered cos he we dump bodies in the catacoumbs next door as of the smell but people noticed fresh bodies and became overwhelmed... is he real? maybe? I would like to think a guy hacked up 150 people and put them into pies... but thats just me x
that sweeny and todd pie shop is actualy in reading ive been in there before but for some reason a pie shop being called sweeny and todds kinda puts you off wanting pie
Okay Sweeney opend a shop at the adress (thought of) as 186 fleet street estimated 1785..caught 1801..he was hung and then dissected Mrs Lovett is meant to have taken piosen. I beleive they were real people and he was a murderer they found some good evidence in the vaults beneath 186 and st. Dunstans leading to Bell Yard. Hehe yeah fleet street is real..(the story of the chair? hes thought to only of killed a few this way one a Mr Thornhill, the last victim)
Yeah, the guy from Cities of the Underworld on the History channel went into the basement that was thought to be where Todd finished off his victims and then dragged the bodies through a tunnel leading into Mrs. Lovett's shop to be turned into pies. It was awesome. They should make a documentary solely focused on Sweeney Todd.
Apparently there was a sketch drawing in the 1800s of Mrs. Lovett's Meat Pie shop in an old London newspaper. I thought that was weird. Sweeney was supposedly real as well. He was hung and then chopped into pieces. He wasn't killed by a teen.
There's also a Fleet Street in Montreal :P
